View Full Version : Yu-Gi-Oh PbP: Blue Ghost vs. Shadow Elf

Blue Ghost
2010-02-27, 12:53 PM
Dr. Facilier lurks in the shadowy alleys of New Orleans, searching for good souls to offer to his friends on the other side. He shuffles his deck of possessed dueling cards restlessly, scanning the streets for potential victims.

A woman, late-middle aged with some gray hair, walks into the alley, whistling a tune. I was jus' on my way to mah boat, chere. Can I help ya? Y'all're lookin' lost.

Blue Ghost
2010-02-27, 04:44 PM
Dr. Facilier flashes a cordial smile at the lady.
Lost, ma'am? Why, this is my home. You are the one who is lost. Why, yes. I see in your eyes hope and longing for a better life. Come into my parlor and sit down with me, won't you? I can make your dreams come true.

Shadow_Elf

She whistles loudly, and a chugga-chugga noise can be heard approaching from the distance. Chere, I'm pretty darned happy with the life I've got here. And to be frank, after that creepy introduction, I dont trust ya' any further an' I can throw ya. Her boat arrives behind her, and she mounts on top. Those duel cards? You better hope they are, since things are about to get dicier than lobster in a gumbo for you, chere.

Don't you talk to me like that! I thought you weren't interested, but since you insist on a duel, I will let my friends on the other side show you your future. Just remember: You're in my world now, not your world!

One of the cards draws itself into Facilier's hand.

I lay two cards face-down, one behind the other. Reveal them on your own time, and let's see what fate has in store for you.

I Flip Summon Djinn Releaser of Rituals (http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Djinn_Releaser_of_Rituals) and attack Dupe Frog.
A genie statue appears on the field and extends its shadow, which engulfs Dupe Frog and sends it to the netherworld.
Your turn again, ma'am.

In response to your Djinn, I activate Froggy Forcefield, which destroys it. Dupe Frog croaks, and the sonar wave becomes a physical shield of energy, rebounding the Djinn's attack back at itself. Anything else before I go?

You ain't gonna see what's coming your way until its too late, chere.

[roll0]

Mary's eyes glaze over a bit. Initiating OTK Sequence she says robotically, none of her signature accent evident. Summon Substitoad. Substitoad croaks, turning Dupe Frog into another Dupe Frog, adding Swap Frog from Deck to Hand. Discarding Star Boy to Special Summon Swap Frog, sending TADPOLE to the graveyard. Swap Frog croaked into another Swap Frog, sending TADPOLE to graveyard. Dupe Frog exchanged for Treeborn Frog, adding Swap Frog to hand. Substitoad replaces Treeborn Frog with Swap Frog. New Swap Frog replaces Substitoad with Des Frog, which summons two additional Des Frogs. Des Croaking activate, clearing your facedown. Direct attacks. She resumes her normal voice and composure. That's not quite an OTK, but y'all have got just 300 life points left, and I've got five monsters, chere.

((Woo! If only I'd had Solidarity, that would've been a true OTK.))

You force my hand here. I send out Battle Fader (http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Battle_Fader) so none of your attacks go through.
Facilier's shadow jumps onto the field, absorbing all the frogs' attacks.

Hon, you ain't seen nothin' yet. In my Standby Phase, my Treeborn Frog Special Summons itself from my graveyard.

[roll0]

Here we go again! I play Pot of Avarice, returning two Des Frogs, two Dupe Frogs and Star Boy to my Deck. I then draw two cards ((turn will continue in this post after draws))

I summon Substitoad. Here we go again! Her eyes glaze over once more. Initiating OTK Sequence. Substitoad croaks Treeborn Frog into Dupe Frog, then Dupe Frog into another Dupe Frog, adding Des Frog to the hand. Swap Frog Swaps Substitoad for Des Frog in hand. Dupe Frog destroys monster. Des Frog, Des Frog, Swap Frog, Swap Frog, all attack directly. Discarding T.A.D.P.O.L.E. for cost of Super Polymerization. Dupe Frog, Des Frog, Des Frog... combine to form D.3.S. Frog. D.3.S. Frog attack directly for game. Any objections? The frogs do their little croaking exchanges and when the noise ends, a scholarly-looking frog destroys the man's shadow. Four other frogs then give him a serious licking, and the scholarly one and the two generic ones combine into a massive frog, which bellows at him so hard that he is flung out of the alley into the streets, his cards scattered amongst the puddles and crushed beneath the wheels of cars.

(Just realized that Dupe Frog is an optional effect, and as such, cannot activate when it is tributed for Substitoad, as it misses the timing. How does that change your move?)

Shadow_Elf

(Just realized that Dupe Frog is an optional effect, and as such, cannot activate when it is tributed for Substitoad, as it misses the timing. How does that change your move?)

((I don't understand. It is sent from the field to the Graveyard - why does that not fulfill the requirements of its effect? It is possible that my move still works without abusing Dupe Frog, but it'll need to be more creative, to say the least. Can you explain why it being optional means it does not activate?

Regardless of the explanation, I can achieve the same result this way:
1. Summon Substitoad
2. Swap Frog croaked into Des Frog.
3. Swap Frog Swaps Des Frog for Swap Frog in hand
4. New Swap Frog swaps back for Des Frog, which Special Summons two more Des Frogs because of the TADPOLES.
5. Destroy your monster with Substitoad
6. Attack directly for 6700 damage.
7. Discard Star Boy to Super Polymerize into D.3.S. Frog, ending the game.
In order to do this, I do not special summon Treeborn Frog in my Main Phase, I guess? I could probably, with a little more though, do this a safer way, but I have work to do so this'll have to do.

Is this acceptable?))

Blue Ghost
2010-03-01, 07:17 PM
((Check the ruling on Missing the Timing (http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Miss_the_timing). For an optional effect to activate, the trigger must be the last thing that happened. If anything happened after the trigger (such as the summoning of a monster by Substitoad), you miss the timing and cannot choose to activate the effect. Note that this does not apply to mandatory effects. Yes, Yu-Gi-Oh is confusing like that. And the second solution is legal as far as I can see.))

I activate Book of Moon (http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Book_of_Moon) when you summon the big frog, sending it back into the shadows for this turn. At least I survive for now.

Shadow_Elf
2010-03-01, 08:16 PM
You're only delaying the inevitable, hon. Good luck coming back from 500 life points to win this, when I have a 3000 attack destroyer on my field. Your move - pick it quickly, so I can get back to my duties, will ya?

Blue Ghost
2010-03-01, 08:28 PM
Dr. Facilier scowls at the host of frogs. Curse you and your frogs, lady.

[roll0]

You've won this time, but we will meet again. And next time, you won't be so lucky. My friends on the other side will be waiting for you. The witch doctor scoops up his cards and vanishes into the shadows.

((Good game. Perhaps if I'd caught the Dupe Frog thing the first time around, I could have had more of a chance. But I doubt it. You think I should take out Demise and cut the Deck down to two different Rituals, instead of three? ))

Shadow_Elf
2010-03-01, 08:46 PM
((Contract with the Abyss makes it very hard to get the Ritual Monsters out, IMHO. I would cut Demise, and run Garlandolf and Relinquished together with their own rituals - it will take up more of the spell/trap slots in your deck, but I think it will make them easier to summon. I'll be in a better position to give advice after I have seen what Jaffar and his Ritual Djinns are capable of.))
