One of the coolest things about OOTS it's that you don't necessary have to know about D&D to understand. Of course, it makes understanding better but even withouth the knowledge you still learn, interact and event understand the way D&D works.

I think this comic should be treated as much more than just simple entertainment...it should be used as a new way to expand D&D to audience that might never felt interested in any other way.

Anyway, I'm surprised the comic haven't been translated.

There were translations in the far, far past. In fact, I discovered OOTS in it's german incarnation via the link on a Neverwinter Nights site. When it never seemed to update my impatience finally defeated my lazyness and I tried the original version. Glad I did.

Actually, I think their tendency to end up being abandoned was part of the reason why The Giant stopped giving permission to translation projects. (In the Order of the Stick subforum there are still translations of the comic going on for our own amusement here.)

And yes, while I had basic D&D knowledge, I agree that Rich makes it greatly accessible.

The main problem with translating OotS is that it's hard (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/LostInTranslation) to get quality translations, especially for comedy. That and potential copyright issues are the main reasons I've heard from the higher ups as to why it isn't being officially translated right now.

As soon as you have to do that you're breaking the flow of the strip. If you could find a similar pun in the appropriate language then you'd be golden.

Admittedly, that strip is a situation where even native English speakers can miss the joke--in the UK, "junk" is not generally used as slang for the male member.
