So what do you think the "classic" 1-20th level DnD Campaign is? In other words, which premade modules create the quintessential campaign when strung together?

I would think it would include the Undermountain, Spires of Ravenloft, Expedition to the Demonweb Pits and Tomb of Horror, what else should be included?

Definetly NOT tomb of horrors.

There's nothing quintessential about it.

Sure there is! It's got the whole "Help, my DM is trying to kill me!" vibe going stronger than anything else. :smalltongue:

I'm sorry, but Gygaxian != quintessential in 3.5E. AD&D 2E or prior, maybe, but not anymore.

But... my post was tongue-in-cheek. :smallfrown:

Now to contribute: I'm told Red Hand of Doom is an excellent module, and feels classically D&D. Sadly, I've never had the pleasure of playing it myself (or finding it anyway, dangit), but I've heard it's excellent.

Its a good one. Although we learned that, no matter how buffed your super fluffy abjurer is, hobgoblin archers can randomly just 20-20-20 your head off when we ran it. :(

But flavour-wise its pretty fantastic, and the way they handle some of the encounters makes it less "go over there and kill guys" than it could have been.

I've heard a lot of people have done Sunless Citadel, so I think that should be in there.

Age of Worms.

Seconded. This is my far my favorite published module. Whatever you may think or say about Paizo, AoW is truly an excelent campaign arc, starting small, building up to something big, & giving a truly epic payoff at the end.

RHOD's really good, but it's not a 1-20 campaign. It's only 7 levels long at most.

It would include Bastion of the Broken Souls. Best high-level (17+, though the module is 18+) campaign module ever written IMHO.

And honestly, Tomb of Horrors belongs. There should be at least one dungeon crawl from hell coupled with the plans of an ancient Demi-Lich in every campaign.

Age of Worms.

Does this involve the worm that walks?

Speaking of that, yes, one of the Elder Evils would make a nice capstone.

I'd second Red Hand of Doom. If you were trying to go 1-20, RHoD would make a fine 'sweet spot,' going from about level 5 to level 10-12ish.

I found it on Ebay for $4.
