Except that Minotaur's are specifically listed as being immune to the maze spell and never have any problems inside a maze of any sort. Using a maze against a minotaur is like trying to use a wall of force to stop a great wyrm force dragon.

Minotaurs aren't afraid of mazes, minotaurs dwell in mazes. It is one of their special powers not to get lost in them, no matter how convoluted.

Considering Minotaurs are basically bipedal cows, ask yourself: What would a cow be afraid of?

If female, she could be an udder failure...

... sorry...

Seriously, of course a Minotaur can be afraid of mazes. It's your setting! Other possible motifs with connotations could include the following classic phobias:

Spiders
Darkness
Heights
Enclosed spaces

or, going for an elephant angle:

Mice

Easily built into an encounter could also be:

Bridges
Fire

Good luck!

And if that fails, bring said minotaur to the closest burger king or mcdonalds establishment. He will know the true meaning of fear and he will cry to Baphomet to save him. Just pray that Baphomet doesn't hear him, or else you are in for an ass-kicking.

[Gurgling with ripped throat] Inverting the maze affinity, you could also use fear of open spaces.
On the cow angle, fear of thunder and lightning strikes me ... [and he does it AGAIN!]

You know how hard it is to steer clear of puns in threads like these? Sometimes you just have to take the bull by the horns.

And milk it for all its worth.

I'd say something small and insignificant would be the funniest (like a mouse). For a more serious fear, I'd list something like fire...its a classic.

Mmm...flame broiled.

Wolves or hunting dogs, I'd say.

Call it a leftover from his bovine ancestors. It'd also be more useful for PCs to exploit, IMO, and would make for an awesome scene as they used the dogs to flush him from cover and drive him out to be ridden down ...

Thinking seriously, a minatour is a big powerful monster that hits things hard, and should be most afraid of things that can't be hit: incorporeal monsters and diminutive swarms. If they can eat him (alive, one little nibble at a time) bonus scariness. Check out the Hellwasp Swarm (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/swarm#hellwaspSwarm), which should scare almost anyone.

He does, eh? Can we get some confirmation from Optimisytik on this, because I've been told he's going to rip my throat out, but I've been waiting for 24 hours at this point.

Can't seem to get the superdog reliablitity these days.

I'm going to second the superstitious fear of incorporeal nasties, myself. It feels right. Though man eating caterpiller swarms work too.

Branding rods should scare the living daylights out of him. As should people dressed as cowboys.
