The air surrounding you fairly hums with the residue of magic, an aftereffect of the spell that brought you to this place. A quick glance reveals that you are in a small room, devoid of any life save for yourself. The sound of dripping water can be heard faintly, and the stone walls are slick with moisture. In complete defiance of logic, a torch is already lit, resting in a sconce near the room's single door.

There is a door at C-4, south side.

Kane looks around the room carefully. Can he tell where the sound of the dripping water is coming from (Listen: [roll0])? What is the furnishing in the room like, aside from the torch?

Assuming that there is nothing of immeadiate interest in the room, he moves softly to the door (Move silently [roll1]) and listens (Listen: [roll2]).

OOC: Where do you prefer I put my rolls for things (as I did here, below the actions, spoilered)?

term1nally s1ck
2010-03-09, 05:24 PM
There are no furnishings. Just a torch.

I don't mind where the rolls go, as long as I'm not negotiating half a dozen spoilers to get to them.

You hear nothing at the door.

Savannah
2010-03-09, 07:22 PM
Kane wraps part of the loose fabric of his outfit around his hand, then cautiously opens the door a few inches. He pauses, listening for a reaction from outside (Listen: [roll0]).

If he hears nothing, he will peak out (Spot: [roll1]).

For future reference, Kane can share spells with Golem and magic fang affects monk's unarmed attacks, but can he use it to affect both his fists and her bite, or would it have to be the same attack on both of them?

EDIT: Kane also briefly checks the torch: is it a normal torch and is it mounted in a way that he could pick it up?

term1nally s1ck
2010-03-10, 04:46 AM
I'm gonna say it can work for both (especially since a monk can use anything...say teeth...as an unarmed strike)

It's a normal torch, it can be removed.

The hallway outside is pitch black.

Savannah
2010-03-10, 11:03 AM
Kane picks up the torch, quietly tells Golem to heel, and walks softly to the door. He pushes it open enough to see down both sides of the hallway. (Spot [roll0] if necessary.)

term1nally s1ck
2010-03-11, 05:56 AM
To the south, you see that the corridor ends in a T-junction east/west after 30'. Adter 20', it splits east.

To the east, the corridorgoes further than you can see, but there's a split north/south after 10', and a door on the northern wall after 30'.

(it's so sad that I did that from memory..)

Savannah
2010-03-11, 11:29 AM
So it looks something like this? D = door I'm at, d = other door

......D __| |____d__
.....|..__...________
.....| |...| |
.....| |___
.....|..___
___| |___
_________

Kane listens for movement ([roll0]).

If he doesn't hear anything, he will move cautiously towards the other door (Move silently [roll1]). As he goes, he is using the 10' pole to sweep the floor ahead of himself for traps. He is also watching the floor, walls, and ceiling for anything out of the ordinary (Spot [roll2], Search [roll3], if needed). Golem is still heeling at his side. When he passes the corridors north and south, he will glance down both of them.

term1nally s1ck
2010-03-11, 11:48 AM
That's almost exactly right, but not to scale.

To the north, the corridor turns east after 20'.

To the south, the corridor turns west after 20', but there's a door on the eastern wall after 15'.

You find a pit after another 10', but it's only 5' across so you manage to get across it.

Opening the door reveals the following room:
{table]|A_|B_|C_|D_|E_
1|||||
2|||||
3|||||
4|||||
5|||||[/table]
There are doors at A5 south and E1 north.
In the room there is an ugly looking, blue scaled, lizard thing with fire in it's mouth!
Initiative: [roll0]

Savannah
2010-03-11, 12:03 PM
Who said anything about opening? First Kane will listen at the door (Listen [roll0]) for sounds of movement/breathing/anything else of interest.

term1nally s1ck
2010-03-11, 12:31 PM
You can't hear anything through the 500lb lead door.

Savannah
2010-03-11, 04:53 PM
Fair enough. He'll open the door.

Where exactly is the lizard-thing located? Initiative: [roll0]

EDIT: Well, that initiative sucks. I think I'm gonna die :smalleek:

C3.

He moves to A4 and breathes a stream of acid at you.

[roll0] damage, halved, and reflex to half again. You're also entangled.

Savannah
2010-03-12, 11:17 AM
Reflex: [roll0]. If I'm reading you right, I'm already supposed to halve it, so I'm taking 1 damage regardless, yes?

What is Kane entangeled with, spit? Can he scrape it off and how long would that take? (He's not trying, I'm just curious before I decide how to act.)

term1nally s1ck
2010-03-12, 12:23 PM
There's no way to remove it, but it will wear off in [roll0] rounds.

Savannah
2010-03-12, 08:04 PM
If he can move, Kane takes a 5' step to B5 and attemps to punch the thing.

Attack [roll0] minus any penalties due to being entangled.
Damage [roll1]

He also attempts to push Golem to attack if he still has a move action (I'm assuming this is not a humaniod, monstrous humaniod, giant, or animal). DC 25 to succeed. Handle animal: [roll2]

(If his actions are limited due to being entangled, he will attempt as much of this a possible.)
~~~~~~~
If he cannot move but can manipulate his equipment, Kane draws his bow and shoots the thing.
Attack [roll3] minus any penalties due to being entangled.
Damage [roll4]
~~~~~~~
If he can't move and can't manipulate his equipment, Kane will just try to push Golem to attack.

1st move action: see above roll.
2nd move action: Handle animal: [roll5]

term1nally s1ck
2010-03-13, 07:20 AM
It is a humanoid, actually. And, my apologies, but where was Golem standing when you opened the door? He might have been caught in the acid, too...

Savannah
2010-03-14, 06:28 PM
Golem was heeling, so she would probably be in the 5' square to Kane's left. Since I think Kane's in square A6, that would put her in (A-1)6. I'm hoping that the door protected her from the acid/stickiness.

Also, since it is a humanoid, Kane's handle animal roll is enough for her to attack it, and will only use a free action (assuming she is not stuck as well).

term1nally s1ck
2010-03-15, 12:43 PM
He goes for the punch, and misses horribly.

We tend to assume that ACs do what you wish them to, so you can just make him attack. Or have him on Attack-on-sight or something.

Either way, you control him, so he needs to make his attack.

EDIT: He's not been affected by the sticky acid.

Savannah
2010-03-15, 01:54 PM
Sweet, I didn't know how strict you were on animal companion behavior!

Golem steps up to A5 and bites at the thing.
Attack: [roll0]
Damage: [roll1]

If she hits, she attempts to trip as a free action (no attack of opportunity, no chance to react and trip her):
Trip: [roll2]

term1nally s1ck
2010-03-16, 06:33 AM
Miss too.

He takes a step back, and breathes a line of fire at the both of you.

[roll0] halved damage, reflex halves.

You're both entangled by fire for [roll1] rounds (doesn't stack), and Kane takes [roll2] ongoing acid damage.

Savannah
2010-03-16, 10:45 AM
Reflex:
Kane: [roll0]
Golem: [roll1]

When you give the damage "halved damage, reflex halves", does that mean that normally I'd be taking half that damge and with a refelx save I'm only taking a quarter?

term1nally s1ck
2010-03-16, 04:07 PM
That's right. Shoulda made that clearer.

Both fail.

Savannah
2010-03-17, 06:22 PM
OK, I've taken the damage.

How does being entangled in acid and fire affect Kane? Can he still move and attack normally?

term1nally s1ck
2010-03-17, 06:24 PM
half movement speed, -4 dex, -2 on attacks, so ranged attacks take a -4.

Savannah
2010-03-22, 01:18 PM
Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to this.

I believe that the creature is in A3, yes? Kane moves (starting in B5) B4-B3-A2, and then attempts to punch the creature.

Attack: [roll0] (accounts for -2 due to being entangled)
Damage: [roll1]

Golem steps to A4, flanking the creature.

Attack: [roll2] (accounts for entangled and flanking)
Damage: [roll3]

term1nally s1ck
2010-03-23, 11:01 AM
both miss..

[roll0] ongoing damage for kane

[roll1] ongoing damage for golem.

He woulda been in B3, actually. He'll take a step back to C2, and breathe at you.

[roll2] fire damage, reflex halves.

Savannah
2010-03-23, 01:22 PM
Regardless, the on-going damage kills me. :smallfrown:

term1nally s1ck

Bad times..

Want to restart?

Savannah
2010-03-24, 12:14 AM
Yes, but I need to think if there is anything I want to change first...

Savannah
2010-03-29, 11:55 AM
Eh, I don't feel like mucking about with a character right now. That surely means that I will die again, but at least I will know more about the dungeon for later tweaks.

Is anything I learn about the dungeon fair game for Kane to act on?

Ready to try again; no character changes. (Thanks for DMing this, by the way )

term1nally s1ck
2010-03-29, 05:47 PM
Your character has free and perfect knowledge about any/all past lives of any/all of your characters.

(Basically, that means OoC knowledge is A-ok.)

EDIT: Same starting room as before.

Savannah
2010-03-29, 06:07 PM
"Huh. That was a weird dream," says Kane. He looks around the room. "Oh, crap." (For my own personal amusement, I'm going to actually play that he's aware he's looping )

Kane takes the torch, orders Golem to heel, and opens the door. Assuming that the hallways are the same, he goes east, then south at the 4-way intersection. He goes to the door on the east wall and listens at the door. As he approaches the door, he moves quietly in the hopes of surprising anyone inside. (Listen: [roll0], Move silently: [roll1])

term1nally s1ck
2010-03-30, 09:17 AM
You're not the only one to do that, it's usually quite entertaining.

well, 5' south from the intersection, the floor crumbles from under you. Make a reflex save.

Savannah
2010-03-30, 09:27 AM
1d2-+5

Kane mutters something about the stupidity of not probing the floor with his 10' pole.

Savannah
2010-03-30, 09:29 AM
Don't know how that minus sign got in there.

[roll0]

term1nally s1ck
2010-03-30, 02:24 PM
Ooooh...that could hurt...

[roll0] falling damage.

Savannah
2010-03-31, 01:36 AM
That most definitely hurts.

Since Golem was heeling, she was one space back and to the left of Kane, so she should still be up top. Kane throws his rope and grappling hook up and tells her to hold it in her mouth. With her providing a brace, he climbs up. (Climb [roll0], don't know if there is anything else I need to roll)

term1nally s1ck
2010-03-31, 12:27 PM
5' wide pit, you have a corner and a chimney...the DC to climb out is like -5.

BTW, corridors are only 5' wide.

You climb out, and get to the door as before.

Savannah
2010-03-31, 12:30 PM
For some reason, I was thinking the corridors were 10' wide. In that case, Golem is in the square behind Kane, if if ever becomes relavant.

Kane casts cure light wounds on himself. [roll0]

If he doesn't hear anything from behind the door, he will open it carefully.

Savannah
2010-04-04, 03:53 PM
So what is in the room? (Or does he die opening the door?)

Just for the record, whenever he opens a door, Kane is doing so with his sleeve wrapped around his hand, in an attempt to avoid poisoned needles, etc.

term1nally s1ck

Opening the door reveals the following room:

There is a door at A-2, which you are just outside of, another at E-4, south side and another at E-3. There is a human wearing a chain shirt and holding a longsword standing behind a beast with patchy dark fur that covers its unhealthy shrunken black skin in some places. Open sores dot its hide and a feral, catlike head glances with it's blank eyes at the wall in front of it.

The beast blinks out of existence, as the human walks to C2 and fires a ray of cold at you: [roll0] vs flatfooted touch for [roll1] cold damage.

Savannah
2010-04-04, 10:04 PM
"Golem, attack!"

Kane moves A2-A3-B4-C4-C3 (should not provoke any attacks of opportunity - at least not from the human) and punches the human ('cause I keep forgetting to pull out my sword before opening a door).

Attack: [roll0]
Damage: [roll1]

Golem moves to B2 and bites.

Savannah
2010-04-06, 10:20 AM
Whoops, just saw that the trip attempt didn't roll properly. And since she hit...

Trip: [roll0]

term1nally s1ck
2010-04-06, 12:14 PM
That trip roll succeeds, since he appears to be dead, hence unable to resist.

The human is hit, hit, and critted, so your bonus crit damage does the job.

150XP, chain shirt, longsword.

Savannah
2010-04-06, 12:22 PM
"Well, that was more productive than last time." Kane quickly grabs the equipment and then looks around for the missing creature that had been with the man. Spot: [roll0] and Listen: [roll1]

He also points Golem to where the creature was standing and orders her to find it (hoping that she will scent it). He will take 20 on a Handle Animal check if necessary (total: 25).

Also, I just wanted to check, can I haul treasure around without having to worry about weight? (As long as it's fairly reasonable, of course!)

term1nally s1ck
2010-04-06, 12:42 PM
Yeah, sure. I don't mind letting you take multiple trips, so just assume you can get the stuff there.

As for the creature...you find a used and discarded scroll on the ground where the human had been, and suspect that your mind was merely playing tricks on you. It did disappear the moment the human focused on you...

Savannah
2010-04-06, 09:00 PM
Strange...

Kane opens the south door (covering his hand as usual), and looks outside.

term1nally s1ck
2010-04-07, 08:32 AM
opening the door, you see a large red and white painted bullseye on the floor outside.

Savannah
2010-04-07, 10:51 AM
"Well, that's not at all worrisome." Kane shuts that door, opens the east door, and looks out.

term1nally s1ck
2010-04-07, 12:24 PM
Yeah, that's the usual reaction. Everyone else seems to want to poke it for some reason. And then stand on it.

10' north, the corridor turns east, 10' south it turns west, and there's that bullseye on the floor again.

Savannah
2010-04-07, 12:36 PM
I was really fighting the urge to poke it as well. I suspect that it's just you messing with me (or whoever made the dungeon messing with me), but I don't feel like taking any chances.

Kane will go north (turning the corner east), probing the floor, walls, and ceiling with his 10' pole as he goes. Golem is behind him.

term1nally s1ck
2010-04-07, 04:51 PM
Our Benevolent Tanaric was the legendary creator.

Unfortunately, the epic CR challenge that is RL interfered, and took him from us. We fight on in his memory. (At least, I try to keep the sick twisted spirit of doom he inspired alive)

North 10', no traps, and to your east, there's a door south after 15', and a turning north after 20'.

Savannah
2010-04-07, 05:56 PM
Continuing to probe everywhere, Kane moves as quietly as possible to the door and listens at it for any clue as to what is inside. Move Silently: [roll0], Listen: [roll1]

term1nally s1ck
2010-04-07, 06:52 PM
No noises, no traps. If you open it:

2010-04-07, 07:46 PM
Well, I'm not dead. Yay? (1 hp left :smalleek:). And once again, I forgot to tell you I was pulling out my sword before I opened the door.

Kane takes a 5' step which ever way he needs to so that Golem has a clear shot at the door. Because of the doorframe, can he cast a spell without provoking an attack of opportunity?

Kane orders Golem to attack.
Attack: [roll0]

You have cover, so no, he can't AoO. You'd be stepping to the east.

Golem crit fails and his legs fall off.

Savannah
2010-04-12, 02:03 AM
Kane then uses the remainder of his action to cast magic fang on himself and Golem (share spells).

Golem, in her excitement to get at the enemy, manages to trip over her own feet and the door frame, making herself look extremely silly. (Do you have actual critical failures involving damage to the attacker, or is the embarrassment enough?)

term1nally s1ck

I've got 1 hp left (ow), so I think my only hope of survival involves 8 hours of rest and a cure light wounds. Kane goes back to the chamber he started in (prodding the floor, walls, and ceiling along the way). He barricades the door as much as he can, orders Golem to keep watch, and trances for 4 hours. Afterwords, he lets Golem sleep while he sits quietly for another 4 hours.

Swapping Magic fang for another Cure light wounds. I'll think about it and see if there's anything else I want to do.

Savannah
2010-04-18, 02:38 AM
Okay, just for the heck of it, Kane is now human. (Actually, he was originally human, but I switched to elf shortly before submitting him.) Sheet is in my signature if you want to check him.

Kane wakes up in the starting room. "Great. Just great. Hey, wait, something's different..." He looks down at himself for a few moments in puzzlement, then gasps and reaches up to feel his ears with horror. "No, no, NOOOOO!!!" He spends the next couple of minuets cursing in elven, before realizing he can't speak it anymore. "Golem, we HAVE to get out of here. Let's go."

He goes to the door and opens it. He then goes to the room containing the magic user he beat last time (can't find my sketch map of the dungeon right now, or I'd give better directions, sorry). This time, however, he is using his 10' pole to probe the floors, walls, and ceiling as he goes.

term1nally s1ck
2010-04-18, 04:15 AM
Do you wish to go east then south, or south then east? Both paths lead to Mr Colorspray.

Savannah
2010-04-18, 01:03 PM
I think I went east, then south last time, so I'll do that again. (Nice to know where the pit traps are!) Kane is still probing the floors, etc, in case something has changed since his last trip.

At the door, Kane pulls out his sword and flings open the door, trying to surprise the wizard guy.

term1nally s1ck
2010-04-18, 02:07 PM
So, you're probing the floor with the pole?

How much force are you using, and where are you poking? (walls too, or just floor?)

Savannah
2010-04-18, 02:31 PM
Err...enough force to determine if there is a trapdoor? Probing floors, walls, and ceiling. I've already been this way :smalleek:

term1nally s1ck
2010-04-18, 02:38 PM
Huh.

Well, at the intersection, as you prod the ceiling, the ceiling shoots back:

All vs flatfooted.

I assume that's a death?

Savannah
2010-04-18, 03:01 PM
I am TOTALLY stealing that trap for one of my dungeons. (Yes, it's a kill.)

Kane wakes up in the starting room, cursing the name of whoever trapped him here. He then goes back to the wizardy guy's room, but this time he does not prod the ceiling. Unless he dies on the way, he pulls out his sword and flings open the door, trying to surprise the wizardy guy.

term1nally s1ck
2010-04-18, 04:28 PM
This is why I still believe myself to be a little bit less evil than Tanaric.

He trapped the CEILING.

Initiative:[roll0]

See, ceiling traps that dump stuff on you, I expected. But ceiling traps that attack you when you are probing for the former? EVIL.

Initiative: [roll0] <- really just a formality, since with my new, improved initiative modifier, I'll be going first no matter what I roll.

Kane moves to E3 and attacks the human with his sword:
Attack: [roll1]
Damage: [roll2]

Golem moves to D3 and attacks the human:
Attack: [roll3]
Damage: [roll4]
Trip: [roll5]

Well, that was some poor rolling.

The human will open the door behind him and 5' step backwards, before blasting you both with a spray of colors. Will saves.

Savannah
2010-04-19, 02:58 AM
I know. And I got such a good roll on the initiative, where it didn't even matter.

Will saves:
Kane [roll0]
Golem [roll1]

I don't suppose that opening a door provokes attacks of opportunity?

term1nally s1ck
2010-04-19, 03:21 AM
No, it doesn't.

Golem is unconscious for [roll0] rounds, prone, stunned, and blind for [roll1] rounds after that, and merely blind for 1 round after that.

"YOU HURT MY DOG!!!!"

Kane steps up after the man and swings with his sword.
Attack: [roll0]

Does this mean that the man is standing on the bull's eye?

EDIT: well, crap. Die roller has decided to kill me today.

term1nally s1ck
2010-04-19, 03:32 AM
Indeed it does.

He'll fight back with his own sword:

He'll ready an action.

Savannah
2010-04-19, 04:28 AM
Undoubtedly preparing for me to attack with my sword again. Kane will try to catch him off guard with a swift knee to the groin kick to the leg. (He's probably readied the action against any attack, but it's worth a shot and Kane is not pleased about the whole Golem-being-unconscious thing. No in-game representation of the attack's location, obviously.) EDIT: now that I think about it, I'm going to use knee to groin for my stunning fist attack from now on.

Attack (unarmed): [roll0]
Damage: [roll1]

Wow, he woulda missed the WALL.

Savannah

term1nally s1ck

well, a good thing it missed, since you couldn't take that AoO. Cover.

Anyway, he backs off down the corridor.

Savannah
2010-04-19, 06:58 PM
But you said:

Take an AoO, then make a will save.
I didn't think that I would get an AoO, but since you said to...

Regardless, Kane will pursue his opponent, making sure not to step on the bull's eye.
How far did he back off? Can I attack him again this round?

term1nally s1ck
2010-04-19, 07:35 PM
Yeah, I made a mistake.

He backed off 30', and is at the intersection you saw before.

He also had a readied action:

[roll0] for [roll1] acid damage.

Savannah
2010-04-19, 07:46 PM
Eh, I figured the AoO thing was a mistake. Good thing I wasted my bad rolls on it :smalltongue:

Also, ow!

Kane moves 30' and attacks with his sword.
Attack: [roll0]
Damage: [roll1]

term1nally s1ck
2010-04-19, 08:05 PM
he readies another action...I dislike using my more cheesy tactics against PCs, but it's the only thing that makes sense here.

Savannah
2010-04-19, 08:47 PM
Oh, it totally makes sense. Much more sense than zombie orcs, for example :smalltongue:

Kane's getting a little bit frustrated with it, however, so he readies an action to attack if the man moves, and says:
"You are obviously a smart man, and I apologize for assuming you were not when I broke in. If you like, we can end this here, and just walk away. In fact, if you are as tired of this looping as I am, we could team up and get out of here."

term1nally s1ck
2010-04-19, 09:30 PM
Well, he takes a 5' step back and fires another ray of cold in answer.

2010-04-23, 12:09 PM
Kane goes back to check on Golem and discoverers that she's alright. He then casts cure light wounds on himself for [roll0].

Due to his previous zombie experience, he then goes and chops the wizard's body into little bits, in the hopes that it won't reanimate.

I'm still missing my previous map of the dungeon, so I can't remember the way to the orc, but that's where he's heading. (He's carefully not stepping on the bull's eye. When I finish this floor, I really want to know what that did.)

term1nally s1ck
2010-04-23, 12:25 PM
Your instincts guide you to the door of the orc's room.

Opening the door reveals the following room:

There is a door at B5, and another at B1. There is an orc in the middle of the room. It holds a Ripper and wears a chainmail, as well as a pair of goggles.

Savannah
2010-04-24, 12:13 AM
Seeing how my initiative modifier is the same as his total roll, I think I'll be going first.

Kane moves around the orc and attacks with his sword. I'm not sure which door I'm coming in (I will find or redraw that map!), but either way he should be able to go around the orc to flank with Golem when she runs straight in.

Savannah
2010-04-25, 07:44 PM
Thank goodness that attack roll doesn't hit her. What's the loot?

Kane will also chop this guy into little bits, as he really doesn't want to risk him coming back.

term1nally s1ck
2010-04-25, 07:49 PM
150XP, chainmail, sundark goggles, ripper, 50gp gem.

Savannah
2010-04-25, 07:56 PM
What do sundark goggles do? (I'm assuming they have something to do with orcs' light sensitivity, but is there anything Kane could use them for?)

term1nally s1ck
2010-04-25, 08:02 PM
selling them, maybe? :smalltongue:

Yeah, they turn off the light sensitivity.

Savannah
2010-05-06, 01:10 PM
I found my map!

After collecting the loot, Kane will open the south door, with his usual procedure of covering his hand with part of his clothing.

Also, if I ever beat this floor (at my rate, it'll be a while :smalltongue:), I'd probably be willing to DM it.

term1nally s1ck
2010-05-06, 01:17 PM
This corridor goes further to the east and west than your light reaches.

Savannah
2010-05-06, 01:21 PM
Kane will head east. He's moving stealthily (Hide: [roll0], Move silently: [roll1]). He is also probing the floor for traps with his pole, while keeping alert for anything out of the ordinary (Spot: [roll2], Listen: [roll3]).

term1nally s1ck
2010-05-06, 01:26 PM
a ridiculously long twisty corridor later, you get splashed by acid:

[roll0] vs ff touch for [roll1] acid damage.

soon after you reach a dead end that your mapping skills seem to suggest is the eastern wall of the room you just left.

Savannah
2010-05-06, 03:50 PM
Where did the acid come from? (Just curious.)

Hate to burn another cure light wounds this early, but 1 hp is not going to end well. [roll0]

Kane will go back and head west down the corridor.

term1nally s1ck
2010-05-06, 03:54 PM
Mid-air, as far as you can tell.

Oh, you found about 3-4 pit traps on the way, and jumped over them.

15' west, you get more acid attacks.

[roll0] for [roll1] vs FF touch.

Savannah
2010-05-06, 04:05 PM
I'm not sure I like this corridor any more. Kane will go back through the room with the orc and then head north.

term1nally s1ck
2010-05-06, 04:32 PM
Lol.

You find a blue notecard on the wall as you start to head north.

Savannah
2010-05-06, 07:31 PM
Kane stops and thinks about it for a minute. He walks quickly past the notecard without reading it or even looking at it.

term1nally s1ck
2010-05-07, 12:06 AM
Ok, I'm sorry, but you'll have to remind me where you've already been.

Savannah
2010-05-07, 12:38 AM
No problem, I had to go back and figure it out myself.

This round, Kane has killed and diced the wizard guy and the orc. The element-breathing lizard dude is the only other enemy I know of and he's still alive. I've really only been in the passages connecting the two enemies I've fought. (And I didn't step on the bullseye. Going for a 'don't touch ANYTHING even remotely suspicious' tactic.)

term1nally s1ck
2010-05-07, 01:15 AM
you can see 15' north. after 15' the corridor turns east. at 5', you're in the corridor headed east from your original corridor, and there's a door at this end, on the eastern wall. The corridor turns south at the same point, which is 20' to your east.

Savannah
2010-05-07, 09:44 PM
Still probing the floor with his pole, Kane makes his way to the door. Assuming he doesn't die along the way, he draws his sword, wraps his sleeve around his hand for protection and flings the door open.

Initiative: [roll0] (of course, this'll be the one room without an enemy)

I'm so glad my flat-footed AC is 14.

Kane strikes back with his sword, then takes a 5' step sideways.
Attack: [roll0]

Miss chance: [roll2] (hit)

Golem takes a 5' step into the space Kane just vacated, and bites at the kobold.
Attack: [roll3]

Miss chance: [roll6] (would hit if it weren't for her abysmal attack roll)

term1nally s1ck

The kobold doesn't like that, and decides to play dirty. He points behind you, where you thought you saw a small fire elemental appear...but while distracted, he lols and attacks you.

[roll0] for [roll1] + [roll2], and you have a 20% miss chance on attacks on a failed fort save.

He then does a double backflip to the far corner, and motions you to 'bring it'

term1nally s1ck
2010-05-08, 04:50 PM

Is that attack on Golem, who's right in front of him, or on Kane who is off to the side?

Also, I like this guy's style.

term1nally s1ck
2010-05-08, 05:04 PM
Kane if you're not behind cover. If you are, Golem.

Oh, just letting you know that your attack missed.

Savannah
2010-05-08, 06:33 PM
I believe that the doorframe was giving Kane cover, so it would hit Golem.

Golem's fort save: [roll0]

She runs after the kobold and attacks:

Damage: [roll2]
Trip: [roll3]
Miss: [roll4]

Kane also moves up to the kobold and attacks:
Attack: [roll5]

That was aimed at Kane, btw. You're the only one to have come close to hitting.

He'll do a couple of somersaults across the room, now. Back to the 20% miss chance.

[roll0] vs DC 15 for Golem EDIT: Bah.
[roll1] vs DC 16 for Kane

If either fail, that guy gets an AoO.

EDIT: Crap, forgot the size modifier to atk rolls. Guess he's actually slightly better still.

Savannah
2010-05-09, 05:46 PM
Kane is at -4 hp. I'm doubting that Golem, at 3 hp, can take this guy, so shall we restart?

After some consideration, I've concluded that I'm not really getting anything out of the monk, so I'd like to redo Kane as Druid/Cleric of Obad-Hai. Since it's a fairly major change, do you want me to resubmit him to the main recruiting thread for a sheet check when I get done?

term1nally s1ck
2010-05-09, 06:17 PM
Heeheee, I love this kobold.

In fact, he just earned his own themetune. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVjC0GZjsOo seems good, whaddaya think?

Err, yeah, probably best to re-submit. Still more deaths than kills?

Savannah
2010-05-09, 06:30 PM
I swear, when I get done with this I will DM just to know what the bullseye does and to steal that kobold for one of my games.

Yeah, my kill:death ratio still stands at <1. :smallsigh:

term1nally s1ck
2010-05-10, 06:02 PM
The Kobold is entirely Tome of Battle. Well, Core for Weapon Finesse, and UA for the Desert Variant, and a flaw (just one) to take a second feat from ToB.

He's shadow hand and desert sun for maneuvers.

Savannah
2010-05-18, 01:52 PM
PhoenixRivers says I check out (via PM, so it's not in the main thread), but before I get started, I wanted to ask a question. Kane is now an archer, and Golem will be doing all the melee, so I was wondering if it would be possible for Kane to open doors from the side, so that Golem is the one standing in the doorway? (I want to keep my squishy archer out of the enemy's line of fire until they are too worried about getting bit to attack him!)

term1nally s1ck
2010-05-18, 04:29 PM
Yeah, you can do that.

Ok, so same starting room as last time.

Savannah
2010-05-18, 07:56 PM
Kane blinks a few times, and considers his new equipment. "Huh. Well, I'll never get out of here if I don't keep trying, so..."

For some reason I feel like giving lizard boy another try. Kane will go east to the door. I think I already know about the pit trap (and ceiling trap!), but Kane will still be probing the floor with his quarterstaff.

When he reaches the door, Kane draws his bow and nocks an arrow. He swings the door open, leaving Golem in front.

Hmm...I think I want to explore a new section. Kane will go back out the door in A2, west, then south. If my map is correct, this dead-ends into a E-W passage. He will continue to go west.

He is probing the floor in front of himself with his quarterstaff as he walks.

term1nally s1ck
2010-05-19, 08:03 PM
you turn south to get the the end of the corridor, and you get splashed by acid as you probe the floor: [roll0] vs flat-footed touch for [roll1]

continue on anyway?

Savannah
2010-05-20, 04:03 PM
I think I will not be continuing down this corridor. Of course, knowing how evil Tanaric is, I'll have to brave the acid to get out of here. Although...it might be even more evil for him to have put the acid on a corridor leading nowhere...

Now, you said earlier that the acid seemed to be coming from mid-air. Is it dropping on top of Kane, being flung at him, or just appearing all around him?

term1nally s1ck
2010-05-20, 05:01 PM
flung at him.

Savannah
2010-05-20, 07:40 PM

term1nally s1ck

It'll count as soft cover, so +4 AC..And do you have the carrying capacity?

Savannah
2010-05-21, 12:08 PM
I was thinking about sticking my backpack on Golem for the time that I'm using the body, so if he weighs less than 130 lbs, yes.

However, +4 AC versus an attack of +8 is not very good odds. Hmm...

Savannah
2010-05-22, 04:31 PM
OK. Gonna go somewhere else, then.

Kane will go back to the four-way intersection near the starting room, then go north, as that is the only direction he hasn't been from there.

term1nally s1ck
2010-05-22, 04:35 PM
You go 20' north, 10' east, 10' north.

20' and 30' west, the corridor turns north.

20' east, the corridor turns north. 30' east, there's a door south. 50' east, there's a door north, and a turning south.

Savannah
2010-05-22, 04:42 PM
Just to make sure I've got this right, after the N-E-N section, the corridor basically ends in a T with multiple passages/doors off the E and W sides of the T?

Like this (not to scale, d is door and K is Kane):

|..|____|..|_______|..|_____d__
|____________...______d____...|
....................|K|................|..|

term1nally s1ck
2010-05-22, 05:36 PM
Exactly right.

Savannah
2010-05-22, 05:47 PM
He'll go to the south door (glancing down the corridor as he passes) and open it. If it leads to the room with the lizard guy, he'll shut it immediately.

Standard procedures for walking down corridors and opening doors: probing the floor with his quarterstaff, opening doors with cloth over his hand.

term1nally s1ck
2010-05-22, 05:53 PM

Savannah
2010-06-02, 06:12 PM
It's no big deal. School got super busy again right after I posted, so I was waiting for a slower time before I PMed you. (Is it bad that I'm looking forward to finals week because it will be easer than regular school?)

Kane will wait a minute before he does anything with the coin, just in case there is something on a timer. If nothing changes, he will close the chest for a minute and then open it again. If still nothing has changed, he will pick up the coin. ('Cause I can't think what else the note would mean.)

term1nally s1ck
2010-06-02, 06:28 PM
Still just 1 pp.

Savannah
2010-06-02, 06:42 PM
Gonna pick it up, hand wrapped in spare cloth because I don't trust it not to be trapped. Actually, Kane's going to send Golem to wait just outside the room (door still open) before he touches it so that if he's bombarded with acid or something, she won't need healing too.

If he doesn't die, Kane will tuck the platinum piece away and wait for a minute, in case another is created.

term1nally s1ck
2010-06-02, 06:45 PM
Just a platinum piece.

I have no idea why you were being so paranoid..

Savannah

Kane pockets the pp, calls Golem, and heads out through the north door.
