View Full Version : Neverending Dungeon - Choppy McSuey

The air surrounding you fairly hums with the residue of magic, an aftereffect of the spell that brought you to this place. A quick glance reveals that you are in a small room, devoid of any life save for yourself. The sound of dripping water can be heard faintly, and the stone walls are slick with moisture. In complete defiance of logic, a torch is already lit, resting in a sconce near the room's single door.

You know the drill, using the pole to test the walls, floors, and doors in front of me. Open the door, turn south and then east at the split, assuming that it's the same as last time.

term1nally s1ck
2010-03-08, 02:04 PM
You recall well.

Opening the door reveals the following room:
{table]|A_|B_|C_|D_|E_
1|||||
2||H|||
3|||||
4|||||[/table]
There is a door at A-2, which you are just outside of, another at E-4, south side and another at E-3. There is a human wearing a chain shirt and holding a longsword. He knows you're coming, and as you open the door, you're hit by a Ray of Frost: [roll0] touch attack for [roll1] cold damage.
Initiative:[roll2]

Elistan

Choppy steps forward and choppies(tm) the human with his claymore.

OOC: Not gonna bother rollin' Init, as I can't lose. Using Stone Bones (Warblade) on the human, while in Martial Spirit Stance. Rolling for Maneuvers (Crusader) below. All damage is in my Delayed Damage Pool, and will be healed if I hit with this attack.

Attack: [roll0]
Damage: [roll1]

Maneuvers:
[roll2]
[roll3]
1. Crusader's Strike
2. Stone Bones
3. Douse the Flames
4. Charging Minotaur
5. Vanguard Strike

Just realised you have a double stone bones. Ew.

He is smeared. 150XP, longsword, chain shirt.

Elistan
2010-03-08, 02:35 PM
Out comes the pole, and through the door at E3.

Hehe, and that's the plan. Try and take me down in melee, punk!

term1nally s1ck
2010-03-08, 02:37 PM
I suspect the traps will wear you down.

North: The corridor turns east after 10'

South: The corridor turns west after 10'

Elistan
2010-03-08, 02:41 PM
South and west, feeling the way with the pole (always).

term1nally s1ck
2010-03-08, 02:52 PM
you go south 10', and you can see the other door from the room you just cleared with a single sweep on the north side 5' in.

There's a red and white painted bullseye on the floor just outside it.

The corridor goes 50' west before turning south, with a split north at 40'.

Elistan
2010-03-08, 02:55 PM
Poke the bullseye with the pole, then walk over it (IF NOTHING HAPPENS) and move on. Life's no fun without some risk, right?

term1nally s1ck
2010-03-08, 03:06 PM
Nothing happens.

Where to?

Elistan
2010-03-08, 03:08 PM
To the split, and if I can't see any doors, then to the turn south.

term1nally s1ck
2010-03-08, 03:12 PM
The split is simply the end of the southern corridor from your starting point.

You reach the end of the corridor. To the south, the corridor turns east after 10'.

What range is your vision/light source?

Elistan
2010-03-08, 03:14 PM
60 ft Darkvision from my orcyness.

Around the turn to the east, then.

term1nally s1ck
2010-03-08, 03:24 PM
The corridor extends further east than you can see, with no turnings or splits or doors.

Elistan
2010-03-08, 03:31 PM
Follow the passage until I can see something, putting as much pressure as I can on each floor and wall space.

OOC: Question: I remember reading a thread before I started playing this where the player used a ladder. Any reason why you would use a ladder instead of a pole? Just so you can climb it, if need be?

term1nally s1ck
2010-03-08, 03:46 PM
It costs less. And he could use it to climb over pits.

After only 5', you see a door at the limits of you vision on the northern wall.

You poke the square in front of you, and are rewarded by acid.

[roll0] vs flatfooted touch AC

[roll1] acid damage.

Elistan
2010-03-08, 03:49 PM
Assuming it makes no difference, but I'm poking the floor two spaces in front of me.

But anyway, Choppy heads to the door, checks it, etc. and opens it.

Initiative (if needed): [roll0]

Maneuvers (if needed):

On the way, you trigger more acid: [roll0] for [roll1]

And jumping a pit, you find the door.

There is a door at B5, which you are just outside of, and another at B1. There is an orc in the middle of the room. It holds a Ripper and wears a chainmail, as well as a pair of goggles.

He knows you're coming, and charges you:

Elistan
2010-03-08, 05:48 PM
Is there any way to fight defensively while not in combat? Like attacking the wall or something? And would that keep you from being FF vs the traps?

If so, he'll do that, but regardless Choppy heads to the room where he met the orc in his past life.

term1nally s1ck
2010-03-09, 05:15 AM
Nope, sorry.

I know that there is at least one way to dodge all those traps. You have to do some serious thinking, though.

[roll0]

Well, assuming you restart, a piece of advice.

How often do you think people would have survived this floor if every opponent got a surprise round? And what is your char doing that might let the enemies know you're coming?

Elistan
2010-03-09, 03:21 PM

term1nally s1ck
2010-03-12, 04:35 PM

There's also a large blue notecard hanging from the wall, with something written on it.

Elistan

Read the notecard, look both ways at the split, and if I don't see anything interesting, head to the bend eastward.

That notecard reads:

"Burn me for help in times of trouble"

To the east, there's a door on the eastern wall 20' away as the corridor turns south.

There's a red notecard on the western wall 5' south of you. It appears to have something written on it.

Hey, just dropping by to say that I don't think I'm gonna be participating any longer in this. It's been great fun, but things are getting a little bit crazy right now, and I'm just not finding myself able to put the amount of effort into this that it deserves.

So thanks for a great game, and I hope to game with you in the future!

P.S. He's at 1 HP anyway, so chances of survival were pretty slim...:smallwink:

No worries, and glad you enjoyed it. If you find yourself wanting to get back into it whenever, just PM me, or post on recruitment again.

Have fun!
