"Who knew what the Earth's Wardens could do?"

Although druids are the most common and known voice of the Earth spirits, they represent mainly the powers of the Shallow Earth. To know the will of the Deep Earth, you must seek council of the Terrans, the wardens that truly channel the powers of the mountains and deep places.

Members of the terran class rarely choose to be so - they are chosen and molded to the will of the Elemental lords.

Abilities: Terrans require sturdy bodies to channel the magic of the earth, and so Constitution is their most important ability - the one defining their ability with spellcasting.

Races: The Earth chooses it's followers among all races, but there are some that have seem to be favored more than the others. Svirfneblin, the deep gnomes, are among the favored ones, as well as dwarves.

Alignment: Most terrans are lawful, although neutral terrans are not unheard of. Chaotic terrans are exceedingly rare.

Starting gold: 2d4x10

Starting age: As wizard (ph. 109).

Shape stone (Su): All terrans have the natural ability to magically shape solid stone and rock of any kind into mundane objects. You can create any object object you can imagine, provided you have access to appropriate amount of stone and you can succesfully make a terran level check. The DC of the check is determined by the size and complexity of the item:

{table=head]Item Size | DC
1 cu ft. or less | -5
1.1-2.0 cu ft. | 0
2.1-4.0 cu ft. | 5
4.1-8.0 cu ft. | 10
8.1-12.0 cu ft. | 15
12.1-16.0 cu ft. | 20
16.1-24.0 cu ft. | 25
24.1-30.0 cu ft. | 30
{table=head]Item Complexity | Modifier
Fine details | +2
Functioning tool | +2
Functioning armor/weapon | +5
Multiple parts | +5
Masterwork version |+10
Moving parts | +10
For an example, Dennark, a 1st level Terran decides to create a set of thieves tools out of stone for his rogue friend. The DM determines that the total volume of the tools are less than 1 cubic feet, giving it a base DC of -5. The item Dennark is attempting to create is a functioning tool (+2 to DC) with multiple parts (+5 to DC), bringin the DC up to 2. To succeed on this check, Dennark must roll above 1 to complete the set - an easy task, even with his modifier of +1.

Each attempt to create an item requires a number of minutes equal to the DC. (For Dennark, the set of thieves' tools would take 2 minutes). You can take 10 on this check. Created items persist of 1 hour per terran level, and can only be solid objects; you can not use this ability to create liquids, gases or living matter. The objects created have no magical properties, though they radiate a faint but distinct transmutation magic.

You can create and maintain a number of objects equal to your terran level. If you create an additional item, the item that has been in existance the longest reverts to it's original, useless form (though you may later use the same piece of stone to create a different object, if you wish). Items you create using this ability otherwise persists for the duration of this ability, regardless of their distance from you.

All items created in this fashion have hardness 10, and hit points according to their size: Fine 4; Diminutive 8; Tiny 12; Small 20; Medium 32; Large 40; Huge 60; Colossal 100.

Stonecunning (Ex): This ability grants a terran a +2 racial bonus on Search checks to notice unusual stonework, such as sliding walls, stonework traps, new construction (even when built to match the old), unsafe stone surfaces, shaky stone ceilings, and the like. Something that isn’t stone but that is disguised as stone also counts as unusual stonework. A terran who merely comes within 10 feet of unusual stonework can make a Search check as if he were actively searching, and a terran can use the Search skill to find stonework traps as a rogue can. A terran can also intuit depth, sensing his approximate depth underground as naturally as a common human can sense which way is up.

If a terran already has stonecunning from another source - say, from being a dwarf - the bonus to search checks increases to +4 instead.

Bonus Language: All terrans gain Terran as a language for free, at 1st level.

So, what do you think of the work so far?

To-do list:
- Write down Improved Shape Stone
- Determine spells per day
- Improve spell list, especially at lower levels
- Find suitable cantrips
- Determine skills
- Write down a few feats.
- Write down more fluff
- Write down Spells section and weapon proficiencies.

My first larger homebrew project, by the way. Could use some input. :smallwink:

What you have so far doesn't look bad. A few comments, though.

If Constitution is their important ability, why do they have a poor Fort save and good Will save?

Shape Stone seems reasonably balanced (the time required, particularly).

I don't have the SC, so I can't comment on the spell selection.

The rest of your list of things to do will help me evaluate the class better.

What kind of power level were you aiming for?
