A great council was held in the far away plane of Arcanum. The world was now nothing but a giant, hollow rock. Oeaurn had few beauties, and no life. None save a deity of rock and earth would be happy their now. The great, Grand Master Tien Lung had decided to hold a meeting between the beings called gods. Something had to be done in order to decide the order of the universe.

The fair Luonia, who had dubbed herself Huntress of the Night, arrived first. She already had her plans for this world. The night sky would be the most beautiful thing ever, yet night would still be wrought with peril.

Gealach arrived next. He he already knew what he intended to create within this world, little though it was. But first he would wait. In any good game he prefered to see how the other players think before he acted.

Next to the council was Treatha. She had plans to make the world lush with plant life and animals, devoid of those Humans who made Oeaurn the way it is now.

The grey-bearded man wore a belted knee-length tunic with short sleeves, bracers adorned with gemstones and a woolen cloak dyed red. The self-proclaimed Savior of Oeaurn sat on a golden throne decorated with bas-relief depicting fantastic beasts. He held a sky blue orb in one hand and a royal scepter in the other.

Hegemon greatly anticipated this moment. He studied his divine kin as they reached the chamber of the council, barely hiding his amusement. Were they really all that stood between him and his dreams of an Eternal Empire?

OOC: Has the world only just been created, or are we recycling one that has been previously destroyed, somehow? Also: Do we know each other before this point, is this our first meeting, or do we get to decide?

Neither particularly early, nor particularly late, Recolitus added his presence to the gathering. At first he looked like the divine equivalent of a hermit traveller - large, but relatively gaunt, not bearded, but stubbled, not dressed in finery, but swathed in a shabby grey cloak.

The sour point in that impression came when one glanced at Recolitus' back. A great Longsword was located there, with a gleaming metal shield also present and covering most of his rear. Although he never left the tools of his trade entirely behind, he had at least made a concession to the nature of this meeting, by wearing them out of their normal position.

Of course, for the sharp of eye, there was also the hints of metal *under* the cloak...

When arrived, his first action was to turn to Tien Lung, and offer a deep bow. "Your servant" he intoned, before rising once again. Then he took up the others' passtime of observing those present.

Arc was standing with the others. He seemed to have always been there, though only noticed now. He had plans for this world, though they would remain his for now. He was unarmed, though his visible skin was covered with pale silvery runes. He wore a plain grey hooded robe and kept out of the way of the more 'impressive' gods.

Kartorish came next to the assembly. He was dressed in a non-descript dark blue hooded robe. The hood covered most of his face in shadow, all that could be seen was a wide scaley mouth filled with dagger like teeth.

He stood slightly in the distance, as if all he would do would be stand at the side and listen to what was happening.

Grandmaster Tien Lung looked puzzled at the word "Master". "Master is only a title, none of you are among my servants. . I merely provide for you gods an image that is pleasing to the eye.
All the gods saw Tien Lung as a calming, pleasing visage. Some saw him in his true form as a dragon man, others simply saw what they thought they could see. Hegemon saw a noble man in Mandarin garb.
In fact, Tien Lung was once on Earth thousands of years ago, but that is another story. "Friends, we need to find out what we are to do with the rock below. In order to flourish and thrive we need to use whatever land is available. Should we choose another world? I say no."

Luonia studied the planet.
"It should do, just give it a beautiful night sky, one with stars, and a thriving ecosystem, and it should be perfect."
Of course, if man d&d become a creation, she already knew how she would add to them. Bows and hunting, yet living with the environment.

But none of us called him master...

"It starts with a matter of logistics. Unless we desire to spend the remainder of this world's lifespan maintaining little pockets of life by will alone, then there are cycles that must be begun. Water, is the first one. Air the second. Life the third. Knowledge the fourth. These are thre pre-requisites of an autonomous world, needing us only as the guides and not the foundations."

Now came a glance around the gathering. "I think perhaps there are some amoungst you who know each of these things better than I do. Maybe the specialists would deign to inform us what will be necessary to start these cycles moving..."

The last to arrive at the meeting is a robed and cloaked man, the cowl pulled tightly over his head concealing his visage. Only two red eyes can be seen within. He stays further to the back of the meeting. The act of creation did not truly concern him. It was what happened afterwards, with the death and decay of all things in which he would become prominent.

Luonia looks at Recolitus.
"I can't believe I'm the one who hasto point this out, but since you don't know it, shouldn't light be in there somewhere? Which in itself would lead to darkness. Someone creates the light, and I create the shadows. Someone creates day, and I create night. But still, the point is, you forgot light."

Arpola

Finally, after the other Gods and their elements came, Arpola arrived. At first, it was difficult to see her, merely a shimmering in the distance until she got close enough. Her body manifests as woman made of polished metal, a living statue of glistening living silver-plated iron. While beautiful (and doubtlessly would make a wonderful idol in her name) this shape has the unfortunate side effect of not being impressive in the void.

"I apologize for my lateness... I was just watching a star go supernova over in the Andromeda galaxy. Such a beautiful sight." She sighs in remembered of all the new heavy elements that have been added to the universe thanks to that stars destruction.

Bowing to her fellow deities, she hears the words of Grandmaster Tien Lung, Recolitus, and Luonia.

"Yes, a bit of light, then water for the plants, then animals... then something intelligent. Then we give them tools." She smiles. "The sooner we get some mortal followers to help us cultivate this barren world, the better."

She gazes at the world below, looking to see if there is any living thing down there that might have a use for tools. If none appear... then Arpola might have to wait... though she could help reshape the world. Maybe erupt a few volcanoes or send a few glaciers grinding across the continents... that ought to stir up some mineral deposits and maybe give the life down there some decent farmland when the time comes.

Arpola rolls her eyes "I said I was sorry... Okay, I know that letting humans find out how to purify Uranium and harness the power of the atom may have resulted in some unpleasantness but it was an honest mistake. They had a war to win and others wanted to be safe... and well things just got out of hand."

She sighs. "How about this time we all let everyone know up-front that we exist and who we are. Lets... lets... sign our names on the moon in big letters so that there is no question that they were created and that way we can keep everyone in one sort of big happy family and keep them from making up new and weirder gods (I know its going to be tough enough to keep us and our cosmic portfolios in line... once mortal races start thinking about genocide then you really can't expect things to go smoothly)."

Hegemon looked into his orb.

"I say... Let's not be too quick to bury an idea. Let's not restrain ourselves too much. We must remain open to every possible world... The Humans, for instance. Maybe, just maybe they are the special ingredient without which there would be innovation, no greatness. It may be risky to bring Humans, it may sometimes lead to disaster, but it may also be the only way to attain greatness.

As for other matters, I am of the same opinion as Lord Recolitus. Let the more naturally-inclined deities work out the cycles of the planet. Then, the...finer things will be addressed."

"Why wouldn't the People profit from it? I sincerely do not understand the problem. Now who`s to say that, for example, the elves are not a path to greatness. Greatness in Knowlege, understanding, and wisdom. At least they aren`t as inclinded to tear eachother to shreds on their path to greatness.

"Fallactious reasoning, I am afraid. Elves are less likely to tear each other apart on minor, spur of the moment reasons - but conversely, they are more likely to form long-term schisms of astonishing ferocity. Need I remind the rest of you of the many, many occurances of Dark Elf or Drow factions scattered across the multiverse? Corruption amoung elves is slower, but no less dangerous. Any life intelligent enough to be worth the sobriquet 'sapient' comes with risks.

I think the best way to avoid the major pitfalls is to populate the world with several sentient species. Each has a tendancy to temper the weaknesses of others... if the correct mix is struck, the population as a whole will actually be broadly rational.

I also doubt the wisdom of writing our names on the moon, if only because I know mortals will eventually misunderstand such signs. Maybe their alphabet will change. Maybe they will come up with the theory that it's just a coincidental shape formed by asteroid impacts. Maybe they'll just create so much smoke that by the invention of the telescope they cannot see the moon. No, if we wish them to remain faithful, we will need to remain active on the world below. We will have to provide them not with one proof at the beginning of things, but with many proofs, hundreds, maybe thousands of proofs, continually as they live on this world."

Finally, Recolitus turns to address Hegemon directly. "I think perhaps you confuse the phrases 'rule for their sake' and 'rule for OUR sake'. I think it may well be a deliberate mistake. I also think few of us would appreciate bringing life into this world solely to provide you with an entourage of inferior lackeys!"

Kaiser Omnik
2010-03-16, 10:16 PM
"Ah! But elves are also extremely conservative and, might I say, a bit xenophobic. I am not saying that a race is better than the other - quite the contrary. They can all have a place in my dream. Which is why I am saying we should give every one of them a chance at life. Else we risk tipping the balance and upsetting the harmony of this small world.

The Humans, for example, will certainly shake things up for us. I'm sure our friend Gealach here appreciates the gamble."

Hegemon walked around the room with a confident, yet not overly arrogant attitude.

"We must agree to disagree, for now anyway. We cannot decide at this moment what should and what shouldn't be. We will certainly not have a consensus over the most appropriate races to inhabit Oeaurn. Then, let us all get to work and see what opportunities arise in the process. Let the creativity flow; it is with experience that we will know for a fact what does fit in our vision and what must be purged."

Hegemon then stopped next to Recolitus.

"You milord still seem to be misinterpreting my motives. The world hasn't even been shaped yet - let's not jump to conclusions too quickly. It is true that I aspire to greatness - it would be foolish to claim that the rest of the deities are different in that regards. But is our greatness really separate from our subjects' success, and vice-versa? You see, everything and everyone has a place in my dream. You will all come to share it, I am certain of that. Then maybe one day true harmony will be instituted."

I'll take my favorite color!

"I see we are getting nowhere. I have a suggestion, how about instead of agreeing to disagree, we agree to agree. It's not hard. Watch. I'll start. Hegemon smiled some more.

"Sweet Luonia. If a god wanted to intervene directly in the lives of mortals - which, you're right, seems to be mostly accepted among our group - he wouldn't wait to have everyone's approval to do it. This is why I think it is futile to make those kind of decisions now. Must I remind you that we don't have a truly higher auhtority to ensure those decisions are respected by all? Even Grandmaster Tien Lung, the wisest of us all, is not qualified to be a judge of deities. I say, if we should agree on something, it's to leave the others alone until we are satisfied with our work. Then I am sure things will fall into by place on their own. We will be there to resolve any issue that may or may not come up. Once the basics are done with, we just need to approach the creations of other gods with an open mind. I, for one, greatly anticipates that moment."

"Your words simply give me reason to doubt you more. For who would you be measured against? Who can you rise *above* to achieve greatness? Us, obviously. There is nothing else on this world that would provide a convincing test, nothing else that could realistically resist. So long as you remain one of the pack you will never be particularly 'great'... which means you probably have plans to not remain 'just one of the pack' for long."

Recolitus and Hegemon, round one. Fight!

"I would say our disagreements so far really only center around what happens once we reach the sentient life stage. I propose that we allow those who specialise in such things to create a sustainable environment first, and we re-convene to discuss inhabitants once it is ready."

"Rather than influencing the path of creation once again, making a world fitting to your oft-conflicting whims, why not just set a few aspects up and then leave the thing alone for a while? We can guide where needed, but the most interesting and useful worlds are those which developed on their own."

Arc glances up at the rest of the meeting.

"Anyway, if we decide to organise everything ourselves, no-one will ever get anything done. Especially if Hegemon and Recolitus keep going for each other's throats. Both of you know that the Proxima Centauri Incident was a mistake, so drop it. Let's focus on something which hasn't been brought up a thousand times before."

"Who ever said we were a pack? Maybe there are more...suitable types of organization for gods.. And maybe they need a "head". Maybe they require one to see the greater picture and be able to weave their personal contributions together into a grand tapestry. But I will leave the rest to your imagination, my friends."

Hegemon turned towards his other "brothers and sisters" and clapped his hands a few times.

"Everyone gave a great performance today. Marvelous! Councils are always so entertaining. However, I do not see the need for yet another one to discuss sentient life. With all due respect Lord Recolitus, we all know how much you prefer settling disagreements on the battlefield than around a table. So be it. No need for mindless chatter. You all know my position on the matters concerning the creation of the world, I believe. Hopefully, some of you will ponder my ideas. In the meantime, I will leave the "mechanics" of this world to your care. I trust you will do a fabulous job."

Arpola

Arpola hears the others in the Divine Palace, she gazes down upon the barren rocky orb curiously.

Ah, this is the trouble with Pantheons... well, also the strength I suppose. We've all got to work together to get anywhere and sadly some of us are specialists. Hegemon and Recolitus seemed to be on near the same boat as herself... their domains practically require the existence of intelligent life for them to do anything... but they don't have much in the way of anything to create that life to begin with.

And we'll need an ecosystem before we can get animals, and animals before we can get people, and people before we can get civilization. Pity we can't have people that need no ecosystem.

At that thought Arpolas eyes open wide and and she reflexively slaps herself on the forehead, causing an audible clanging sound.

"Oh silly me..." She turns to the other gods in the room. "These two won't have anything to do until we get some intelligent life down there... and organic life will take eons to set up. But really there's nothing stopping me from whipping up some metallic life sooner." To the various nature gods she says diplomatically, "I'll see about whipping up some Metal Men to keep these boys occupied while you set the environment up for organic life."

At that, Arpola steps walks out of the meeting room of the Gods, steps out onto the balcony that looks over this new rocky world, and she calmly steps off.

If anything was alive on the planets surface, it would see what looked like a falling star streak across the sky. As she approached the planets surface, Arpola slowed her decent and landed gingerly upon the rocky surface... there may be no plants or proper atmosphere to support organic life, but a creature with no need to breath would have little trouble.

"Clockwork Men... yes, that sounds like a good idea. I'll find a suitable volcano to set up an iron foundery and workshop. Then I'll get the ore to start making them. 1,000 Clockwork Men, the first intelligent creatures in the world... keep them wound up and repaired and they will last forever." She smiles to herself "Imagine, intelligent life wandering the surface before the first blade of grass... It'll be worth it just to see how the elves react... if anyone makes them."

She looks for a volcano... taking her time before deciding on the right one. It's not like anything else of interest will be happening in the next thousand years.

The Wanderer slips into the hall even as others leave. A former mortal, he has never quite been comfortable in these creationary arguments. His work is the flow, not the sudden act of creation. Nevertheless, his input would be needed, before everyone else messed it up. There, he points, outlining a vast puddle of water between the growing forests. A mountain range there, a mountain range there. Let this new ocean between sink into the rock and let the sandstone return to sand. Hard winds from the East, but the rain it bears will be left on the mountain tops.

And with that he strained, carefully lifting and shaping the land. Even as rain fell, even though this was not yet a desert, it would be, and so the power was his to control. Elves first... always the elves first. Stigandr sighs as he molds his Oasis into the desert. On this world he would make it crisp, almost geometric. Rings and whirls so that, from above, the motion of the trees on the water's edge would cause the whole of his sanctuary seem to swirl with the wind.

Arpola

Luonia races out to the balcony and looks down at Arpola.
What are you doing?

Arpola finds a nice volcano to start out with. With steel hands that never tire or suffer injury she digs into the mountain, excavating it to create her workshop. It will be the Workshop of Arpola, the very founding of the first civilization carved into Mount Primus.

"I'm setting up shop, making a nice little material spot of my own where I can fashion the first thinking creatures on this planet. If you want one of them then you'd better speak up."

In the blink of a gods eye, Arpola had set up a massive complex into the mountain, fueled by the very fires of the planets molten core. With her hands she created tools, then with those she dug ore and fired it to make more complex tools, and with those she made intricate tools and with those she began her work.

She fashioned a metal body, a large and powerful humanoid frame with a vaguely feminine form. A creature of both power and beauty. Then, Arpola fashioned the intricate gears, cables, and clockwork mechanisms that would give this creation movement. Then, she installed its wind-up spring and gear system that would store its motive energy. And finally, Arpola fashioned a mechanical Heart for her creation, a clockwork computer that would give her creation the ability to think and feel, remember, and learn.

With meticulous care, Arpola installed the Heart into the Clockwork Person and wound its key. After several minutes, her creation had enough power to run for a day or two and let it go.

The first intelligent mortal on the planet blinked as she got up and looked at her surroundings. "Who are you?" she asked Arpola.

Finally, now things were getting done. Yet, still it was not time for Vesper to act. He would need to wait until things began to decay and die before it was time for him to begin exerting his influence within this world.

Hmm... Stigandr considers the region in question. That bit there on the edge? Why not.

Now, it seems the base world has been created. Now I suppose we should vote on the main creatures who will inhabit the land, other than the dark elves and those robots.

I vote for the Halflings.

"You can have whatever you want inhabiting the world, I don't really care aslong as I have my shark-men. Something has to protect my oceans while I work on other projects."

Gealach reappears whith a chiming sound as the topic of choosing races is brought up.

"My favoured race is already in preparation to be birthed. Dopplegangers." he said smoothly, and with a grin added "Dont make a fuss about it either. I know they are hard to control, but they will be in much smaller numbers compared to last time, and Ive tweaked them a bit. They now can't reproduce with other Dopplegangers, so at most, they can only create changlings with the humans."

"As for other races, I've been working on a new species that I think will be a little more....harmless than the Dopplegangers. Leprechauns. Even they will be relatively small in numbers, but I feel they will give this world a good bit more....life."

"When it comes to common races in other worlds, I tend to enjoy the pixies and the Satyrs the most."

He then pulls forth a small lute from one of his many pockets, and begins tuning it as he listens to the other dieties' ideas.

Arpola

In short order, Arpola completes the first 1,000 clockwork humanoids. She then constructs a series of windmills, pumps, and a network of pipes to distribute motive energy to keep them all wound up.

When the first city is built on Mount Primus, she gathers all of her children together and announces to them.

"My Metal Children, you are the first and most blessed of all races! In the many years and eons to come, there will arise other races... creatures made of flesh and blood (its really soft and wet... kind of like mud). Treat these young races with respect and teach them the ways of metal and technology. In the mean time, be ready to spread out and colonize this world. Construct windmills and water wheels and other machines to harness the power of the elements to keep your clockworks wound up. Build roads and canals to travel on and mines to extract precious ore from the earth! Bring me metal so that I and the craftsmen among you may forge more metal parts to replace the worn out ones and make new bodies for me to animate with more clockwork Hearts!"

"You are the Precursors of Oeaurn and you will build monuments and machines that will last forever and inspire awe in the younger races who have yet to be created!"

And at that, the Clockwork Humanoids... now called the Precursors went out and began their divine task. They formed groups to carry out their work.

Mappers traveled out as far as they could from their first city and mapped the land and sought out all resources.

Miners dug the earth for metal and precious gems and sent them to be smelted and cut.

Makers crafted items, constructed, buildings and build new parts for their fellows.

Masters were few and were technically members of the other groups who had greater experience, these ones helped to guide their fellows in their tasks and keep things organized.

And Maulers, the first soldiers in the world... as of yet they had little to do but help their brothers and sisters out but some day they would run into other races and creatures and it would make sense to keep some sort of protection.

After that, Arpola rested and watched her creations as they went about their tasks. She began searching the world herself, checking to see if there were any signs that anything had existed on this world before the Gods had arrived.

Arc

"Thank you, Stigandr. I will not forget."

Arc flickers away to his new land, pulling his hands for his robe and extending his power into the ground below him. Shaping and melding the earth, a few weaknesses and faults began to appear, releasing the heat of the planet's core into the land above. Sand fused, melted and reformed, and rock was briefly replaced with flowing magma. Sealing the faults again, Arc let the land cool (briefly speeding the flow of time in the area) and floated up to observe his handiwork.

{will finish off thei afternoon}

I'm also done and...
Night elves came before precursors. Or so precursors can still be the first race ever, I'll say Luonia made Night elves immediately after the precursors were made.
