View Full Version : Dungeon Crawling Kolla Káta & Morius Wolf-Brother

You and your friend have been looking to lead a life of adventure. One day on your way out of town you spot some bloody footprints and follow them. They lead you to a Dungeon entrance you have never seen before. When you step inside, the door closes behind you and your comrade.

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q299/ramage8504/Entrance.jpg

You entered from the door to your west. There is a campfire, still lit in the middle of the room. There are also torches lit at the entrance to the door to the East and the door to the South. Bloody footprints lead to the door to the East. The illumination in the room is shadowy.

Morius looks around (Spot = [roll0]) and listens intently (Listen = [roll1]) to see if he hears anything. His bow is in his hand with an arrow knocked but not drawn back.

Xealot7

Morius can hear faint whispers in the room to the East, but try as he might, he can't tell what it is.

Gonna wait for Ernir before I do any more.

Ernir

"How about you open the door, quickly step to the side, and I ready to blast if whatever is in there turns out to be hostile?"

peterpaulrubens
2010-03-16, 09:37 PM
"Let's do it!"

STR roll [roll0] to open door, then jumping to the hinge-side when it's open, then using my swift action to shift to wolf form.

Ernir
2010-03-16, 09:58 PM
Kolla backs up to the door we just came through, and prepares to blast away if things look ugly on the other side of the eastern door.

In case whatever is in there is obviously hostile: [roll0] fire damage, 5' radius burst, reflex DC 16 for half damage.

Aim so that the greatest number of baddies is hit without hitting Morius, obviously. :smalltongue:

Also, if required, initiative: [roll1]

peterpaulrubens
2010-03-16, 10:06 PM
LOL whoops. Initiative is good.

Initiative = [roll0]

Also, YAY for posting at 3AM! :smalltongue:

Xealot7
2010-03-17, 05:25 AM
As you open the door, you see two, thoroughly surprised kobolds on the other side. You two get a surprise round. I would tell PPR to go first but... well there are now two very dead kobolds because of the blast. Oh, and the table is on fire but, who cares.

Ernir
2010-03-17, 08:47 AM
"Kobolds. Great. I never knew a kobold that left so much as a cereal box untrapped in his lair, so let's be careful."
*Checks the next door for obvious signs of traps* [roll0]

"Anyway, loot!" Search: [roll1]

"Same plan as last time?"

Xealot7
2010-03-17, 09:04 AM
2 small studded leather armors, 1 small spear, 1 small sling, and 5 smooth stones are all you find of worth on the kobolds. None of the doors or rooms "seem" trapped.

You each earned 75xp.

peterpaulrubens
2010-03-17, 12:49 PM
Divvy up the loot for carrying (we'll split the profit in town after we hock everything)? I'll take an armor and the spear. Morius is now lightly loaded.

Search ([roll0]) on the next door.

"Aye-yup. Why mess with success?"

Morius opens the door, same plan as last time.

Initiative, if needed: [roll1]

Ernir
2010-03-17, 02:50 PM
Kolla takes the sling and stones, and gets into position.

Fire damage: [roll0] (Ref DC 16 for half)
Initiative: [roll1]

Reflex: [roll1]

Through the door a small kitten is engulfed in flames.:smallamused:

Just kidding!

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q299/ramage8504/1E2BedChamber.jpg

You hear the sounds of a rather angry orc, clad in banded mail wielding a spear.

He is standing in the middle of a hex/grace.

That kitten's dynamite! :smallamused:

You hear the sounds of a rather angry orc, clad in banded mail wielding a spear.

He is standing in the middle of a hex/grace.

I'm not going in that pentagram, so on my turn (do we get a surprise round?) I use my swift action to transform back to elf form and try to plunk him with an arrow. [roll0] to hit, [roll1] damage

Xealot7
2010-03-17, 06:56 PM
No, he's heard you coming and has had time to prepare.:smallamused:

The arrow defelcts off of his armor, he chuckles, his hair still singed, and says something in orc as he approaches you and tries to touch Morius.

Cast Defensively: [roll0]
Touch Attack: [roll1]
Damage: [roll2]

Black energy crackles as the touch of Gruumsh is layed upon Morius, darkening his skin and causing it to die.

Will Save DC 13 for half damage.

peterpaulrubens
2010-03-17, 07:05 PM
"Alright boy, you wanna play it rough, we gon' play it rough!"
I'm not sure why, but in my mind, Morius' voice has a distinctive Ozarks accent. Making him, as far as I recall, the only hillbilly/redneck elf I've ever seen.....

Will save: [roll0]

Edit: ah FFS. :smallfurious:

Xealot7
2010-03-17, 07:09 PM
(Yeah, that's the full 5 points of damage I'm afraid.)

The orc just roars in a mix of what appears to be angry, joy, pain and madness, all at the same time.

(Ernir, your turn.)

Ernir
2010-03-18, 03:44 AM
Enlarge Person on Morius!

You are definitely the only 11' elven hillbilly redneck I've seen.

Swift action to change shape into wolf form.

Attack the orc with my nasty sharp pointy teeth: [roll0] to hit, for [roll1] damage.

peterpaulrubens
2010-03-18, 09:17 AM
Bah scratch that damage roll if it hits, it should be d8 when I'm large-sized. [roll0].

But I think I missed a target wearing banded mail. :smallannoyed:

Xealot7
2010-03-18, 09:22 AM
The orc looks somewhat bewildered and the now large, wolf, version of Morius. He decides to fight fire with fire.

(5ft step, Cast enlarge person.)

There is now a Large Wolf and a Large Orc doing battle in the hex.

Ernir
2010-03-18, 11:36 AM
When I'm up:

BAMF! Fire bolt on the nasty orc. [roll0]

I take it my first attack missed?

Also, we shouldn't be in the hex. He advanced on me, by my reckoning I'm still in the room where the kobolds died. I opened the door but I haven't moved inside yet.

Also, as a Large creature, I believe I have reach, so his 5' step still results in an AoO. Right? AoO rolls if needed: [roll0] to hit, [roll1] damage.

On my turn: another attack at him. If I'm confused about having reach, I'll 5' step to get in range, trying to stay outside the pentagram if possible. If he's in range I don't move. [roll2] to hit, [roll3] damage.

Xealot7
2010-03-18, 03:43 PM
I thought you attacked him first in melee, but it was ranged. Ok, so...

Well, it doesn't matter because there is now a dead orc laying in the doorway.

150xp each.

w00t. what was the killing blow?

Cure Light Wounds on myself: [roll0]

Search the room: [roll1]
Search the orc: [roll2]

Ernir
2010-03-18, 07:07 PM
"I think we should move on, while the spell lasts. It'll only be up for a minute, I'm not actually very good at this yet." she says after we have searched the body (search: [roll0]). "The room isn't going anywhere, anyway."

peterpaulrubens
2010-03-18, 08:35 PM
"Mkay. This time I'm not going in, we'll let them come to us. Shoot at them till something comes and then I'll block the door."

[roll0] to open the next door.

Ernir

The killing blow was the AoO.

You can search, or move on, but not both inside of a minutes. The search will take you a few minutes, but if you want to move on, which I think you do, you will have to come back and search.

Entering to the south you enter a well lit room, with large rugs along this large hallway. There are some paints hanging along the walls although they are rather crude and of poor quality.

Aside from the door you entered there is a door to the East and a Door to the West.

peterpaulrubens
2010-03-19, 01:22 PM
Yes, we're moving on while the Enlarge spell lasts, we'll search later.

I vote to go East.

"Same plan as last time, lass! Luck favors the blasty!"

Open the door: [roll0]

Xealot7
2010-03-19, 03:10 PM
I already posted the room you entered two post back.

Ernir
2010-03-19, 04:51 PM
"Huh. An empty room.

Oh, well, at least we have time to finish the search, then."

Search for the last room: [roll0]
Search for new room: [roll1]
(I already rolled one for looting the orc.)

"Should we dare look beneath these carpets?

Xealot7
2010-03-19, 05:04 PM
You don't really notice anything out of place, although there is something weird about the door to the right.

peterpaulrubens
2010-03-19, 06:24 PM
Search for the odd looking door:[roll0]

Xealot7
2010-03-19, 07:50 PM
You can't really see anything wrong with the door. As you go to see if it is unlocked, you can't reach it. It's almost as if a barrier is in front of it, that is preventing you from touching it.

Knowledge Aracana?

Ernir
2010-03-19, 07:55 PM
"Hmm, I may have heard of something like this."

Knowledge: Arcana [roll0]

Xealot7
2010-03-19, 07:56 PM
All you can tell is something magical is keeping you from reaching the door.:smalltongue:

Ernir
2010-03-19, 08:07 PM
"Ooooh, I know what it is! It's magic!"

"Should I blast it, or should we just try another door?"

Also, Xealot7, did the room from before yield any loot?

Xealot7
2010-03-19, 08:22 PM
Well, you didn't stop to search it... you wanted to move on while the enlarge spell was still active.:smalltongue:

peterpaulrubens
2010-03-19, 09:18 PM
I thought we had?

Whatever. The enlarge is done, we search everything we haven't searched.

An overdose of Search rolls:
[roll0]
[roll1]
[roll2]
[roll3]
[roll4]
[roll5]

Ernir
2010-03-20, 08:35 AM

Yeah, and when I saw the next room was empty, I meant to turn back.

No harm. :smalltongue:

Xealot7

On the orc you find banded mail, 1 masterwork spear, 3 spears and 50 gold pieces. On his nightstand you find a book, titled Necronomicon, written in Orcish. Give me a Knowledge History, Religion, or Arcana for more knowledge about this book.

The symbol on the ground is made in blood. You aren't certain but you ascertain that it probably has something to do with the book.

peterpaulrubens
2010-03-20, 11:45 AM
Untrained Knowledge rolls:

History [roll0]
Religion [roll1]
Arcana [roll2]

I'll carry the banded mail and the 3 spears. That puts me *just* under a medium load.

Xealot7
2010-03-20, 12:01 PM
You can tell this book is definitely about necromancy. You can also tell that it has been translated, poorly.

Ernir
2010-03-21, 08:53 AM
Knowledge: Arcana, actually not untrained (Morius maxed out on the untrained ones):
[roll0]

(She speaks Draconic, but not Orcish.)

I take the masterwork spear, the gold is written down in the "party" column on my sheet.

"So, shall we leave the magically sealed door for now, and go through the other the same way we always do?"

Xealot7
2010-03-21, 09:22 AM

You don't learn anything further about the book.

peterpaulrubens
2010-03-21, 11:14 AM
Search the room [roll0]

I use one of the plain spears to flip the rugs over, keeping as far away as I can.

Xealot7
2010-03-21, 12:16 PM
You flip the first rug over, but see nothing.

Ernir
2010-03-21, 01:38 PM
I flip over the next two, borrowing one of the plain spears for the task.

Xealot7
2010-03-22, 03:52 PM
Another search check.

Ernir
2010-03-22, 04:26 PM
Another Search check:
[roll0]

Xealot7
2010-03-22, 04:41 PM
You find nothing.

peterpaulrubens
2010-03-22, 07:03 PM
Through the door at the end of the hallway then, with The Usual Plan:

STR roll to open door: [roll0]

Xealot7
2010-03-22, 07:31 PM
There are two doors at the end of the hallway... East or West?

peterpaulrubens
2010-03-22, 09:42 PM
Straight across from where we entered.

Xealot7
2010-03-23, 10:14 AM
Umm... you entered from the north... so that doesn't help... East or West.

Ernir
2010-03-23, 10:19 AM
[roll0]

West if 1, east if 2. :smalltongue:

Xealot7
2010-03-23, 10:21 AM
You enter a dark hallway with doors to the North and the South.

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q299/ramage8504/1S1DarkHallway.jpg

Ernir
2010-03-23, 11:51 AM
"Ooo. Spooky."

I fire off a Dancing Lights. Do we see anything else in this hallway?

If not, I say we go South, with Standard Entrance Procedure.

peterpaulrubens
2010-03-23, 02:15 PM
Umm... you entered from the north... so that doesn't help... East or West.

Doh! Sorry, I was totally confused about where we'd come from. I thought we'd entered from the left/west side of the map.

When the Dancing Lights run out, I will use one of my Sunrods if necessary.

Xealot7
2010-03-23, 03:38 PM
When you enter, the room is lit much better. Inside you see a well. There are hundreds of gold coins at the bottom. You here a voice that says. "Gold".

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q299/ramage8504/1S2WaterChamber.jpg

Ernir
2010-03-23, 08:21 PM
"Eh, after you. I've never been much of a swimmer."

"And be careful, FFS. Smells like trap if it ever has."

peterpaulrubens
2010-03-23, 09:50 PM
Listen [roll0] to determine where the voice came from.

Look [roll1] into the water for any signs of inhabitants.

Search [roll2] the rest of the room, staying well clear of the pool for now.

"What do you think Kolla... shall I send some summoned friends into the water first?"

Xealot7
2010-03-24, 10:02 AM
You can tell the voice came from in the water, although you don't see anything in the water. You find nothing else of interest or value.

Ernir
2010-03-24, 02:57 PM
"What do you think Kolla... shall I send some summoned friends into the water first?"

"Sounds like a plan."

peterpaulrubens
2010-03-24, 03:58 PM
With my bow at the ready, I use my spontaneous casting with my Magic Fang spell to Summon Nature's Ally (a wolf). I have it appear right in the middle of the pool.

Xealot7
2010-03-24, 04:18 PM
Swim Check for the wolf?:smallconfused:

peterpaulrubens
2010-03-24, 10:28 PM
Okay, but honestly if it sinks it's probably just as good for our purposes.

[roll0]

Edit: LOL FFS. I guess it's sinking!

Ernir
2010-03-25, 08:15 AM
Okay, but honestly if it sinks it's probably just as good for our purposes.

[roll0]

Edit: LOL FFS. I guess it's sinking!

I'd say that's a truly brilliant time for a nat-1.

Xealot7
2010-03-25, 10:21 AM
The wolf dies, a completely horrific death, between the water, and whatever it is in the water. Your not sure if it died from drowning, but regardless, the summoned wolf is no more.

Whatever is in the water is not moving, but you here the eerie voice again.

"Gold".

peterpaulrubens
2010-03-25, 04:37 PM
"Ehh.. let's go. No matter how much gold might be in there, a dead man is never a rich man."

Ernir
2010-03-26, 08:39 AM
"Ehh.. let's go. No matter how much gold might be in there, a dead man is never a rich man."

"I agree. Backtrack! Across the hall, let's try the other room first.

Xealot7
2010-03-26, 09:56 AM
The hallway takes you back into the room you first entered.

Ernir
2010-03-26, 04:20 PM
Huh.

I propose we continue backtracking until we find a door we haven't opened. And then go through that. :smalltongue:

peterpaulrubens
2010-03-26, 09:06 PM
"Works for me."

On vacation for a week so I'm not sure what my posting time will look like. Should be able to squeeze in some though. I'll follow your lead on whatever mundane "where are we going/what are we doing" activities.

peterpaulrubens
2010-03-30, 02:13 PM
Here I am posting and we've done nothing, oh noes! :smalleek:

Ernir
2010-03-30, 07:10 PM
Here I am posting and we've done nothing, oh noes! :smalleek:

Yah.

So, do we find a door?

Xealot7
2010-04-03, 09:47 AM
You make it back to this room. There is a door to the East you have not been through yet. There is an aura of magic, almost like a barrier that is barring the door.

Ernir
2010-04-03, 06:21 PM
"Hey, Morius, stay clear. I'm going to try blasting the door up."

Fire on the door! [roll0]

peterpaulrubens
2010-04-03, 10:37 PM
If that doesn't work, I say we head back to town to rest up, freshen our spells, and sell our loot

Xealot7
2010-04-04, 08:19 AM
The fire blasts back into your face, causing no damage but doing none to the barrier either.

peterpaulrubens
2010-04-05, 03:55 PM
Ugh. Town?

Ernir
2010-04-05, 07:40 PM
Agreed. =(

peterpaulrubens
2010-04-07, 07:47 PM
Ok, we go back to town and sell our l00t.

How much do we get?

Ernir
2010-04-12, 03:41 PM
Any news on this front? =/
