You find yourself in a featurless room with no sign of any exit. You can see before you a some sort of giant he is preparing to attack, defend yourself !

Roll for initiative !

Initiative of the creature: [roll0]
Edit: You apparently can't roll in the first post of a thread, ah well I rolled elsewhere: Initiative 15

You can use any ressource you want and you don't have to worry about any bystander.

Initiative: [roll0]

As a swift action, Thane will cast Mage Armor on himself, and as a standard action, he will cast Greater Invisibility on himself. He will move from M7 to H10.

On a side note, I really like the grid system idea. I vote you use it.

I always use this type of map, they're not that easy to create particulary if there lot of thing on the map but to use they're very practical.

I have to ignore your action because the giant won initiative:
But will assume you have any long term buff already in place (hour/level or more)

The giant act first and move in J6 K7 and attack with his Greataxe

Attack roll:[roll0]
Damage roll: [roll1]

Now it's your turn.

Since he won initiative for last round, I would have made a 5 ft. step back and then cast those spells.

Ok, so, now he is invisible, Thane will step up and cast Shivering Touch on the Giant. Shivering Touch is, unsurprisingly, a melee touch attack. If it hits, it deals 3d6 Dex damage.

[roll0]
[roll1]

If he drops to 0 Dex, then I guess I win.

zagan
2010-03-19, 12:52 PM
First he get a round to try and find you, please only one round per post otherwise it get confusing.

Spot check: DC 20

If succesfull he five foot step in K6 L7 and attack blindy in your square:
Attack roll: [rolll]1d20+18
Miss chance: [roll1] Miss on a 1 hit on 2
Damage:[roll2]

Edit: He can't find you, so after your attack take 5 dex damage, its his turn again.

Move to attack, then
[roll0]

zagan
2010-03-19, 01:01 PM
And it's on the ground and you can kill it ! Very nice, first time I've seen the famous shivering touch in play and it's interesting.
I won't ban it but I hope it's not your only strategy.

Want to try again against another monster ?

Arq Kujos
2010-03-19, 01:07 PM
Shivering Touch has a number of weaknesses to go with it. It is affected by Spell resistance, it doesn't work on anything with the cold subtype, and I do have to make a melee touch attack.

No, my main strategy is to use my spells to boost my impressive melee abilities. Things like Greater Invisibility, Enlarge Person, Bull Strength, and Displacement.

I do have a few offensive abilities, like Orb of Force and Blade of Force, but those are mostly spells for emergencies.

And yes, let's go again. I've finally broken my terrible rolling streak! Thank you so much.

zagan
2010-03-19, 01:13 PM
Okay let's go then:
You find yourself in a featurless room with no sign of any exit. You can see before you a some sort of humanoid tiger dresse in quality clothing he is preparing to attack, defend yourself !

Roll for initiative !

Initiative of the creature: [roll0]

You can use any ressource you want and you don't have to worry about any bystander.

I will probably go eat soon so don't be surprise if they're a delay in my response shortly.

Regardless of who wins Initiative: I'm going to start off, assuming mage armor is already cast, with Sound Lance. It targets the tigerman, and it is Fortitude for half damage on a save of 17. It deals 10d8 of Sonic damage.

[roll1]

I'll then move 15 feet in a straight line towards the target.

zagan
2010-03-19, 02:02 PM
You lose initiative again, I must insist that you post your action only if you win iniative double post if need.

You see the tigerman move into G7 and then casting a spell (spellcraft to identify DC18)

Make a will save DC 16 (mind affecting if it mater)

After that he adresse you, "You look fatigued my friend perhaps you could take a nap. I'll protect you while you sleep."

Ok, I win the Will Save.

"No my friend, I think not. Why don't you save yourself some serious trouble and surrender now, before things turn very bad for you."

This is win he will cast Sound Lance.

zagan
2010-03-19, 02:29 PM
Okay, first make caster level check to see if he's affect. (I forget to ask)
I'll roll the save just in case: [roll0]

He cast a spell (spellcraft DC 17) and disappear becoming invisible.
After that you don't know where he is anymore.

When I mentionned the standard action it was just so you remember that you can use it to cast spell for example.

Okay you see the magical aura in A15.

You hear muttering characteristic of spell casting once again comming from there, the creature reapper and four dart of energy strike you. (yes even if your invisible)

Take [roll0] Force damage

The creature doesn't move.

So he can see me and bypass my 50% miss chance? Sounds like True Seeing to me.

Thane will move 3 squares south and 3 squares east to H8, in and attempt to box him in. Then, he will cast Fireball.

Save is 17, Reflex based, and damage is 10d6.

You forget the spell resistance.
I will still roll: ref save: [roll0] (It wasn't enough)

He cast the same spell again:
Take [roll1] (still force damage)

And why he would need to see you to cast magic missile, he doesn't need an attack roll and your the only other creature in the room. Displacement dont apply for the same reason.

You need a line of sight to cast magic missile. Being Invisible gives me full concealment. None of those magic missiles should have been able to harm me unless he could spot me somehow, be it True Seeing or See Invisibility spell.

Also, I will now cast magic missile, and my has 5 missiles.

[roll0]

Then I move L10.

Here is yet another caster level check. [roll1]

Damn his spell resistance.

zagan
2010-03-19, 03:54 PM
Nowhere in the description of invisibilty does it stat that you gain total concealement. This seem weird to me, I will go ask in the Q&A thread

Arq Kujos
2010-03-20, 10:34 AM
Sweet. To be honest, I was kinda worried. That was tough. Very tough. Damn SR to hell!

Yeah, to be honest, I've been analyzing Thane, and that is where I fear his weakness is. As long as I can get my blade on my foe, few things can stand against me. I just don't have a lot to deal with groups. Basically I have Fireball and invisibility.

But yeah, let's give it a go. This has been great fun. As for tacocat, I'm really sorry she hasn't been on much, but she really has been sick.

Without giving much away, she wants to worship this primal, dragon god. And the kicker is that this god would be an enemy of Ardal, or at least strong strong rival. This all her idea, which blew me away. The general idea is that when Ardal went away, he scoped up some of his followers. Now, as for why she would be working with me, what is worse than losing a rival before you could beat them yourself? He wants his rival back, and when all is said and done, Big Red (my nickname for the dragon until he gets a real name) is going to want the rematch of the millennium. 10 rounds, knockout, Thunderdome style, two gods enter, one god leaves kinda stuff. And guess which pair of tragic lovers gets caught up as the pawns for this divine showdown?:smallamused:

So bring on the minions and tell me what you think.

So bring on the minions and tell me what you think.

That's an interesting idea, but I'm not sure that the rivalry should go too far for three reason:
1: To be rival in anything they must have some point in common to rivalise over probably one or more domain in common.
2: For the same reason the can't have an alignement too far otherwise they would be enemy no rival. So the dragon could be at worst Chaotique neutral.
3: Finally for the reason already given if he manage to scoop some follower they couldn't have been enemy otherwise very few people would have switch side.

So I can see a rivalry friendly at time, heated on occasion, but with lot of respect betwen the two.

As a consequence, if she like that angle, I might see the dragon god wnating to aquire and use the sword in memory of his rival as a way to honore him.
In consequence he would oppose any "misguide" attempt by some "fool" to resurect him by using the sword.

But I'll discuss thing further with her in the planning thread when she got better.

Now on to the fight:

You find yourself in a featurless room with no sign of any exit. You can see before you two weird and big bird, they are preparing to attack, defend yourself !

Roll for initiative !

Bird 2: [roll1]

Edit: I've made a tiny tiny error on the map the bird are large size creature. I will correct it. Sorry.

Arq Kujos

I didn't realize he flew back up to 30 ft. My bad.

Instead, then I guess I will ranged attack him with a Fireball in the air.

DC 17 to avoid for half.

[roll0]

Do I need to make a caster check?

zagan
2010-03-20, 12:10 PM

First, I just noticed I made an error. I don't know fireball. I know Lesser orb of fire. I put fireball down, but it was as a second level spell, not 3rd. I changed it to lesser orb of fire to be fair. Sorry. Not like it broke the game or anything.

OK, lets take a break from all the Ranged Touch attacks.

Greater Invisibility.

Then, I move 4 squares right.

zagan
2010-03-20, 12:30 PM
Well I will assume that you somehow manage to use one fireball and in exchange you forget about this unfortunate mistake with magic missile, deal ? :smallwink:

Both bird try to pinpoint your location: (here (http://dungeons.wikia.com/wiki/SRD:Invisibility) the revelant rule)
Bird 2:
(Move action) Spot check: [roll0] (DC 20)
(Free action) Listen check: [roll1] (DC 20 + your move silently check I assume 10 for this round, so total 30)

Bird 1:
(Move action) Spot check: [roll2] (DC 20)
(Free action) Listen check: [roll3]

But with their modifier in spot we can assume that they can pinpoint your spot as move action each round. So both bird attack, of course you still get the miss chance. edit: (Of course next round you could hold still so the DC become 30)

Bird 2 ray attack: [roll4]
Miss chance: [roll5] Miss on a 1, Hit on a 2
Damage: [roll6]

Bird 1 ray attack: [roll7]
Miss chance: [roll8] Miss on a 1, Hit on a 2

Yeah, lucky that I read my character sheet. I totally forgot about those Abjurant Champion abilities. Yay reading!

Ok, so, I still have two Orbs of Force left, 4 more second level slots I can burn, 6 3rd slots, and should be 5 more magic missiles. Well hot damn, I may, emphasis on MAY, be able to pull this off.

Ok, burn another second level spell as a swift action to get resist electricity 10 again, then magic missile for the win.

No you kill it with the AOO.

Well you manage to defeat two CR 8 creature, it cost you lot spell slot and at the end it was a close thing but you did it.
I hope it will teach you to remember your own class features and perhaps you should look into a way to fly.

I think we can stop here for the moment, unless you want to test something else ?

Arq Kujos
2010-03-20, 02:58 PM
Yeah, I think this has given me a good idea as to the power of my character. I'll try to take Fly next level to counter foes like this who can evade my reach physically. Force blade helps me against incorporeal and ethereal creatures, and I get True Seeing at 12, so, those should help as well. Still, I'm glad I had a few offensive spells to help.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with my character's performance. Wouldn't you agree?

zagan
2010-03-20, 03:03 PM
Yes it was very good, I will need to be carefull with my encounter so as to give you a challenge but not overwhelm Tacocat.

Arq Kujos
2010-03-20, 03:07 PM
Don't worry too much about that. While yes, she is new, I'll be there to help coach her at first and I helped her build her character. It was her idea to play a barbarian druid, but I gave her the push to Master of Many Forms. She'll be very powerful, also. She just doesn't yet know how to wield this power. I'll help her with that, though. I think those fights were very challenging. Especially the 2nd fight. The first fight was admittedly easy, and the third was more annoying that hard, (Damn flyers) but the second really required me to out think my opponent. To be fair, I had planned on using Shivering touch for big things like dragons and giants, so that fight exactly like I thought it would. Overall, they all good fights. Nothing like some mock combat to really get the juices flowing.
