So, I've discovered that my preferred power level is Tier 2. What suggestions can you all think of for equalizing the 11 base classes in core to Tier 2? In other words, bringing the the less powerful classes up to Tier 2 and the more powerful classes down to Tier 2?

For Wizards, Clerics, and Druids, I'd impose heavy restrictions on Spells Known.

Maybe allow partial Gestalt for those in Tier 3 and below (3 with any 5, 4 with any 4 or 5). Encourage ToB classes as the "standard" for melee types.

This (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/spontaneousDivineCasters.htm) will drop Clerics and druids pretty much into tier 2.

I'd suggest using the Penny Dreadfuls' War-Marked (https://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0AYdLcxsM7Nx0ZGc2NzhibjNfNjRoZDJucWtocw&hl=en) for the melee types. It's designed to sit around Tier 2.

Question is, do you want everyone to have tier 2 abilities, or would you allow for a diverse enough market that a potential +/-1 comes up? If so, would you rather place your average at tier 3?

Also, are you opposed to non-original base classes? Can these be substituted in to aid the balance, or are you more trying to balance core to tier 2?

Wouldn't you also need the PHII variant of wild shape.

If we want to bring in the PHB2 classes as well. it'd take a lot of bring the Dragon Shaman into tier 3. The Knight would take a decent amount of work. The Duskblade really just needs a more diverse spell list. The beguiler needs a little bit of work, again probably with a more diversified spell list.

Unfortunately that pretty much excludes any melee types. With some the PsyWar could be tier 2, but even ToB classes would need some extra out of combat tricks. Make the swordsage full BaB and add a bunch of utility maneuvers to the disciples and I think you could do it.

I believe it sit around the ToS tier 2. Not huge, but it is a difference.
