View Full Version : Clarifying Sheathing
In the Drawing/Sheathing weapon section in the 3.5 PHB, its only actual wording refers to Drawing rules.
Does this mean that sheathing a weapon takes exactly the same action (so an opposite and equal effect?)
So for example, normally, with a BAB of 0, you would need a move action, no movement to sheathe your weapon.
Or if you have quick draw, you can sheathe your weapon as a free action?
One too many assumptions?

Drawing a weapon so that you can use it in combat, or putting it away so that you have a free hand, requires a move action.
Sheathing a weapon requires a move action.
Quick Draw refers only to drawing a weapon, so I wouldn't have it apply to sheathing one.

See table. (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/combat/actionsInCombat.htm#moveActions) Drawing or sheathing requires a move action. You can draw on the move if your BAB is +1 or higher. You can draw as a free action if you have Quick Draw (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/feats.htm#quickDraw). Neither of those effects says anything about sheathing. Also, sheathing provokes an AoO; drawing does not.

You can hide a light weapon on your body as a free action with a sufficiently high Sleight of Hand (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=142080) check.
The Gnome Quickrazor can be sheathed as a free action.

If a player can make an attack vs AC 20 I'll let them sheathe their weapon as a free action. If they mess up they cut their hand. And yes I made that up just now. :smallcool:
