When a player plays an outsider, can it be killed, or does it go to it's own plane of existence after going to 0 HP. Does anybody know the rules about that.

Friendly Greetings,

Depends on the Outsider, although even the ones that reform on their home plane are barred from entering the Prime Material for so long they might as well be dead for gameplay purposes.

IIRC, "native" outsiders die just like any other native to the Material Plane.

Outsiders are actually an umbrella of different kinds of creatures.
Some Outsiders lack duality, meaning thier bodies and souls are a single unit, meaning they shouldn't leave a body when they die, as they should return to their home plane. which kind of conflicts with the one in the middle.

Outsiders also cover ascended humanoids, like gods and high level monks.
The whole native extraplanar thing is misleading because in some source material rakshasas and coatl are immortal creatures that do not eat though they reside on the prime material. While azers who live on the plane of fire are also native.

summoned outsiders are sort of just using planar energy in the form of something living, from the summon spell you have complete control over it, however when outsiders use the summoned monster spells it seems as though these creatures aren't under their control and owe them a favor for summoning them. Due to inconsistencies due to many writers over a large period of time the mythologies on outsiders clashes. Apparently in the FC it is said that you can only kill an outsider on it's home plane which doesn't make any sense and does not draw this from any mythology. One would think gating an outsider and killing it would kill it for good. There are stupid rules on how long a devil takes to respawn vs a demon.

A "Native Outsider" is an Outsider who is also mortal. It has nothing to do with being Extraplanar. Everything is Extraplanar when it's on the wrong plane.

Let's say we are talking about an Ghaele on the Prime Material Plane from the plane of Celestia.

A Ghaele wouldn't come from Celestia.

And Ghaele are Eladrin, which die permanently if they're killed. (They also reproduce sexually, unlike some Outsiders.)

In the Eberron campaign setting it clearly says that night hags are both native outsiders and immortal, and it's a WOTC book.

I'm using "mortal" in the way it applies to Elans, Counter.
