I'm wondering if anyone out there has worked with NoSQL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nosql) databases.

*Scratches head*. I confess that I'm a little perplexed as to the buzz surrounding them. I remember when relational databases were the 'next big thing' , replacing file databases and all the rest of it. A bajillion different architectures and access methodologies. We replaced it with a single somewhat coherent data model and a single mostly-compatible data access methodology -- a query language which allowed data definition and data manipulation.

NoSQL seems to be -- file databases, graph databases, again each with no consistent access methodology.

Am I missing something? It seems to me we're rolling back the clock to the 1960s and fighting the same battle all over again when relational databases were, if not great, at least adequate for most needs.

Is there a NoSQL evangelist out there who'd like to give me the good news? :) I'm old and skeptical.

Respectfully,

Brian P.
