What could you do about the Half Dragon Template (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/halfDragon.htm) to reduce the level adjustment to 0? The first answer that springs to mind is reduce the stat bonuses, but what else would make it a cool and fun template at LA +0 or LA +1 at most?

I submit this question to the forums, AKA those that are much much much better at this sort of thing than me.

Take Dragonborn template instead?
Both give Breath weapon. (but no immunity for Dragonborn)

Dragonborn of Bahamut from Races of the Dragon is everything that template ever wanted to be. You could make Draconic Dragonborn to get claws and some additional abilities at LA +1, but honestly, the stat bonuses are really fairly unnecessary; just the draconic abilities is what a Half-Dragon needs. So it feels like you're playing a Half-Dragon, not a Dwarf or an Elf.

Firebreathing, Wings, tough scales and draconic senses. Just like Dragonborn, though obviously you can only pick one out of three (and gain Wings through feats if you so desire).

EDIT: Sigh. Ok, THIS ninja I didn't see coming. I guess that's 'cause he's a ninja.
