Any tips on drawing avatar weapons?

There's always the tip of "find one in the comic, copypaste it and trace over."

As with the avatars, keep them simple - selling the idea of a weapon works well enough.

I would search Pandorapedia (http://www.pandorapedia.com/) for information on weapons used by avatars. I think Jake Sully has been depicted to have used:

Direhorse bow. (http://www.pandorapedia.com/navi/war_hunting/direhorse_bow_neytiri_and_jake_bow)
Battle Arrow (http://www.pandorapedia.com/navi/war_hunting/arrow_battle_0)
Banshee Catcher (http://www.pandorapedia.com/navi/war_hunting/banshee_catcher_0)
GS-221 30-Caliber Light Machine Gun (http://www.pandorapedia.com/human_operations/weapons/gs_221_30_caliber_light_machine_gun)
RDA Grenades (http://www.pandorapedia.com/human_operations/weapons/rda_grenades)

Well the lines should be thicker. The lines are also blatantly paint rather than vector (it's the way they uh... make stairs). You may want to check out inkscape (there is a tutorial somewhere around here that is quite good).

As for the weapons, not that hard. Draw a triangle for the blade, warp the triangle, make a "body" hilt and guard are just more warped boxes.

Theres one here
(http://trazoi.net/tutorials/inkscape/oots/index.html) and also jeneral help tutorials on inkscape itself.

Look for Gorbash's Templates.
He made one for "Wardrobe", "Armory", and "Body Shop".

I've seen the body ones, but not the Wardrobe and Armoy ones.

You got the scythe blade properly proportioned though, and that is dastardly difficult to do.

We Paint-users have to draw the avatars much bigger than standard (400x400 pixel box to start) and then shrink then down with IrfanView so the lines don't look blocky.

Wait. You do them in Paint?

And in a 400 x 400 box?

I didn't know you were a Paint-atarist.

And I use 600x to 700x pixels.

EDIT: Here's a gift for you. It's partially from me (since it took me some time to find), and from Gorbash Kazdar (because he made 'em).

Lastly, just wanted to toss up the current views of my template/object files since people seem to like seeing them. I ask that people not cut/resize pieces from them, please - if you want to use it as a drawing guide, by all means feel free, but I've seen a few things where I'm fairly sure individual objects have been cut and trimmed from these images to make them.

Anyways, they're sizable images (dimensions, not file size) so under spoilers.

So, here are the templates.

I can officially say: [/thread]

There's something in inkscape that lets you convert things to inkscape shapes, right? I would love to have those weapons.

Yes there is, Mr. Ten-Year. Yes there is.
But if I were doing such thing, I would prefer to re-do them myself, rather than transforming them in Inkscape.

Which reminds me I have to get another copy of Inkscape if I wanna start avataring again.

I'd only use some stuff, i'm not totaly gonna rip off such an apparent master. How would I convert it?

So, are we making weapons for avatars, or making weapons from Avatar?

CrimsonAngel

Argh, just tell me how to do it; i'm all out of patience juice.

Okay, maybe that wasn't the best way to say it.
