This guy could turn out to be a returning character so I'd like him to be pretty well put together. He is one of those guys who likes to see how magic effects people so I'm thinking a trasmutation specialist. He is amoral not sadistic (he'd love it if his arcane dabbling did not rip the subject to shreads but if it happens then he's more "what have we learned" than "OMG what have I done"

What I am looking for mostly is feats and spells. I have told the players to try to keep to one or two classes and not to pull really crazy stuff from obscure books. So to be fair I'll try and do the same (hence no grafting or Fleshwarper.) I'm thinking about making him a straight wizard. Spells and feats on the other hand I allow from pretty much anywhere.

I'm thinking 14th level or so.

If anyone has a wizard character in that range that they'd be willing to let me look at that would work too.

Thanks for any help.

I've got a focused necromancer who's level 11 I can email you if you wish. Beyond that, I've got nothing in the range, sorry dude.

Up-level this (http://groups.google.com/group/rec.games.frp.dnd/browse_thread/thread/dac31a3776a8b4c3?pli=1) to level 9 or so and he'd be a decent CR 14 challenge.

Hmm...Mad Scientist. I see you don't want Fleshwarper, but it fits so well I will include an example anyway. Don't worry, it won't be the only idea.

N Human Transmuter 5/Blood Magus 4/Fleshwarper 5 (casts as 13th level Wizard)
feats: Great Fortitude (human), Toughness (1), Scribe Scroll (Wiz 1), Craft Wonderous Items (3), Craft Magic Arms and Armor (6), Graft Flesh (9), Craft Construct (12); 1 open Wiz bonus feat

Nothing says Mad Scientist like a Flesh Golem! You could also use a Changling for the racial substitution levels (dual specialist Illusion/Transmutation, Morphic Familiar). The build still works, but uses the Wiz 5 bonus feat to make up for the lost human bonus feat.

If you don't mind using material from Dragon Magazine Comendium, both the Flux Adept and Osteomancer are Mad Scientist-y, though they are more gish than pure spellcaster.

Transmuter 5/Blood Magus 4/Flux Adept 5 (casts as 12th level Wizard)
feats: Great Fortitude (human), Toughness (1), Scribe Scroll (Wiz 1), Endurance (3)
6, 9, 12, and Wiz 5 bonus open (can be used for Craft Construct and its prereqs or use a non-human race)
