How do I price a staff with chosen spells? The closest I have come to figuring out costs on them is to do an average of two custom magic item rules for creating magic items.

I'm coming into about 160k (end of an arc at level 16), and feel a staff might be nice.

Or were you looking for something else more specifically?

I was using the pathfinder rules, which has nothing on staves. I really should have thought this through and looked it up on D20srd.

Hmm. Those rules fail to make staves on either SRD. Figures. However, thank you.

Well uh, linku (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/equipment---final/magic-items#TOC-Creating-Staves).

What are you trying to do?

I dunno, make a staff of some form. Probably just a bunch of buffs.

Figures. http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/magicItems/magicItemCreation.html
I looked at the chart, but didn't scroll far enough down to find they had it for staves.

In essence:

(375gp, 15xp, and 3 hours of work) each multiplied by the spell level times the caster level.

You run that calculation for each spell, and halve the result for any spell that costs 2 charges to cast.

Then you go back through the costs you calculated and put them in descending order. Reduce the second entry on the list by 25%, and all of the entries after that by 50%.

Add the adjusted costs together, then add in any supplemental costs for duplicating a spell with an XP cost or gp cost.

Staves are ridiculously expensive, since they are priced as if each individual spell could be cast 50 times instead of having 50 charges shared between all of the spells.
