Working on the lead villian for my campaign that im working on.

Im thinking of making it a horribly evil race

Wizard/Blood Magus from 3.0

What do yall think?

Level 22ish boss...but gonna be a long time till they finally reach him.

If you make him a member of a horribly evil race, you're going to have to have him do some some pretty repugnant things in order to make him stand out. Just be sure you're comfortable with that.

im comfortable with it heh.

well so far he is 12 wizard/10 blood magus...thinking on mixing things up while i go through these books to see some more prcs for him.

Archmage would probably go a treat instead of a few extra wizard levels.
Maybe Archmage 3.
Could do focused specialist (assuming you're specializing). I think you can enter that after wiz 3, then carry long enough to enter most arcane PrC

Well right now I only need 5 levels of wizard to get to blood magus...need 10 levels of that for the jump ability and all the features it grants me...im tempted to focus in evoking....

so thats 15 of the 22...

Gnome.

Nothing else is such an abomination against all that is good and right in the world.

Tainted Scholar from Heroes of Horror actually gets most of the Blood Magus's abilities, ends up a lot stronger, and is actually rather terrifying by fluff. I'd recommend you look into that.

I recommend you do some reading and NOT dnd books.

Book of Vile Darkness will help make an excellent character, but there is other books outside of dnd I think you may want to look at when trying to make a villain.

I happen to be a fan of horror stories, and evil doers; so I would recommend you read Stephn King. Anything by him kind of get the evil mind set the way he express's evil is very different from of course other villains. Evil is generally stupid I must say but when utilized correctly evil can be really scary when used right. I would take the time spent in the dungeon to learn as much about their characters as possible to figure out good nasty surprises for each. You should try book of vile stuff too if you really wanna get evil

So far he is in the making and not from dnd books personality...he is a true villian.

ill look into that heroes of horror book also.

looked at tainted scholar and its powerful and all...but i dont think it will fit the character im making....I like the blood travel ability of the magus so that he can appear "anywhere" and poses more of a threat.

Yes pure evil is the best way to go... you could use Red Wizard and Vile Spell Meta Magic from book of vile make half your attacks damage vile damage which means they cant heal it unless they are in a holy place of some sort. Like a REALLY REALLY REALLY holy place

Paul S Kemp, author of the Erevis Cale trilogy writes very believable villains.
They're not like RA Salvatore, where an evil cleric wishes his/her compatriots "Evil dreams brethren." That's stupid evil, on the level of Bizarro.

Hey, some men don't just want to see the world burn--they want to burn the world. Sure, Salvatore doesn't go about it well, but it should be possible to make a villain who devotes himself not only to an evil cause, but to the cause of evil.

Blood Travel is just a weird Greater Teleport.

And if he's epic, he'll have epic teleportation that can probably smash through anti-teleport measures.

Blood Travel's not that great, really.

Word of advice about Tainted Scholar though: If you don't want to crush the players, don't optimise it (unless they're using similar cheese, but that's unlikely). It's easy to get save DCs from Tainted Spellcasting that no PC can make without a nat 20 (infinity only takes a little work). And a Tainted Scholar just about never runs out of spells.

You can do that without Tainted Scholar, as well.

He can only ever use bloodwalk once per day. Multiple preparations or scrolls of teleport would be much more dangerous. You can simply reflavor his teleportation as erupting out of another person's blood in the same way, making him appear beside another living creature. (The only advantage is that Bloodwalk is (Su), and it doesn't provoke AOOs.)

True. But Tainted Scholar makes it a lot easier. One level in one class and one weird ritual, and you're ZAD.

The idea for the blood travelling was simply because it would make for good entry/exit thats why i chose blood magus...also all those scars make for a good look..and he can still maintain his riches with that blood for regeants thing.....on another note Im not optimising and neither are my players for control reasons of course.

I think that if he has minions out and about within distance and he jumps in and out of them as a movement would make it hard to get him..and is there and evil guy out there that wouldnt want to explode out of someones body?

It's cool, but he can only use it once per day. Again you could do the same thing more often by using teleport and instead of having him simply appear, have him burst out of a minion (bloodwalk doesn't kill the target anyway).

Tainted Scholar gets the same Blood Component ability AND Blooded Metamagic. The Blood Draughts and Scarification are a different thing altogether, but I guess if you really wanted those you could simply have him covered with scars (taint disfigures the guy anyway).

He's a Wizard; it's hard to avoid making him strong anyway. You could still take the first few levels of Blood Magus and keep Tainted Scholar; a couple of levels in it is enough, really.

That's the thing---Bloodwalk is a standard action to use and is usable only once per day.

Yes just be very careful if you use that book... going far too evil to the point where the players actually get scared can be bad... and yes I've done that, a lot.
