Hi! In the next few weeks I'll be seeing some of my RPG-playing friends that I don't have a chance to see too often, and I've been thinking about playing a one-shot adventure.

I wouldn't mind playing it with no system at all, or with a quick made homebrew one, but I believe they would prefer to play with a published system.
The problem is: most systems take quite a bit of time by themselves - character creations, die rollings, etcetera; and/or aren't really meant for one-shot adventures.

I remember that I've once read one particular book directed at quick plays like those, but I can't for the love of me remember the name of it.
So, if anyone can suggest me some good systems that are quick to setup and quick to play, I'd be glad. Extra glad if they aren't setting-specific. I'm currently thinking about using the Nemesis (http://www.nemesis-system.com/index.php) System.

Thanks in davance!

RISUS (http://www222.pair.com/sjohn/risus.htm) seems to be right up your alley. Characters fit on an index card and can be made in a minute. Two, if you're indecisive.

For something more social, try Wuthering (http://www.unseelie.org/rpg/wh/index.html) Heights (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BW3gKKiTvjs). The focus is more on social situations and how depressing everything is and less on combat... though I have personally seen more character deaths in the Wuthering Heights system than under every other system combined. Maybe I just have weird players.

Use Nemesis, it works beautifully. Otherwise Risus, Wushu, Fudge.

Risus is good and fun, and can be adapted to a lot of different genres easily. Not to down others, but I've liked Risus a lot.
