The hill was a lone and foreboding intrusion upon the desert upon which it was placed. Somewhere underneath it lay a labyrinthine crypt filled with terrible traps and not a few strong and ferocious monsters to slay the unwary.
Rich treasures both precious and magical fill the crypt but in addition to the aforementioned traps and guardians, some say that the demilich Acererak still protects his ancient treasure troves. Although the time Acererak last strode amongst the living was long ago, tales are still told of his formiddable magical power that made him nearly undefeatable.

The precise location of Acererak's tomb had been lost of history, until now. A recent archaological discovery had pinpointed the tomb to be underneath this lonely desert hill.
The Newport Archaological Society scrounged together whatever money it had to pay a group of adventurers to enter the tomb and find their way to the great treasure hoard said to be located in Acererak's final resting place.
[/backstory]

The party has arrived at the site. It is a low flat-topped hill about 200 yards wide and 300 yards long. Ugly desert weeds and thorns grow upon the steep sides and bald top of the 60-foot high mound. The hilltop is crowned by a curious assortment of large black rocks.

The north side of the hill is fronted by a sudden 20 foot cliff of sand and gravel. A low clearly man-made stone ledge overhangs this eroded area but shrubs and bushes obscure it from observation at a distance.

Travan parts his way through the bushes and desert scrubs covering the flat side of the hill. The stonework remnants tell him the entrance must have been located in this part of the hill. Despite this, Travan finds nothing telling him where the entrance is.

Could be unstable ground ye be trompin' on or worse yet traps set ta snare any careless passersby! Lemme take a look." Higgins then proceeds to pull his thick goggles dwon from where they rest upon his head and over his eyes and begins a thurough search of the area.

Higgins' expert eye and deduction eventually reveal not one but two entrances buried under the sand. After brushing away the sand, the archways are revealed but the doorways are blocked by a thick sand drift.

After a bit more poking around, he comes to the conclusion that while fully clearing out a doorway would take four people and an hour and a half's work, a smaller crawlspace tunnel could be dug through it by two people in about fifteen minutes.

Evan begins to dig the sand of the entrance that would take a longer time to uncover. If either one of the entrance was a trap, then it would most likely be the one that was easier to enter.

@Bue52: Evan looks through the tunnel into the darkness beyond. He determines that the tunnel is safe and there does not appear to be anything suspicious on the other side of the tunnel.

@Lin: Timble runs through the tunnel easily before stopping to look and search more cautiously. He has emerged at the start of a dark corridor. It is made of brick and stone. The stone is roughly worked and ugly. At the far end of the corridor, he is just able to make out that the corridor ends in a brick wall with two closed oaken doors set into it.
He searches for any traps down his end of the corridor and find nothing.

@Drager0: Bard concentrates on if he had ever heard anything about the tomb before. He remembers an old legend that those who had displeased Acererak had no afterlife to look forward to. Those who dared to face him were doomed to have their souls be imprisoned forever in eternal torment.
It wasn't very comforting.

Lin searches the new wall, looking for a way past it to the doors she saw earlier.
She looks hard but finds nothing. The wall is just a wall. Whatever mechanism that pushed it out must be inside the walls themselves.

Meanwhile, the rest of the party starts to work on the second entrance. After over an hour of hard work, the blockage covering the second entrance is fully removed and the corridor beyond is now visible.

Brillaint colours are everywhere in this tunnel; pigments painted on the stone walls undimmed by the passage of centuries. The floor is a colourful mosaic, featuring a distinct path of red tiles forming a distinct 2ft wide winding trail down the 20ft wide corridor. A few chips and gaps reveal that cement or plaster covers the underlying stonework of the corridor but mostly the walls are covered with paint and illustrations of various scenes.

For those who get over 20 on their Spot Check:

You realise that the tiles on the floor mosaic hides barely noticable runes, a message in Common. It says the following:

ACERERAK CONGRATULATES YOU ON YOUR POWERS OF OBSERVATION. SO MAKE OF THIS WHATEVER YOU WISH, FOR YOU WILL BE MINE IN THE END NO MATTER WHAT!

Below the message is a poem of some sort:

Go back to the tormentor or through the arch,
and the second great hall you'll discover.
Shun green if you can, but night's good colour
is for those of great valor.
If shades of red stand for blood the wise
will not need sacrifice aught but a loop of
magical metal - You're well along your march.
Two pits along the way will be found to lead
to a fortuitous fall, so check the markings on the wall.
These keys and those are the most important of all,
and beware of trembling hands and those that maul.
If you find the false, you'll find the true
and into the columned hall you'll come,
and there's the throne that's key and keyed.
The iron men of visage grim do more
than meet the viewer's eye.
You've left and left and found my Tomb,
and now you're souls are mine.

OOC

Remember, the corridor is quite wide so when you're walking down it or doing whatever in it, you need to specify where you're walking. In more practical terms, the corridor is two squares wide and it extends as far as you can see. Each square is ten feet.

As Bard ponders on the line 'check the markings on the wall' and looks around the corridor, something springs to mind. The old histories about Acererak had stated that he had been a great art-lover while alive and had collected a lot of paintings, murals and other forms of art when he wasn't off murdering and soul-stealing. Timble continues looking, spurred on by Bard's music. His attention is drawn to one of the many illustrations that are painted on the walls of the corridor.

This painting in particular is only five feet ahead of him. It seems to depict a wizard's workroom, filled with arcane writings, potions and such. In the middle of the painting, two large jackal-headed human figures are depicted. In the painting, they are holding an ornate bronze box.
The box is not part of the painting and actually extrudes into the corridor from where it has been nailed to the wall.

The chest is hinged at the bottom so as to allow the lid to swing down if opened.

Timoleon searches around in his pit before climbing up but all he sees is dust and bones. The antitoxin given to him stops him getting worse and the heal brings him back up to 34 hp.

Timble walks forward 10 ft before stopping so he won't walk into the pit that Timoleon didn't already stumble into.

His searching of the ground turns up nothing unusual but his current movement brings him straight next to the box. Now that he is closer, he notices something which he wouldn't have seen from his previous distance.

The stud that you press to open the box is trapped. Nothing special, just a simple poison needle that springs up and stabs anything pushing the stud.

The object touched sheds light brighter
than bright sunlight, channeled directly
from the celestial realms. The light
extends to a 120-foot radius: bright light
to 60 feet and dim light in another 60
feet.
Creatures with light sensitivity take
twice the usual penalty when they are
within 60 feet of the object. Undead
creatures take 1d6 points of damage
each round they are within the bright
light. Evil outsiders, as well as undead
creatures that are specifically harmed by
sunlight, take 2d6 points of damage each
round in the bright light.
Celestial brilliance brought into an area
of magical darkness (or vice versa) is
temporarily negated, so that the other-
wise prevailing light conditions exist in
the overlapping areas of effect.
Celestial brilliance counters or dispels
any darkness spell of equal or lower
level, such as deeper darkness.

As Travan and Evan joins the rest of the group, Timble takes Bard's rope, ties the torch to it and hurls it forward.
At the same time, Travan begins to glow with celestial light.

Together the two light sources reveal the end of the tunnel. The tunnel ends some 30 or 40 feet away from Timble's position.

The tunnel ends in a wall that has a very large leering demonic face carved out of green stone. The carving's mouth gapes widely open. A few moments later, you realise that the mouth is infact a dark archway leading to another part of the tomb. The light does not seem to have any effect on the darkness in the mouth.

Near the end of the tunnel, a small corridor branches off to the left. Because of the angle, you cannot see what is down the corridor.

Timble notices that the red mosaic path that has been twisting down the tunnel has split into two paths, one leading down the left corridor and one leading directly into the carving's mouth.

That would be possible, but most darkness fleds away from the light of the gods. They are fearfull of what Pelor can do and will hide from him. As Timble crosses the corridor diagonally, he detects another trapdoor, this one directly in front of where they would have walked had they continued to go straight forward.

Aside from that, he crosses the corridor with no alarm. He peeks around to see what is in the left corridor. The corridor is only 10 feet long. The red mosaic path continues down the corridor and goes through the archway at the end of the corridor.
The stone archway is filled with a strange mist that blocks your sight from seeing what lies beyond the archway.

Three large stones are embedded in the arch, one in the lower left, one in the lower right and one sitting at the very top of the archway. Each has a different hue. The lower left is yellow, the lower right stone is orange and the top stone is blue.

From his position there, Timble gathers up the rope and the Everburning Torch and throws it into the mouth of the green demon carving.
The Torch and the rope vanish into the darkness without a trace.

A moment later, a great force pulls the rest of the rope into the darkness.

Evan walks into the mist, coughing as he inhales it slightly. He has only taken a few steps into the archway when he begins to blur and then disappears entirely! A few moments later, the rope that he was tied to disappears as well, even the parts being held on to.
This is no ordinary arch, it is a teleporter!

Evan is deposited inside a small room. It is 10 foot square and there appears to be no way out. The room is entirely bare, save for three levers that are set in one of the walls.

Oh my god, I'm being the voice of reason here, please shoot me

If I may, a compromise. Pelor's servant Travan surely has divination magic available to check whether Evan is still alive and if he is, what kind of place did he go to and is it safe. Maybe he can advise as. Spiritually as well as practically.

With pleasure

I'm sorry. The magic of Pelor would only have helped if I would have casted it before he went through there. But I can give you the alternative opton. I will cast it now, then I will go through the portal. I am not afraid that anything will happen to me, for I am protected by his divine hand. Than if I will be still alive and be needing your help I will let one of you shine with a torchlike light. I'm sorry for my own overlooking. But this is the only option at the moment that is open for me.

First greater status: 1 person (voluntarily) touched /3 lvls, makes 2 persons touched. I will now precisely where they are, what their status is, but more important I can cast lvl 0,1,2 spells as if I touched them. With a saving throw of harmless.
If the conection is made I will go through the portal and than cast light on one of the persons. So that they know I'm safe or at least alive.

I suggest we go on wit hthis very carefully, let Timble search this room for traps or secret doors. Any way out besides the levers is preferred. I do not know what this building has in store for us and I rather wouldn't find out without a safe way out. If you wouldn't mind.

Passive Elven Sense Search: [roll0]

Bard's spidey sense fails to alert him to any secret passageways. Luckily, Timble is more vigilant.
As he methodically searches the room, he finds a hidden trapdoor located in the 10ft high ceiling of the room. After a bit of thumping the walls, he figures out the celing trapdoor will open if the three levers are pulled a certain way.

His prodigious searching also tells him that the entire floor of this room will collapse if the three levers are pulled a certain way.

Despite even more searching, Timble cannot discern the mechanisms enough to figure out which combination of levers pulled up or down would lead to either one.

Travan

I could maybe try to divine something, but for it to work I need to give up something from equal value as a offering. And besides that would I be required to rest at least 8 hours and complete my prayers for the day. I have only one problem and that's that I do not have the material wealth I need for the spell. I'm sorry for that. On the other hand am I the only one with magic on my side. Would it be possible that he would have the components for this spell so we could get out of here. I suggest we rest today and tomorrow I will try to ask Pelor for something that can maye get us out of this room. If you all agree with that I mean.

OOC:

Both the spells that would be usefull: Divination and Augury have material components. Now that's not that big of a problem at least if I could trade in XP like with crafting, but I do not have that kind of XP. What is the plan guys. There was another cleric here or am I wrong about that.

I can create a 50 foot tall tree with this! It will probably burst the ceiling!

I think I hava another idea. A divine piece of information so to speak. I would rather not use the tree. And even if I use your offering I can only do it tomorrow after having my session of prayers towards him who gives me strength. So I would suggest we rest after I heal everyone's wounds as far as there are any and than go to sleep. Maybe with one guard, if necessary. Light will there be enough.

Lin Bayaseda
2010-04-23, 07:30 AM
What'cha need for offerings, gems? Can't help you with that, sorry. Gambl... I mean, used up all the gems I had. Do have some spare gold though. But how about we just try blindly without (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/featherFall.htm) falling (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/airWalk.htm)?

Duskranger

Travan

No I think I can do it without offerings. I can even make a stair. I only need a time to have prayers. And because I am exhausted I can't do it at the moment. Tomorrow I will show you what I have in mind, if Pelor grants me his wisdom and power. I wil try to sculpt the ceiling into a stairway so we can escape this room. For now we are relatively safe I guess. Would you mind it if I went to sleep for 8 hours and after that will take care of things. With Pelor at my side I can defeat almost any challenge. And the positive point of this is that I can heal the wounds, and you an keep the valuables you have with you. The potion is a really friendly offer as is the money, but I rather do it this way. If it's necessary I will ask the questions and need the offering, but I hope he gave me this insight so that he wouldn't take away any wealth from you. I felt bad when I asked it.
Travan sits down and looks at the rest of the party. If no one complains he will first wave forward Timoleon and heal al his wounds. After that he will go to sleep. After 8 hours of rest when the day starts again he will prepare spells.

@Deca

I will make as a only difference one stone shape, one create food and water and one divination.
If necessary I use two more CMW for healing of the one who fell in the trap

Nodwick22
2010-04-23, 08:39 AM

I will take second watch, as us elves do not "sleep".

Bard sits around on the ground, playing with his bow, and singing tunes to himself.

I get up early when the sleeping pill wakes me
I take a wake up pill and fill with energy
I power on hard and I check my messages
But I don’t have any messages
I take a driving pill and head to my car
I drive around a bit cuz work isn’t very far
I call my phone and I check my messages
But I don’t have any messages

All I know is driving on drugs feels better when they’re prescription
All I know is the world looks beautiful, the world looks so damn beautiful

And I feel fantastic
And I never felt as good as how I do right now
Except for maybe when I think of how I felt that day
When I felt the way that I do right now, right now, right now.
And I feel fantastic
And I never felt as good as how I do right now
Except for maybe when I think of how I felt that day
When I felt the way that I do right now, right now, right now.

Work is anything but quiet these days
I try to medicate my concentration haze
I can feel the day unfold in front of me
So I take the stairs and hit the gym
The phone is ringing when I get to my desk
What was a stinging’s now a sharp pain in my chest
So I take a Calminex and just chill
And then it’s time for lunch again

All I know is work is easy when you don’t stress out about deadlines
All I know is I take my medicine I always take my medicine

And I feel fantastic
And I never felt as good as how I do right now
Except for maybe when I think of how I felt that day
When I felt the way that I do right now, right now, right now.
And I feel fantastic
And I never felt as good as how I do right now
Except for maybe when I think of how I felt that day
When I felt the way that I do right now, right now, right now.

Sometimes I’d like to slow things down
Enjoy the moment
But when I look the moment’s gone

Work is over but I can’t stay to work late
Got to leave and get ready for my second date
With a pretty girl that I met at the pharmacy
Right in the prescription line
I take a pill for my social anxiety
I get a table and a nice bottle of chablis
Now it’s getting late and there’s still no sign of her
I have another glass of wine

All I know is the wine lasts longer when you don’t gotta share it with someone
All I know is my steak tastes better when I take my steak tastes better pill

And I feel fantastic
And I never felt as good as how I do right now
Except for maybe when I think of how I felt that day
When I felt the way that I do right now, right now, right now.
And I feel fantastic
And I never felt as good as how I do right now
Except for maybe when I think of how I felt that day
When I felt the way that I do right now, right now, right now
