Quick question does anyone know if savage species is a 3.0 book or 3.5 one ?

For that matter any does anyone as a list of all 3.0/3.5 sourcebook if possible in order of publication ?

Savage Species is 3.0, though it was late in the run and has some 3.5-ish aspects if I remember correctly.

Okay, that's why I was confused then. The prc skill list mostly some have survival instead of wilderness lore but some have "scry"

edit: Found a note about it in the book page 4 they mentionne a number of change but they don't call it a change in edition

Yeah, Savage Species is essentially a "3.2" book. It falls into the cracks between editions, mixing up certain features and becoming somewhat confusing in spots as a result.

Other "3.2" books are Unapproachable East, Races of Faerun, and Fiend Folio.

Ghostwalk and the Arms & Equipment Guide, despite being very late in 3.0, don't exhibit these "3.2" type traits- still, they can function in a 3.5 game.

MM2 as well.
BoVD was late in the series too, but it matches almost page for page, with BoED which was after 3.5.

Thanks for that it will be a great help.

Nope- MM2 exhibits no "3.2" traits- Face is still always given in two directions (whereas Fiend Folio and Unapproachable East reduce it to one direction)-

the "all monsters have square rather than rectangular bases" principle.

The Extraplanar subtype is not included, and the skills are not changed.

Same applies to BoVD- both are 3.0 books, rather than "3.2" books, so to speak.

However, MM2 is updated, along with several others (Manual of the Planes, Epic Handbook, Deities & Demigods, Fiend Folio) to 3.5, in a free online booklet on the WoTC site.

BoVD would require a little work by the DM to make fully compatible with 3.5- adjusting Face/Reach (so that rectangular monsters are now square) changing DR, changing skills (removing invalid skills like Innuendo, for example) and so on.

Fiend folio is 3.2 in the sense that while it uses standardized HD advancement rules and started listing LAs, it still utilised 3.0 dr, and its design philosophy is clearly 3.0 (monsters still have a glut of special abilities, leading to inflated crs).

yes- it had a few 3.5 style traits, but the design philosophy behind monsters was still a bit 3.0-ish.

Interestingly, the only thing changed in the 3.5 update for Fiend Folio for monster stats, is DR (it also provides updated rules for crafting some of the constructs in the book).

Later books change CRs for some of the monsters (Fiendish Codex 1, for example, revises the CR of many of the FF demons downward, in the appendix in the back of the book.

Ah yes! The prices for crafting constructs was also made substantially cheaper in 3.5 as well. The disparity in pricing is quite significant when you compare the original 3.0 prices with the errata. :smallamused:

I know that it question doesnt belong to this thread... but its also about Savage species: What do you think Feral template worth +1 LA (savage species page 116). I want to create a template similar to it but magical one (get spell resistance, fasthealing but slower rate).

It is generally said that Feral is pretty strong for +1LA.

(Also, SR sucks)

It depends on how much SR you have, the spell is a good amount of SR.

Prevents others from buffing you too.

One detail to note about the Feral template is that its special attacks are only acquired with monster racial hit dice: Improved Grab, Pounce, Rake, Rend. The darkvision and fast healing abilities are granted by total HD. So it's not quite as strong at +1 LA as you'd think from first glance.

Ghostwalk happens to have balance problems. Namely, it has none.

Ghostwalk is broken? How so Sinfire Titan? (I always read your name as sunfire)
