Sentinil, Jewel of the West, a lovely fortified city, is ruled with a heavy-hand. The Arcane Lords jealously guards their power, keeping guilds, churches, and criminals under a tight leash so that they cannot grow to be a threat. Theft and murder are seen as threats to the status quo, and are quickly eliminated. The Arcane Lords, however, are permitted to do almost anything to individuals with little to no status... and status is based on personal Arcane might. Infighting among the Lords is quite common, but the Overlord prevents excessive spill, as he refuses to permit abuse of the peasantry or merchants from getting to the point where it will weaken his tax base. With all the wizards, sorcerers, and other Arcanists, and a relative preferential treatment of merchants, the city is a mecca for those dealing in magical goods... and so the city thrives.

You, however, are not so lucky. You're still not sure how, but your ... magic alternative was discovered. In the middle of the night you were surprised, had all your defenses Disjoined, and were promptly wrestled into unconsciousness by a warrior somehow equipped with a blanket counter for your powers.

When you awaken, still suffering from your nonlethal wounds, you're in a dark, dank cell, along with many others in similar condition. You have been stripped bare and re-dressed in bright orange prison garb, with everything you had been wearing removed... including, you painfully realize, those sections of skin bearing your psionic tattoos. As a rat tugs one of the torches out and through the bars of your cell, it quickly becomes apparent that something is suppressing magic here, as the torch lights right up once it's a few feet from your cell...

Glancing around, you note there were a great many people caught up on the sweep.... but most did not survive having their implants, grafts, and tattoos removed by someone who did not know how to do so properly.

The bars of your cell are barely large enough for a rat to go through... but they look to be mundane iron, and your cell looks to be mundane rock. The cell door seems to open to a fairly large area, where a lone guard leans back in a chair, snoring. There is a club sitting on his desk three feet away from him, and a ring of keys hanging loosely from his belt. There's a framed diploma hanging on the wall, which says in big, bold letters: "IGC"; the rest is smaller than is easily read from where you stand.

Spot checks to read the small type on the diploma.

You awaken when you recover enough to have 1 HP. So that's your starting HP.

The interior of the cell is in an AMF, which also suppresses psionics and other non-mundane stuff. Next move is yours.

Recruiting OP, for reference later:

The Big 16 (do make sure to read them)

* 1. What game system are you running (D&D, Call of Cthulu, Palladium, GURPS, etc.), and if applicable what edition (Original, Classic, Revised, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 10th, etc.)?
3.5 D&D

* 2. What 'type' or variant of game will it be (i.e. "Shadow Chasers" or "Agents of Psi" for d20 Modern)? What is the setting for the game (eg. historic period, published or homebrewed campaign setting, alternate reality, modern world, etc.)?
Hunted Characters - for odd powers

* 3. How many Players are you looking for? Will you be taking alternates, and if so, how many?
4. More, if I get a lot of quality applications.

* 4. What's the gaming medium (OOTS, chat, e-mail etc.)?
Play-by-post here

* 5. What is the characters' starting status (i.e. experience level)?
60,500 xp (halfway to 12th)

* 6. How much gold or other starting funds will the characters begin with?
You start out in prison, with nothing but standard-issue prison garb (everything was confiscated - so no items, no spell components pouches, no spellbooks, no holy symbols, no shoes, no gold, et cetera; if you'd previously had Psionic tattoos, they were carved out of your hide while you were unconscious; ditto for such things as grafts).

If you have Psicrystal Affinity, your psicrystal was able to escape the sweep, and is hiding in waiting outside the prison. You won't be able to communicate with it initially, though, as the Telepathic Link is Su, and you're in an AMF.

* 7. Are there any particular character classes, professions, orders, etc. that you want... or do not want? What are your rules on 'prestige' and/or homebrewed classes?
PrC's: No. I can very much say this - read the PrC header in the DMG if you don't believe me. PrC's tend much, much too much towards "base class+" than they do "balanced" in my experience.

One 'side' of the gestalt must be a "pure" (no multiclassing, no PrC's)Psion (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/classes/psion.htm). This is a fixed requirement.

For the other 'side' of the gestalt, pick any non-Arcane WotC base class, and no multiclassing penalty (but restrictions, such as from the Monk or Paladin, still apply)

* 8. What races, subraces, species, etc. are allowed for your game? Will you allow homebrewed races or species? 'Prestige' races or species?
Elan. You're an Elan Cabal that was caught, and (at game start) is in a cell until the powers that be decide exactly what to do to you ... or you break out. Your jailer is a proud graduate of IGC, after all, so that shouldn't be too hard, despite the other percautions.

You can apply templates, provided they're legal to apply to an Elan, and they have an LA, but the LA goes on your non-Psion side.

* 9. By what method should Players generate their attributes/ability scores and Hit Points?
Attributes: 32 point buy.
Hit Points: Max first, average thereafter.

* 10. Does your game use alignment? What are your restrictions, if so?
Alignment exists... but other than for alignment-restricted classes such as the Monk, Paladin, Barbarian, Druid, and Bard, it has very little effect on the game. No Evil, and no Lawful-Stupid, Stupid-Good, or Chaotic-Stupid, either.

* 11. Do you allow multi-classing, or have any particular rules in regards to it?
No multiclassing penalty on the non-Psion side. Psion side has to be pure.

* 12. Will you be doing all of the die rolling during the course of the game? Will die rolls be altered, or left to the honor system? If players can make die rolls, which ones do they make, how should they make the rolls, and how should they report them?
Use the forum roller.

* 13. Are there any homebrewed or optional/variant rules that your Players should know about? If so, list and explain them, or provide relevant links to learn about these new rules.
Yes.
Gestalt (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/gestaltCharacters.htm) obviously, one of the classes must be Psion (and said Psion 'side' must be pure). With that, of course, goes Fractional BAB and Fractional saves (so no Barbarian-1/Bard-1/Fighter-1/Rogue-1/Monk-1/... to get your saves into the stratosphere).

A few variations:
1) Becoming an Elan damages the mind... but it's not always in the same manner. You can elect to have the Elan -2 racial penalty to Charisma be either Wisdom or Intelligence, instead.
2) You can migrate Psion manifesting to either Wisdom or Charisma if you so choose.
3) If you have a Psicrystal, replacing it is painful and difficult; you expend 100 xp per character level (you're implanting a portion of yourself) into a crystal or gemstone over the course of 24 hours of constant focus.
4) Magic and Psionic items draw on your inner strength to power themselves. The number of magic and psionic items you can use in a day is limited to 1/2 your Charisma score. So when you eventually get magic/psionic items, you may find you have to choose between that +5 Fullplate and that +6 Belt of Giant Strength ... and you can't simply swap them out at will (as it's "per day" rather than "at one time"). Single-use items (potions, scrolls, Power Stones, Psionic Tattoos, and so on) have their power installed at creation, and don't count towards this limit, although multiple-use charged items (such as wands, staffs, and Psicrowns, and so on) do count towards the limit.
5) (added 4/1/2010) The Factotum's Cunning Surge is limited to once per round.
6) (Added 4/3/2010) If you have a Psionic class on your choosable 'side' of the gestalt, power points neither stack nor overlap - you have two pools of power points, and two pools of powers. So the Wilder//Psion has seperate Wilder Powers and Psion Powers, and seperate Wilder Power Points and Psion Power Points. You can't use Wilder Power Points with Psion Powrs, and you can't use Psion Power Points with Wilder Powers. Racial abilities that burn power points, however (such as Elan Resilience) can draw from either pool.

* 14. Is a character background required? If so, how big? Are you looking for anything in particular (i.e. the backgrounds all ending up with the characters in the same city)?
Yes, at least some background is required. You're all Elans, that got caught in a sweep in the same city (Sentinal) - you may have been just visiting Sentinal, or you could be a resident ... but in either case, you got surprised, your defenses Disjoined, were placed in an AMF before you could blink... and then bludgeoned into unconsciousness and dragged off to prison. What happened before then is up to you.

* 15. Does your game involve a lot of hack & slash, puzzle solving, roleplaying, or a combination of the above?
Not sure yet; we'll see where it goes. I hate puzzles in RPG's, though, so those aren't going to deliberately come up.

* 16. Are your Players restricted to particular rulebooks and supplements, or will you be allowing access to non-standard material? What sources can Players use for their characters?
Eh, any WotC on the feats & templates ... but I do want full sourcing (book and page) on anything that's not in the DMG, PHB, MM, or XPH.

Upon waking, Cerperach is immediatly taken aback.
He looks around, viewing the dismal scene before him, and is pushed close to tears,
No,No,No!! ,
with the last thought barely escaping his lips as a pathetic wimper.
No, I can't let this get to me. Wait for the others to wake up, maybe someone here knows what's going on. I'm just a traveler, ya, that's right, they must have mistaken me for someone else, they must have.
His eyes begin to wander towards the guard.

Kelvin wakes up with a splitting headache and covered in bruises. Looking around to see where he is, he sees quite a few other people bleeding from gouges and cuts. That's just one of the reasons I don't use tattoos. The world is full of ignorant fools. Taking a second look, he sees one person has already awoken and looking around in panic. Panic never helps. Fear is your enemy.

Kelvin looks to be a twenty something young man, with short black hair and startling blue eyes. Though fairly lean, he looks tough and muscled, with the tan of a seasoned adventurer.

Forcing himself into an upright position, he spends a moment focusing his mind before trying to move out of the guard's line of sight. Once out of the guard's vision, Kelvin tries to concentrate on healing his wounds. . . only to have his attempts fail utterly. "Blast it all. Anti magic" he mutters.

He looks at his conscious companion inquiringly "This is why I stay out of Sentinil. You wouldn't happen to be a psion as well, would you?"

Deciding to try a different track of his powers, he concentrates on the weapon he knows no one can take from him. Though he can feel it waiting to spring to hand, he can't quite get it to materialize.

The beast had been curled in a corner, but when he stretched he showed not skin but scales. He flexed clawed fingers as he slowly lifted himself from the ground and shook free the cobwebs from his mind. When the light caught his skin it gleamed in the dark as though he were wrought from topaz. Splotches of human skin show through the scales and tufts of wild hair push out from an otherwise bald skull. He looks down at his hands, eyes wide with horror as he realizes he can't hide is heritage. He reaches into his mind for something, anything at all, even that simple pearl of serenity in an otherwise chaotic world. Whether he can find it or not he slowly looks up and scans his surroundings with slitted sapphire eyes.

"Psions, then... I've lived here my whole life and never once caught wind of such horror. They... must be good at covering their tracks... or I must be blind."

Ella

Ella wakes up with a massive headache, contributing to her caustic mood. She rolls over, groans, and clutches her head. 'Anti-magic', she thinks. She's only experienced the field once or twice before, but it really does a number on the psychically charged ichor filling her skull. Not that it still wasn't totally worth it, mind you.

Shifting into an upright sitting position, she brushes her long black hair away from her face, and is still less pleased to see that she is in different clothes then she remembers wearing when she was rendered unconscious. She's also in a strange room with a bunch of corpses and, hey, three other non-corpses. She blinks, narrowing her eyes as she attempts to place the still living faces. Crap, no one she knows. She hears them mention something about psionics, and notices one of them seems to be halfway into turning into a dragon-thing. Well, there are certainly worse people to be stuck with when making a prison break. Being a longtime resident of Sentinil, she knew what must have happened. Those thrice-accursed Arcane Lords must have made a sweep of all the cabals. 'That's it,'she thought to herself, 'now they'd have to go.'

She stands wobbly to her feet, trying to focus her suppressed psionic might. She coughs, then speaks. Her voice is quite mild and pleasant considering the tall, tough-looking body it comes from. "Okay, so, I'm not sure about the rest of you, but I intend to bust out of here as soon as possible and really nail it to the people who did this to us."she says, shifting over towards the iron bars. "Unless someone has a better idea I'm just going to break this stupid thing open." Fortunately, her long bangs concealed the small holes in her forehead, though someone who looks closely might spot them.

Yeah, welcome to Sentinil. Let's just say that the Arcane Lords don't really like competition from those with powers of a more . . . mental persuasion. I was raised here, according to my journal. When I was kidnapped and turned into a being of the mind, I fled Sentinil, knowing that staying meant death. My last job may even have been a setup to get me into the city. My name is Kelvin, by the way. General mercenary for hire with a tendency to be more durable than I look.

Seeing the woman get up, Kelvin gives her an appraising look. If you think you can rip the cell apart, be my guest. The best I think I could do is chip away at the bars with my sword, alerting everyone that we were trying to escape. He stands up to get behind her, ready to be out of the cell.

His brief moment of focus had done much to settle the draconic man's nerves and allowed him to begin thinking rationally. He remembered looking for a jeweler in order to get his hands on some fine gems. He was... a Skarn Noble visiting from the high mountains and the fortified city 'his people' had there. A hand dropped to his calves and the hard lump of metal embedded in his skin on each one. By the placement it seemed he'd lost the platinum, gold, and silver when the folded spines merged back into his flesh, but the copper had remained. He chuckled to himself, "I don't suppose any of you have two jink to rub together? No? Never mind." With a sigh he examined his clothing more closely and then their cell before shaking his head, "The Illustrious Warden Dewclaw may be a proud graduate of the Incompetent Guard College, which sounds fake as hell if you ask me, but I agree with the sentiment that we needn't be alerting anyone. Just gimme a minute and maybe a hand."

He begins picking through the corpses as quietly as he can, seeing if any of them have been left with anything at all or if perhaps any of them have body parts which could be implemented as some sort of tools.

You find that, the corpses have pretty much been half-flayed, and have even less than you do. Still, with their skin half-gone already, it wouldn't be too much of a hassle to extract a few femurs, which you could then use as improvised clubs.

Ella glances back towards Kelvin as he brings the skittish-looking man up to speed. He certainly didn't look like he had a sword on him, but he could be one of those mind blade types. Not bad to have in this kind of situation.

She'd have to show off what she could do if she was going to get her rightly deserved place in whatever new pecking order was going to go on in this city's psychic underbelly. And the best way to do that of course was with sheer brute force. This would be a pretty great time for her extensive background in breaking things to pay off, but with iron bars she estimated it was about a 50/50 shot.

"This is either going to be really loud or really quiet." she says as she places both her hands on the bars and tries to pull them apart.

The flat of Kelvin's mental projection swings mightily, coming down towards a particularly vulnerable area, hitting the classic IGC graduate on the the side of his forehead, knocking his head into the wall, and promptly causing him to lose consciousness.

The noise clearly attracts attention, though, as you can almost immediately hear clanging bells in a 4/2 pattern. On a quick glance around, you now can see your surroundings fairly well - there's a long row of cells, with bars and doors almost identical to the one just recently demolished, and at the end, a single, solid door, that seems to be a different material. The clanging seems to be coming from that direction.

She closes her eyes, focusing her mental powers to heal her aching body and prepare it for the good times ahead.

He curses to himself as he rips out a chunk of flesh from one of the corpses with his claws at the sound of the crash. Blood still dripping from his fingertips he shakes his head and rises. He flicks the droplets away and looks upon the corpses for only a moment more before turning to escape the magic suppressant field. The moment he exits the field his skin seems to fly apart and turn in on itself until he shows not the topaz scales of a dragon but the tan skin of a humanoid male. His forearms are covered in thick scales of a deep sapphire and his legs and arms sprout six inch spines, all of which are currently folded against his body.

He jerks his neck to one side and a horrific pop echoes through the hall in the moment before the alarms drown out the sound. His mind reaches out to see if he can contact his psicrystal, 'Kilian, you there? Need to know you aren't splinters somewhere.'

He laughs weakly as he glances to Cerperach, "A plan? Now we want a plan, right, AFTER we alert everyone in the damned place to what we've done. I was going to do something simple like pick locks with bone tools and then have one of ye quietly silence the idiot, but noooooo. I might suggest some psychoportation, but not knowing the materials involed in the construction of this building and protections against such travel I personally would not recommend it. Of course, we could always try it on one of the corpses."

The wounded door shudders on it's now-twisted hinges, flipping open to reveal a red-haired young man in a long, black flowing cloak and an oversized collar that goes up behind his head. His shirt is a black and red plaid, overlaid with a symbol of a red snake, twisted into a figure eight and biting it's own tail. He has a wide leather belt keeping up his pleated black pants, which go to highly polished black shoes. He rolls his green eyes at you, and huffs slightly.

About ten feet behind the man is an oak desk, set to face the door you just opened. On either side of the desk is another door, almost identical to the one you just opened. All told, the man is about twenty feet from the wall behind him.

Looting the man, you don't find any keys. A moment later, you all hear a cackling whisper in your ears: "Ah, so you've awakened... good, good. Scurry, my little mice, and grow strong enough to eat... oh, and do be careful in the next room; it would not do if my next meal and evening's entertainment got itself slaughtered before it was time for dinner. Have fun playing with the little lizards."

Your Detect Remote Viewing is still functioning... and there's a rather lot of scrying sensors here. In order to scry on the undead, though, you have to have specifically seen that specific undead, be aware of what it is, and choose to scry on it... which means, generally speaking, the only one who'll be able to do so is the person that made it, or someone who's worn it.

Ella crouches as the flurry of force wings rips through the room, buffeting her rather badly as she is unable to avoid the worst of it. Straightening up bruised, she sneers. "Alright, you two are losing your spellcasting privileges." Stepping to the side of the rampaging construct, she sends her head tentacle over to grapple the kobold currently being assailed by Cerperach's psychic construct, while directly her mental energies to ensnare the remaining unstunned kobold.

As Kelvin charges, swings, and misses, Cerperach's construct pounds in... hitting a wing of Force that blocks his blows, once, twice... but the third lands true, as both active lizards find themselves short of reaction time to stop it... causing one of the remaining active Kobolds to go splattering into the wall. Ella targets the remaining active lizard, holding it fast and securely in her mind's grip; the tentacle bounces off the planes of force protecting the little lizard. Sebastian shoots his acidic spittle, which just barely misses due to distraction from Kelvin standing right there, swinging.

The little lizard stops struggling against bonds of mental might when he realizes he should have learned a few spells that don't require his hands to be useful, and he has no chance. That's what he gets for counting on his hatchmate... the traitor that's just standing there, most notably.

"Eep! Okay, you can go. I clearly can't stop you."

Not opposing the grapple - no chance, he's got a negative modifier. Surrendering, instead.

The acid spittle just barely missed - you're firing into melee, but the grapple makes him denied dex to AC, dropping his touch AC down to 11.

And we're no longer in rounds.

Ella

Ella scowls as the kobold sorcerer gives himself up. "Oh yeah, that's me, Ella 'Spare the guy who tried to kill me' Serrate." she snarls, wanting to give him more of a thrashing. Logic dictates that giving Mr. Magic Voice one fewer minion to send after them is the best choice to make, but in her gut she didn't care much for killing opponents who weren't belligerent to the end. Still, no reason not to scare the crap out of him. She keeps him in her telekinetic grip, glancing at the others. "Some one take care of the one I stunned. You, on the other hand," she says, walking up to the psionically restrained kobold and towering over him, "are going to spill your guts. Who are you working for? What's his game?"

The little lizard cowers under Ella's scowl "Aiee! Don't hurt me! My siblings and I are ... were, for those two ... just low-ranking arcane lords. We're not told why anyone's locked up in here; it's just a holding cell until the ranking Lord involved decides what to do with the prisoner. Sure, we're supposed to keep people in, but... come to that, how'd you get out? Escape risks are always stoned, this is the first time ..." the little lizard reconsiders that trail of inquiry "... ah, you're doing the questioning here. Sorry."

Closing a few more wounds, he remembers that they're still not out of the woods yet. "Oh, and you wouldn't happen to know what's past that door, would you?" he asks as he points at the door they haven't gone through yet.

The kobold shudders slightly, diverting eyes from the very scary Ella to the much less scary Kelvin, and answers his question, eyes occasionally darting back to Ella. "N-no, we are j-just supposed to k-keep the p-prisoners here." The kobolds tone of voice changes to something that's trying to mimic someone talking imperiously ... and he fails miserably at it, his fear showing through "'They're here because an Arcane Lord wants them here. You are not to ask questions.'" The Kobold's voice goes back to his normal, frightened squeek ... which is settling out a bit as he focuses on Kelvin "So in the cells you went. Odd, though - normally, people can't get out - the steel bars and the antimagic prevent most from doing so, and anyone who can bend bars comes in as a statue. We've been sitting here watching the paint dry for about five years now. Makes for a steady, safe job... until today. Courtyard's just outside. A bunch of archers. The Master casts some spells on the arrows every shift change, each archer takes twenty of them for patrolling the wall. Keeps the riff-raff out. And there's the Gate, of course."

Kelvin:
Whenever you're healing lethal damage, you also heal an equal amount of nonlethal damage as a freebie (assuming you've got any nonlethal left to heal). The kobold cringes as Cerperach smacks his the mostly-helpless hatchmate unconscious, and continues to answer "Teleportation effects will get you out of here... and into the lockbox, below ground. There's a permanent alarm there for when the lockbox catches someone, a trap that continually renews a barred forcage on the spot, magically reinforced adamantine walls, and some holes in the ceiling that let The Master put whatever he wants through. He tends to favor acid or Cloudkill spells, but he'll open the hatch if it's someone he knows. The first time. Once you're past the courtyard gate, teleportation is fine."

The little kobold runs, screeching, back the direction you all came as Kelvin opens the door. Looking out, you see a tiled exercise yard, patterned in five-foot segment. The courtyard appears to be about a hundred feet along each dimension. At the opposite end, you see a heavy, iron gate. Along the courtyard itself are a series of archery targets, spaced every five feet and labeled; the ones on the far wall are numbered 1-20, with numbers above the two slots for the gate even though there's no targets there, and letters along the walls on either side.

Along the walls, humans in chainmail patrol the walls, carrying bows. There's about a dozen in easy view while you're still inside the building, but it's instantly apparent that there's more along the wall out of range of your current view, as they're walking out of view on one side, and others are walking into view on the other. A quick estimate on spacing, and how fast the guards are going by tells you there's about thirty of them, give or take.

The voice giggles.

As Ella and Cerperach reach cruising altitude, there's a bone-chilling whisper in their ears as thirty two warriors draw and fire flaming arrows twice each, and you see the intersection he names underneath you on the courtyard labels "F 11, fifty up"

The hail of arrows is mostly avoided by Ella, who only gets hit three times... but Cerperach, her cargo, is not so fortunate. He's pierced nine times, and the flaming arrows drive him into unconsciousness; his blood drips from him, and becomes visible as it falls to the ground, staining the courtyard.

Mechanics

Mr. Unseen Voice does not have your best interests at heart. He seems to be reading off your coordinates for the archers. It might amuse you to note that I went back to a few geometry references to dig up the coordinates for your move into the courtyard.

Result:
Unless I'm missing something, that's
AC 19 for Ella - 3 hits, 5, 9, 5 = 19 damage (minus a bit for Resilience - either 5 out, or 9 out, pretty much)
AC 10 for Cerperach - 1 crit, 8 hits; 16+ 9+ 12+ 14+ 14+ 7+ 11+ 8+ 12 = 103 damage. I'm going to go out on a limb here and pretend Cerperach can tell which one's the crit, and choose to negate that with Resilience, dropping it down to just 87 damage - which leaves Ella carrying someone who's Unconscious, Bleeding, and Dying, but not yet Dead.

Rolls:

Arrows: 64 of them. Ouch. At least they're all at the same attack/damage bonus as they're generic archers. I wonder if the forums will let me roll the hundreds of dice? Oh yes, and they're all technically separate attacks. Fortunately, you'll be out of the death zone next round.

High is good for the person rolling (so 1 miss, 2 hit on concealment)
There's two PC's in the courtyard at the moment, occupying the same space. Carried person lacks Dex to AC (can't dodge of own accord)
Target: 1 = Ella, 2 = Cerperach

Sebastian, with Kelvin on his back, rockets through the courtyard, faster than anyone inside the courtyard can react. The voice laughs "My, you do run quickly. I think that's enough for today... I already drove one of you unconscious, and I wouldn't want you dead before you're ready supper. Be tasty; I'll come play with you again when I get bored. Oh, and there's a bag of gold in the bushes by the front gate; you might want to stop and pick it up. It'll be a bit more interesting if you have some toys the next time I feel like playing, eh?"

Once clear of the prison wall, it's easy to see that you're still in Sentinil. There's about a hundred feet between the courtyard and the outer fence, but after the outer fence it's the city as usual, with trees, buildings, and for those who don't want to be seen, total cover for hiding from the prison guard. Just inside the gate of the outer fence, there's a bag waiting... and conspicuously, no guard, even under True Sight, and there's no cover there for anyone to hide in.

Talk about a fusillade of futility! Don't you -- holy CRAP!" Turning to look at Cerperach, she notices his mortally arrowed status. "Hang on!"

Ignoring the treasure for the moment, she moves at top speed to set down just outside the outer fence, whereupon she tries to inexpertly bind up Cerperach's wounds. "C'mon, you don't want to die like this..."

Ella pulls the arrows out of her body with a wince. "Underestimating me is going to be the last mistake he ever makes."

Inside the bag, you see quite clearly that the mysterious voice lied - it's fifty pounds of platinum coins, rather than fifty pounds of gold coins. You don't spot anything else obvious in the bag. On the surface it seems to be nothing more than a reinforced sack, as would be needed for that many dense coins.

Ella

Ella boggles somewhat at the immense haul. Her looter's instinct quickly kicks in; there's 50 coins per pound, and at 50 pounds this sack carried some 2500 coins, worth 25,000 gold. Divided evenly four ways, that left each of them 625 coins, or 6250 gold. Or, you know, one person with 25,000 gold, which was probably Disembodied Voice's real intent with this untainted loot. If so, it was just one more reason the bastard deserved a fist in his undoubtably ugly face. She may be capricious, but she wasn't treacherous. All her new comrades seemed to be trustworthy in the breach, even the weird shapeshifting lizard man.

Seeing that Cerperach was now amongst the land of the nonmortally wounded, she figures now would be the best time to get this out of the way. "Uh, guys, there is a lot of money in here."

The city is bustling; you seem to have wandered into the market district. There's many places selling fruits, vegetables, scrolls, potions, and even a few that are selling weapons and armor. They seem to be taking little in the way of obvious precautions against theft. There's also quite a few people milling about - slightly drunken crowds, that look like they're talking about some show or another they just saw. Robes are popular attire, but the colors and exact styles vary widely - it seems that fashion for the moment dictates that you have a unique pattern to your robes.... which must be great for the seamstresses and tailors.

Ella:

Thanks in part to your channeling, the merchant's seem to talk fairly freely - seems they're mildly put-off that they missed the ending of the recent show 'Prison break', as the cheap scrying service provider that had been contracted to run the show in the street had not quite been ready for the contestants bullying the 'guards' into turning them invisible.

Your 'scrying sense' picks up quite a few sensors. At the more expensive shops, individual items have scrying sensors following them. For the most part, though, it's a matter of a few sensors placed in various places around the shops to watch for shoplifters. With such a large sample size, you're easily able to determine that they're all run by some centralized setup very much like you found in the prison - there's not so much a person casting all these sensors, as there is a collection of mounted magical devices doing so.

It's still a bit smelly, but the building overhead seems to be doing a good job of keeping the damp out, and there's only the one entrance - which is tights, but if you have to squeeze a little to get in, that means most patrollers will need to do so as well... making it rather unlikely anyone will bother.

"It looks like this place has been sealed up for awhile. As long as we don't make a ton of noise, I don't think anyone will find us, and its easily defensible and hidden. What do you think?"

Having spent most of his remaining energy the night before to heal himself completely, Kelvin awakes in the morning to find himself much refreshed. Feeling the first pangs of hunger, and knowing he is safe from prejudice, he invests the slightest bit of his mental energy into eliminating his need for food and drink. Becoming a being of mental energy wasn't all bad. Reminded of his lack of a past by the children overhead, he wistfully wishes he could remember his own childhood. While waiting for the others to show signs of movement, he considers new ways to use his powers to combat his new foes.

As the draconian meditates he calls down a mantle of scales that forms heavy armor like the hide of a blue dragon around his shoulders before fading into wisps of blue mist. A blazing wyrm of blue soulfire bursts from his lips and coils around his head before settling into his hair and pointing its draconic gaze forward, menacing. It too dissolves as fur sprouts from all over his body, particularly his back in the vague from of a cloak or a hide of a massive wolf. His hands become alive with blue-white sparks arcing from silver studs on supple black leather gloves. The fur on his torso fills in and his ears take on sharp points as his form wavers slightly though he never truly moves. At long last he opens his eyes, all three of them. The last is a blazing blue beacon of light that is undoubtedly a Third Eye, and a moment later his power reaches out to touch the minds of each person in the room, requesting a mental audience.

Kelvin Wis check, DC 15, as he's deliberately trying to remember a good point to "land" with the teleport: [roll0]; and if it fails, the same table for the earlier random port: [roll1]

Cerperach:
So, are you going to be writing up a new character?

Kelvin pounds the ground in frustration, a look of sorrow on his face. He concentrates for a little bit before standing up and looking around, his bruises already fading.

"In my arrogance, I thought we could defeat the monster. And in return, I lost our companion. I have failed."

"I need armor."

Ella

Turning from Sebastian to the recently apparent Kelvin, Ella glowers down at him, the image of Cerperach scored with arrows fresh in her memory. She still felt a little residual guilt at his near-death there, and the fact that everyone, her included, left him to his fate (even if by accident), angered her greatly. "Oh, really? You think fighting some dumb pile of muck when we could just avoid it was a bad idea? Oh, and particularly when we didn't have any equipment?" She sneers balefully, "You're just lucky you have looks. They're about the only thing keeping me from knocking even more of the crap out of you."

Sebastian

He blinks a few times and slowly seems to collect himself, his psychic power focusing his thoughts and generating a pearl of calm in his otherwise jumbled thoughts. His mind reaches out to the other two, We may need to find a new place to stay when night rolls around again. His thoughts then reach out in a different manner to his psicrystal, You okay?

Sebastian:
Your Psicrystal reports that it's fine. The mud can't seem to distinguish an unmoving Psicrystal from a mundane rock.

Ella

Distracted from her fury by Sebastian, Ella grimaces. Yeah, fine, we can deal with that later. Right now let's just get some equipment. She turns away to try and compose herself and think of a place with what they need.

Ella:
You do know of a local temple to Moradin where weapons are blessed during long rituals, and sometimes given to those who make sizable donations. You've noticed that those carrying the blades tend to do better in battle... and more importantly, they're not expected to be reporting back to the Guilds....
