What's the difference?

Well,in the PHB(3.5) there are two lances,the heavy and the light(pg 115).At the table 7-5 there is only the weapon "lance",so what's the difference?

I don't see a lance and a heavy lance on that page. There is a lance designed for Medium creatures and a lance designed for small creatures on that page though.

Perhaps that is what you meant?

I've seen a copy of the PHB that says heavy and light lance. However, my hard copy (a softcover that came with the player's kit) says [medium] and [small] instead.
