View Full Version : Something Funny about Tsusiko...

I noticed in Comic #700 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0700.html) that Tsusiko is acting...... oddly. A bit like a certain character from a terrible series starting with a "T". Anyone else notice this?

And of course Tuskiko acts oddly, she's insane.

It's a certain character from a book. The book starts with "T", and her name abbreviates into, well, "BS"

Or did you mean the whole boning undeads thing, because I think Vampires might actually be too lively for her tastes.

Tsukiko doesn't strike me as 1/3o f the crazy Bella has. For starters she's not submissive.

Bella is so characterless and vague in personality that its easy to see her anywhere. I doubt that Rich intends any allusion to Twilight.

One day, in ten years, people will realise that these slimy books they read when they were young are actually not that good at all.

My generation read Anne Rice and found out later is just some lame stuff without a real story and with lots of soft-pornography (you need three entire books to find out if there IS sex involved or of they actually do lie the whole night in the bed and admire their beauty and nothing else (it's the latter)).

This generation reads twilight while in their teens. Nothing to see here, citizen, please move on. ;)

Actually, if you pay attention, you can read pretty early in Interview With the Vampire that vampires can't actually have sex. Or did you mean a different Anne Rice series?

No idea, maybe I got distracted by five pages of description how awesome Lestat's hair looks... ;)

Still does not change the basic fact those books are pretty... hum... well, I do see certain parallels.

Well, now that we know what we're talking about....

Seriously, is it that hard to come up with a descriptive title for a thread? "Tsukiko = Bella?" would have worked, as would "Tsukiko is like Bella", or any number of alterations to that theme. [/rant]

Anyways, I have to say that, no, Tsukiko is nothing at all like Bella. Tsukiko loves the undead in general; Bella loves abusive boys that glitter in the sun. Tsukiko has personality; Bella does not. Tsukiko is an actual character; Bella is not.

There's more, but I feel I've made my point.

I don't, I just find it funner guessing. :smalltongue:
Because what's the fun if I tell you?

Forgive my little game, but panel 5 sparked my suspicions. And yes, I don't think that Rich made Tsusiko as a reference to her, but he may have included his own little luagh at it in that comic. Just a thought.

in my opinion, Tsukio is NOTHINGlike Bella. The only simmilarity is that she loves undead, but I think as far as moral insane lust toward any undead at all, she kicks Bella's ass.
Seriously, this girl would rape an undead octopus if given the chance.

That wasn't really a guessing game. There are hundreds of thousands of books in the world, saying "The letter T" and "BS" does not narrow it down at all. That was more like "I'm thinking of a number between 1 and 4 million, guess what it is!"

Also, totally not a jab at Twilight.

I agree, Especially since it is VENOM that turns them "vampiric", and not the losing of their blood that does it.

Although, if they were undead, undead sperm sounds hilarious. And if Tsusiko found that out, she'd probably be ecstatic. She'd want to know how to get that "goodness" in her.

Please take the following as constructive criticism:
That probably should have been in your opening post, then, instead of making people try to figure out what you were talking about. By doing that, you not only annoyed those who don't like guessing games on a forum (of which there are probably more than those who like them, and those who like them are likely to have a weaker reaction than those who don't), but you distracted everyone from your real point, which can not only further annoy people but also delay any real discussion about the matter at hand.

For the record, I disagree that he's making a jab at Twilight. It's Tsukiko (please, people, note the spelling with 2 k's) being ignorant of Xykon's true nature because of her misguided belief that undead are just like normal people combined with her desire to be with him. It's a common enough trait in real life (in both genders) that it's unlikely to be a jab at Twilight.

I disagree, because I don't think Twilight deserves any "screen time" anywhere. Tsukiko would probably enjoy killing Bella for being an example of what is wrong with certain young females.

Also, just to reiterate because my last post was at the end of the previous page, it's Tsukiko with two k's. It's annoying to read through a thread and see the name (that has appeared several times in comic) of a character spelled wrong.

While we are on the subject of twilight, I personally find it funny that in Carpe Jugulum Terry Pratchett parodied and lampshaded his parody of twilight. The funny thing is, Carpe Jugulum was published 7 years before the First Twilight book was published.

To elaborate (minor spoilers):
The vampire, Vlad, becomes attracted to A witch, Agnes, because he cannot read her mind. His sister, when she finds out, points out that the inability to read someones mind isn't really a reason to fall in love with them.

Agreed. Only Terry Pratchett is brilliant enough to completely destroy the target of his parody seven years before it is even invented.

For even more proof that Sir Terrence is psychic, see this recent news story (http://www.newser.com/story/84160/disputed-island-disappears-beneath-waves.html).

Now recall that Jingo was written in 1997. That's just plain scary.

I think Tsukiko is a reference to the romaticization and sentimentalization of undead, which has been present in pop culture long before Twilight (I didn't read/watch it and have no intention of doing so). To make the ugly wights, zombies and skeletons objects of Tsukiko's affection is a great joke, if you consider that that trend has been focused mainly on the "sexy" undead, like vampires.

Well, that's because Vlad was a parady of the Anne Rice 'romantic vampire' stereotype that's been around for years. It's still hilarious though.

And I can actually see some similiarity between Bella and Tsusiko. Now before you all rage at me, I have to point out that they're both pretty divorced from reality and both are obsessed with unsavory 'people' in a really unhealthy way.

That's not a trait specific to Bella or Tsukiko, though. As I said before, people being attracted to the wrong sorts has been around for a long time. Twilight just manages to mangle the story to little itty bitty bits.

The problem with bad authors is not so much that they use cliches but that they don't do anything interesting with them. Whereas someone like Stephen King can take a cliched concept and refresh it with a few strokes of the brush.
