H As the title states I am looking for a decently optimized race for a warblade/psion. Was looking at Elan (obv for the PP increase) but any other options that would be of use for both classes would be appreciated. Starting at first level so no more than +1LA if possible

I vote Elan for the special powers. Or be a boring human for the bonus feat.

Assuming you're going Egoist for the swanky buffs, make a Changeling for the 5th level substitution level in Races of Eberron. With Practiced Manifester you'll be able to use Metamorphosis at Psion 5 instead of waiting two more levels. If you don't want to use this race for some reason, see if you can use the 1st level Mind's Eye ACF (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20070314a) to get the Changeling signature ability to take the 5th level substitution level with a non-changeling character.

If you are going down the metamorphosis path, consider picking up Assume Supernatural Ability at some point.

Also, it might help to use an exotic type to gain access to forms with an exotic types via Metamorphosis: Construct, Outsider or Undead.

Construct: Warforged might work here. Their type is technically Living Construct so it might or might not count, although the racial description does state that they do count as constructs for adjucating effects. Talk to your DM.

Outsider: 0 LA Outsiders include Neraphs and Humans with the Otherworldly feat.

Undead: Necopolitan is the easiest to access. Costs 3000 xp and some gold.

Elan has nice powers, bonus power points and aberration type plus Assume Supernatural Ability is a killer combo. Hello, mister choker!

Actually, I don't think you need the Abberation type to assume Abberation forms with metamorphosis (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/metamorphosis.htm).

You assume the form of a creature of the same type as your normal form, or any other type except construct, elemental, outsider, and undead.

Actually, Living Construct is a subtype applied to their (Construct) creature type, so you're just fine. Most good constructs have lots of HD though, so it's hard to find one worth transforming into.

Elan will always be a solid choice for something like this. It's not even really for the PP bonus. That's really only useful at low levels. or if (heaven forbid) you're only dipping into a manifesting class. The Aberration type is very useful. At low levels that grants you immunity to a good number of humanoid specific spells, and then comes Alter self and later skullduggery.... Their racial abilities are quite good. Blow PP to shrug off an damaging attack? sure. Blow PP to increase any of your saves? sure. But, again, they're only useful if you have the PP in the first place, which usually means a full manifester, or a very high wisdom Psy War. There are even a couple of feats that increase your returns on them, but I've only found them to be worth the price of a feat if you're got them to spare (Psychic Warrior)

Kalishtar get more bonus PP than Elans, without the cool abilities though. Still, the PP you get is the equivalent of a wizard always able to mem an extra spell of his highest level known, a pretty potent racial if I do say so myself.

Elans make amazing gishes. The bonus PP are useful and Elan Resilience/Resistance stays relevant throughout the game.

Kalashtar have more juice, but that doesn't matter as much for a gish.

Actually, if you are going to change shape into something that can't speak, Kalashtar (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/eb/20040413a) has a natural way around that.

You don't need to speak anyway, it's psionics. :smalltongue:

I meant for "talking" with your party, which the lack of verbal components on powers has no bearing on.

Pantomime or write. You don't need to restrict your race just for that.

Have fun doing that in the middle of combat...

Elan (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/psionicRaces.htm#elan). Definately. Go Egoist, and get the Web Enhancement (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20070314a) that lets you trade your 1st level feat for Minor Change Shape. Be anyone.

Diamond Mind manuevers have options for letting you use a Concentration checks in place of saves as an Immediate action. Concentration is easy to boost.

Elan Resilience (take Enhanced Elan Resilience, from Complete Psionic, if you can) lets you negate damage as an immediate action.

Faerie Mysteries Initiate (http://realmshelps.dandello.net/cgi-bin/feats.pl?Faerie_Mysteries_Initiate,all) is a regional feat, that lets you use Int instead of Con for HP (as one of it's options... and it's usually going to be the best).

You can have it all by third. And if you don't expect to need the Changling's Minor Change Shape, well, skip that, and you can have it all at 1st (Enhanced Elan Resilience is a Psionic feat, which you can use your first level bonus feat to take).

Or have everyone learn Drow Sign.

Or have everyone learn Drow Sign.

If it can't speak, I doubt it has thumbs.
