View Full Version : Best Verbal Component Ever

Do any of you ever come up with a creative verbal component for a spell that one of your characters casts? For me, the best one came last night when my white dragon sorcerer cast Prismatic Spray while shouting "Taste the rainbow!" at a group of harpies that were attacking our airship.

I liked "Shut the hell up!" for a Silence effect.

Also, "Daikatana!" for Power Word: Pain is pretty amusing, if you get the joke.

I know a dude who yells "Stop. Hammertime." whenever he casts Greater Mighty Wallop.

Our swordsage also yells "Flame On" while executing a Searing Charge.
Not technically a verbal component, but still fun.

My character's death-from-above Energy bolt (electricity) = "Imma Firin' My Lazor"

It doesn't need a verbal component, but it deserves one.

I neglected to recall Astral Construct. "Say hello to my little friend." Oddly, my character is Fine and I'm manifesting Medium-sized constructs...

I recall having a thread similar to this many moons ago, and Solo had linked a bunch of things from his and The Logic Ninja's threads on spells. Suffice it to say I forget most of them, but I remember Time Stop had a few verbal and somatic components... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yarYjuN-m8I)

It's just a jump to the left!

I started singing this song right before I saw this line

Let's do the time warp again indeed.

On a more related note, I like verbal components like "My, you've put on weight" (lets say, Power Word Blind for this), "Fireball!" (for perhaps Geas), or "Sure Brain, but how are we going to find that many cherries at this time of day?" (I'm gonna say, summon monster)

Clerics in my campaign can summon one time massive bursts of power in an emergency. One such one of these is to raise a small army of zombies who will then move in perfect synchronisation with the caster. The (quite long) verbal component for it is:

"The foulest stenches in the air,
the funk of fourty thousand years,
and grisly ghouls from every tomb,
are closing in to seal your doom.

And though you fight to stay alive,
your body starts to shiver,
for no mere mortal can resist,

"Defend yourself better next time." Sap of Healing, specialty wand-like item made by clerics of St. Cuthbert. Heals as per "Cure Light" when the command word is spoken, and it connects with a melee attack.

"Never forget your training!" Truncheon of Healing (Cure Moderate)

"You have shamed the Order." Merciful Club of Healing (Cure Serious)

"Accept your just punishment." Merciful Greatclub of Healing (Cure Critical)

Not as spell but a SU ability from my Cleric with the Travel domain. Every time he was grappled (which was an incredibly large amount for that campaign really) he'd say "Slide to the left/right" and slip out of the grapple. This happened so much that he actually got a want of benign transposition to switch places with a PC who was in the claws of a Roc...then proceeded to fall 40 feet and take an AoO...he lived though! It was rather epic .

My favorite was yelling "F***ing DIE!" while giving somebody the finger... this was of course for "Finger of Death"

One of my other most used ones was "HU-" when teleporting, followed immediately by "ZAH!" when I arrived.

My three favorites:

I was running a Sorcerer 7/Rainbow Savant 10 in an olde Eberron game (like early Eberron books only) and I decided to cast a Homebrewed spell called Prismatic Overchannel, which in essence created a 50' wide cone of rainbow energy that dealt force damage, but had a random roll for effects (such as Paralysis and Freezing). We jokingly called it the "Ray of Gay Pride," but one PC was gay, so he was cool with it. So I cast it on a pair of Otyug Wights, who were beating us silly. I cast the spell, rolled 7 consecutive natural 20's, did 17d12 damage, and affected them with every effect. My verbal component was "Taste the Rainbow, B$^!h!"

I was in the same game, with a Lawful Good Cleric of The Everfrost (LN deity of Winter and Death), who spent her time trying to be good with an evil doctrine. We later fought a Death Knight who was an Ex-Paladin, and she was running a "Reformed" Drow, who proceeded to use her Turn with Faith in the Frost, and her verbal component: "Ice Ice Baby"

Lastly, in our current WoW-themed campaign, our warlock, who happens to be a Lesser half-Tiefling half-Aasamir, was channeling his Eldritch blast in a Mage duel with the villain, a Necropolitan Bard, who used "Thriller" as his verbal component for his Fireball spell. However, the Warlock countered Thriller by doing the disco for his somatic component. The duel ended in a draw...

Somatic, not verbal, but I have told one of my players that he will get a bonus to the resistance DC for Tasha's Hideous Laughter if he uses this dance (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6KkJyu-fbs)* as the somatic component. The catch? He has to LARP it. (And yes, he can and will.)

"All your base are belong to us."
For any spell to finish a fight:

I once played a mage who knew a bunch of random languages, including Giant. We fought some giants, and I was very excited to finally use one of my useless languages. I said, "I ask, 'are you friendly?'" Unfortunately, the fighter won initiative and attack.

Not one to waste a chance to use my language skill, I asked them anyway. From then on, "Are you friendly?!" was the verbal component to my Magic Missile spell.

"Poke!" Finger of Death.

And of course "Kill it with fire!" for really anything that does fire damage, but especially for Fireball.

Start singing "Walking on Sunshine" for Air Walk.

"Can you hear/see me now?" Blindness/Deafness.

"Rocks Fall!" Hail of Stone.

"Look at this!" Symbol of [anything]

"Arise, chicken, arise" Raise Dead.

And probably many many others.
