What is another good 1st level module out there? Everybody says to stay away from KotSF.

Have you got the DMG? Kobold Hall is quite nice for first-timers. And the first part of the Scales of War, Rescue at Rivenroar (http://www.wizards.com/DnD/Article.aspx?x=dnd/duadp/20080711) is avalible free as a pdf, even if it's a little bit complicated for a first campaign.

You still can use KOTSF - you just need to do some adaptions to most of the fights, which are pretty deadly for a new group.

Regarding other modules: This listing of Goodman Games products might help you around: http://www.goodman-games.com/4eproducts.html

There are other resources available, just google it up. Good luck.

Ohh this could work, thanks! We aren't new to gaming just fairly new to 4e. Been running my own campaign but would like to run something more structured for a bit so we can get a better feel for the system.

The next two parts of the greater campaign are free as well.

Keep on the Shadowfell, isn't as bad as everyone says it is - if you have a good DM. See my campaign journal (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=104388&highlight=SSTL)for examples.

I'm not a big fan of Rescue at Rivenroar. Having reviewed it encounter by encounter for my blog, I think it needs some serious work to make it sing. In my opinion, the only advantage it has over KotSF is that it's shorter. KotSF certainly opens up more narrative possibility in terms of what happens after the adventure is over.

I've heard good things about Kobold Hall from the 4e DMG, and the quick adventure in the back of the Eberron Campaign Guide seems like an excellent way to start a campaign in that setting.

+1 for Colmarr's Campaign Journal great read.
What I did for our group was use the DMG base city of Fallcrest and all of it's great stuff and started from there. I of course changed a bit of it, both in flavor and actual components. Our city is called Twofalls moved the city north a bit from the supplied map where the two rivers merged. Made it bigger and added a few other touches to it. So far its working out well.
