I'm trying to remember a game system that was free and simple.

You basically had 1 to five ranks in a skill such as acrobatics or gunplay, which you would use in situations to determine how well you did. The more you put into description and skills used during a turn, the better you did. Can someone help me out here?

Hmm.

There is Fudge, which Spirit of the Century is based on, which has a skill pyramid with five steps. But it doesn't make your descriptions affect your success, but instead has Aspects which you can use to get bonuses.

Even if that's not the system you're looking for, I suggest getting it anyway.

It also sounds like it could be Wushu, although I'm not 100% sure that Wushu is a 1-5 game.

Wushu usually has a Disadvantage [only succeeds on a one], a three or less, a four or less and a five or less.

It is free and your dice pool to roll for successes is based on the description you put in.

Oh yes, it was Wushu, thanks for jogging my memory.

I suppose anyone else could try to remember something as well. Otherwise, this thread is over.

Of course, in Wushu, what you say does happen, so it doesn't measure success so much as it measures narrative importance of the action.
