:smallconfused: Neither. Her arm is straight. The gun is no longer aimed at the target either, due to the recoil.

To be honest, for a humanoid to have fully functioning wings, they'd probably have to have a five or six meter wingspan and sufficiently large wing muscles that most of the rest of the body would be atrophied compared to human standards in order to make the required muscle mass reasonable...

Well, you could probably work something out on the scale of this:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2203/2465048793_37c77cd8f7.jpg

Or this:

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1211/1386125619_ad80f2b6fc.jpg

Scale it down a bit, shorten the neck, get rid of the beak, and you might have room for a human-sized brain in there (the caloric requirements are something else of course). These are the basis for the flying people in my "Hard Fantasy" setting currently in progress.

[QUOTE]In other words, man wasn't meant to fly like a bird.

Well, not and look like homo sapiens with a couple wings slapped onto their back.

In a world where some elf chick will always have a better slim figure than you, you'd expect human girls to aim to appeal at other forms of beauty.
And who knows? There are probably lots of handsome elves who are looking for something no elven girl can offer.

Based on how girls aim for nigh-impossible supermodel-esque appearances now, I'd have to say the opposite would be true. It would make human girls try even harder to live up to the even-more-difficult standards of beauty set by elf girls.

Based on how girls aim for nigh-impossible supermodel-esque appearances now, I'd have to say the opposite would be true. It would make human girls try even harder to live up to the even-more-difficult standards of beauty set by elf girls.
And we're not even considering we're talking about adventurer girls; none of these artists seem to realize that anorexia doesn't work well with giant swords or armor.
I really like Royo because he tends to draw fit women, or healthy ones at least.

By now, I think Serp has a horde of tiny lizards who do nothing else but cataloging all pictures of snake women on the internet all day.

How many of those could be out there? I think we should have about all of them is this thread by now. :smallbiggrin:A lot! And yet, not enough...

Some nice art there, but most of the girls depicted are far too skinny. Where's the gurls with curves? Most look like they need a meal, Amiel. :smallbiggrin:Yeah, I already commented on the fact that there's a distinct lack of anything between "Skinny as Hell" and "Fat as Feck" (with the vast majority leaning towards the former, obviously).

Y'know, I think there could be something to the "elf guys like curvy ladies" idea... A lot of physical attraction is based on signifiers of fertility. Humans are more fertile than elves. That could be related, actually or in perception, to the more robust build of humans. I think you could see a bit of cross-influence, with elven women trying to look bulkier, and human women trying to become more slender (based on the theory that human males will be attracted to the "exoticness" of elf women).

 I have to create one now...

@ Serpentine: Actually they are quite easy to tell apart. Here's one quick way to do that.

In east Australia there two species of rosella, the Crimson and the Eastern. They always have white (with some black depending on age) beaks in constrast to Rainbow Lorikeets (and Scally-breasted Lorikeets) that always have orange beaks. (Well juveniles have dusky orange beaks...)

There are also striking differences in plumage, behaviour, flight pattern and calls. But this isn't the place to discuss that. :)

Cheers,

Awesome. We did a bird in an old Gamma World game like this. Sounded like a dove, until you realize it's call is the beginning of the theme to "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly". Then it shoots you and does the next half of the whistle. :smalleek:

P.S. Yes, I'm going to teach it to swear like a sailor.

May I suggest that you don't get an Indian Ringneck? They aren't native to Australia and have a very high chance of establishing themselves in the wild which would be very bad for our native parrots.

I suggest that you get one of our native medium sized parrots as a pet. Cockatiels are great and Australian King Parrots (a very discreet species), Australian Ringnecks (quite colourful), Red-winged Parrots and Rainbow Lorikeets (very cheeky, playful and colourful) are more colourful than Indian Ringnecks. If you want something smaller or quieter go after rosellas or one of the smaller 'grass' parrots (Mulga, Elegant, Turquoise, Blue Bonnet). They have pleasant calls unlike most parrots and can be very sweet.

Also be warned that Parrots live for a long time (6-8, up to 15 for a budgie,~20-30 years for medium sized parrots. 70+ for cockatoos) and demand a lot of attention. Please don't get a parrot unless you are certain you'll be able to take care of it for its entire life.

Sorry for derailing the thread. :)

It's the wrong color for it to be her flesh. It's a greenish-brownish color closer to the shading of her clothing. On top of that, the discontinuity in its texture is closer to a fold of cloth rather than... that thing under it.

Despite all that plate, the armor's still not field legal. :smalltongue: (For reference, in SCA heavy fighting, all that's technically required is joint protection, a gorget, a helmet, groin protection, and a kidney belt; apart from that you can go naked as far as the rules care. I would, if Link weren't already cemented in my brain as firmly a masculine hero. Perhaps a bit sexist on my part, but that's like telling me to portray James Bond as a woman - everything I know denies its possibility. :smalleek:

... well when you put it like that... :smallannoyed:

It's more the whole "save Zelda (again)" theme that did it. Zelda is firmly a princess (yeah, yeah, Shiek and all), and with all due respect I cannot see Zelda being a guy. Gender roles in classic fantasy are a bit entrenched in my mind, sorry.

And it's not a dress, it's a tunic. Granted, it doesn't take much to turn a tunic into a dress, but one of them is unisex. You wear hose with tunics, and I've been considering getting an earring myself. So yeah. :smallwink:

It's classic sword and magic fantasy. Guy saving girl is loaded with subtext by history, and is in fact entrenched in the genre's history.

I'm all for female freedoms (my dream girl is NOT a damsel in distress) but as long as we stay in this genre, that's quite frankly what I'm going to expect to see. :smalltongue:

Right? Man, I've been finding a lot of that on dA recently (not necessarily new, just now finding it) and have made a point of bringing it up. Being an artist myself, it's insulting to see people copy the artwork of others and claim it as their original work.

Who's Schala?

I've only seen a bit of it on TV, and as you might guess from a Robin Hood parody by Mel Brooks, features the Merry Men in tights and tunics, not unlike a certain fairy boy.

As for Schala, who I believe is in Eladriel's last picture above, she's from Chrono Trigger. Awesome game.

Edit: Slight clarification.

Eldariel

...huh. The first one is Titania, Queen of the Faeries (well, ok, folklore is a bit misleading, but "A Midsummer Night's Dream", much?).

And yes, the second one is Schala Zeal from Chrono Trigger; a game I expected everybody to have played. She happens to be a...relatively memorable character.

And yeah, the second one is the assassin from Guild Wars Factions, but I wasn't expecting someone to know that before calling Titania and Schala O.o

Well, since people didn't recognize her, some more Titania for everyone:

I considered that response several times.

I merely meant that she was dressing rather provocatively for being in a place with drunken men. If you sit around a bunch of drunkards dressed like that, you had better be able to handle the attention, since that's what you're going to get. Whether it's intentional or not, it's the same end effect as asking for it, since drunkards don't care. Most likely, like Renegade Paladin pointed out, she's doing it on purpose to run a distraction...

I think it's unfortunate word choice. Nobody "deserves" to be raped. There are more and less risky behaviors you can do to make yourslef safer, but nobody's "asking for it."

Dressing to attract attention is a deliberate act. That doesn't mean you deserve negative attention.

Natter: Putting a gun to my head and pulling the trigger is a deliberate act. That doesn't mean I deserve to die (or does it?).

... the line where we cross into blatant stupidity is unclear, though, so let's skirt the subject and get back to ladies, ya hear?

As an aside, there need to be more beautiful women in full armor. I'm sick and tired of skimpy clothing, as impossible as that might sound.

She's one of the three main characters of Suikoden III. She starts off as a knight but has to leave her armour at home when she sets out on a journey to investigate what's been happening (it stands out a bit too much, and in the places she's going wearing armour is a sign that you're from an enemy country).

In typical RPG fashion, however, her defence is just as good without her plate armour as with it, which makes you wonder why she bothers, really. :P

Out of all of them, I think the Miakis picture's my favourite - I just love the costume.

It works for you, Saph, 'cause the files are already in your cache so it doesn't need to download them. Also, the site doesn't allow hotlinking from other sites so the links as is aren't going to work either. You can, however, copy the address and paste it on your browser; that should work.

Anyways, I uploaded 'em on Imageshack for ease of viewing:

A warrior queen:

Mando: See the last time it came up in the Relationships thread for my opinion of that sort of attitude.

No, I know what you mean. It's just that by dressing in that fashion and going in those places at the same time means you have to expect the consequences. "Asking for it" is probably the wrong phrase, though, I'll grant that. The blame doesn't fall fully on the girl when bad stuff happens while she does things like that (it's still the guy's (or guys') fault for actually following through), but she has to take responsibility for putting herself in those situations. It's in the same vein as making an inflammatory comment about someone in front of him: yes, he's at fault for throwing the first physical blow at you, but you should know better than to provoke people.

While I agree that it's not smart for a girl to do that, the main point is that this shouldn't be a problem. She should be able to dress however she likes without fear of anything. The problem lies wholly with the guys. Yes, for her own safety, she is well advised to be aware of the problem, and avoid it, but nonetheless she's being harmed if only by not being able to wear what she likes.

This. Well, this plus nothing, ever excuses rape or makes it the victims(not necessarily the female's) fault.

It's SFW. Should be no problem here. Indeed, it's the kind of picture I'd expect to see in an advertisement. That was the first thought that occurred to me when I saw it actually; "from which ad is this?" Anyways, less talk, more pictures. Certain fairly famous lady from games, again:

You can skip the bows if you want. Also the jacket Aerith wears is supposed to be a leather bolero jacket (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolero_jacket) over a rose colored sundress. Feel free to play around with the colors too..

Well, I'm trying to avoid using a well known pictures is the only problem. I'd draw it myself but a drunk monkey would do better.

EDIT: Ishcumbeebeeda two of your images aren't working.

Double edit: I don't hate all commercials. Just the vast majority. Just like how in the vast majority of animated Disney movies at least one of the parents dies or is already dead.
