Vests, Cloaks, Robes, Mantles, Shirts, Armor, Clothes....
How many slots that basically mean "wear it on your torso/body" are there?
Do all of these stack?

Some example items:
Armor: Full plate
Vest: Vest of escape
Cloak: Cloak of charisma / resistance
Robes: Robes of the Arch Magi
Mantle: Mantle of spell resistance.

Two, basically. There's essentially 'overcoat' (Robes, Armor, other full-body-covering sets of magic clothing should you find/make any) and 'undershirt' (Vests, mostly) slots. Cloaks are considered the 'back' slot, although there is a lot of visual overlap with the body slots.

My friend has a nifty character sheet that says this

Magic Items Worn
Head
Eyes
Neck
Shoulders: Cloak
Ring 1
Ring 2
Hands
Arms/Wrists
Body: Armor
Torso: Vest
Waist
Feet

Would be how you'd have it. Mantle and Robes have to go. Or Cloak and armor.

Two. One is robes and armor, and the other is everything else.

Cloaks and mantles and such take the shoulders slot, so it doesn't count.

And no, wearing multiple robes / armor or vestments don't stack.

I meant stack with each other not stack with themselves...

So you say that you can wear two items on your "torso" so to speak and one on your shoulders?

Aka:
Leather Armor, Robe of eyes, and cloak of resistance are a valid combo.
So is:
Full plate, Robe of eyes, and mantle of spell resistance
So is:
Vest of escape, Full plate, mantle of spell resistance.

but combining vest of escape, full plate, and robe of eyes is a no go?
BTW, which book does it specify that at? And which of those can be used as "top" and which bottom? Or does it not matter as long as it adds up to two?

BTW, mantle uses shoulders slot, like a cloak, correct?

Robes and Armor are the same spot. The only combination you listed that is valid is Vest-Plate-Mantle, which uses the Torso, Body, and Shoulder spaces. The listing is in the DMG, quoted here for convenience:

* One headband, hat, helmet, or phylactery on the head
* One pair of eye lenses or goggles on or over the eyes
* One amulet, brooch, medallion, necklace, periapt, or scarab around the neck
* One vest, vestment, or shirt on the torso
* One robe or suit of armor on the body (over a vest, vestment, or shirt)
* One belt around the waist (over a robe or suit of armor)
* One cloak, cape, or mantle around the shoulders (over a robe or suit of armor)
* One pair of bracers or bracelets on the arms or wrists
* One glove, pair of gloves, or pair of gauntlets on the hands
* One ring on each hand (or two rings on one hand)
* One pair of boots or shoes on the feet

is mantle = cloak?
s robe = vest?
Can you wear robe + vest if you don't wear armor?

Shameless plug! (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=149464)

In addition to the slots there, there are weapon slots (what you actually swing around) and armor slots (Leather Armor, etc).

unless they are magical they don't take a slot. you obviously can wear more then is listed, but those are the magical slots...

* One pair of boots or shoes on the feet
Thank you, that clears things up for me.

Sadly there is no pants slots, so you can't have magic pants.
Oh why oh why there are no magic pantaloons.

I just assumed magic pants used the belt slot. Also, there are no magic pants because it's not proper to always wear the exact same pants every day.

I wouldn't have mentioned them if they weren't magical.

That kind of reminds me of Hennett from the D&D PSAs and his numerous magic belts.

He wasn't wearing any shirt. Or pants.

Oh man, I read the title of this thread so differently... Amazing how one letter can change the entire meaning of a sentence.

He is one of very, very few people to ever wear pant. What, given the one leg and all.
