Hello, I just got my first laptop and was wondering if I should download Inkscape. I'm a little nervous about damaging my computer (I hear a lot of complaints about crashing) and just want a little reassurance (and link if you please)

1. Go to the Arts and Crafts Thread.

2. I don't see anything wrong with it, really.

Even if Inkscape crashes (which I've had happen to me a few times, but not all that often), it is not going to damage your computer.
You'll be fine.

Don't worry. It won't harm your laptop.

Link (http://downloads.sourceforge.net/inkscape/Inkscape-0.47-3.exe)

Also, it's totally safe and you should get it.
It may crash if you have tons of objects or very complex things, but there will be no damage to your computer at all. You probably won't even lose the image you were working on.

Inkscape tends to dislike a bunch of overlapping transparencies, as well as heavily blurred objects. Stay away from those, and you'll find it quite stable.

It's never once caused me any problem other than slowdown or crashes that are attributed to the things I warned about above.

It won't crash your whole laptop. The application itself might crash, though.

If you have very low RAM then you shouldn't run it with too many applications running. Although... if it's a new computer I don't think that'll be a problem.

Thank, my mind is at ease

Can I get a basic lesson on RAM?[/computer hypochondriac]

RAM (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=RAM&l=1)

It's memory that can be accessed out of order, and is usually where the computer stores things that it's currently working on. 'Cause it's relatively fast.

Generally, no programs physically damages the laptop.

And worse come to worse, a format will fix any and all non-physical damage.

New Question: Why are you uninstalling Inkscape? :smalltongue:

Grats.

Now check this tutorial (http://www.trazoi.net/tutorials/inkscape/oots/). You will probably find it very handy and it removes a big part of the learning curve of Inkscape. For drawing OOTS style, that is.
