I've been reading around on the net about symbionts.... and it seems that some people have the idea that they can take their own actions while grafted to their host. Is this true? Can my Winter Cyst take a standard action to hit someone with a ranged touch attack, all with me still having a full turn? And do I control this action?

Yes, symbionts are separate creatures even when attached to their hosts. They use the host's initiative, but aren't under the host's control. The DM decides their actions.

So don't annoy him or you die to your own equipment.

Well considering most symbiont have pitiful ego scores, it is not difficult to pass the save and be the dominant one on daily basis. And since talking (or telepathy in this case) is a free action....
