So If I want to make a character who basically owns the horrible monster filled tropical jungle. How should I go about it without just being a druid and calling it a day. The only plan I can think of is effigy soldiers, they aren't meaty and delicious so the monsters should leave them alone right? Either that or mind control the monsters and use them for soldiers but that is risky.

Ranger with Favoured Terrain: Jungle?
Yeah, they aren't the best class, but it might work.

A bit more information might be helpful, such as level, available resources, etc.

Also, yeah, ranger seems like the most natural choice. Splash in some barbarian, cause', you know, tackling the big baddy from the cave shouting; This is my forest, punk! - Would be absolutely awesome.

Favored terrain? Where was that? Also Any advice on tactics, I was thinking about giving any intelligent soldiers the woodland sniper feat from Races of the wild but other then that I can't think of anything besides 'Attack Attack Attack!!' And or leading ferocious monsters towards the enemy. Also owning the jungle is a long term goal.

Easy way :
You said it. Druid.

Hard way :
Ranger, with high charisma.
Now go Wild Empathy on animals and magical beasts.

While this might work mechanically, it won't work with the set up he has got. At least as I understood.

The guy who, through reputation and legend, "owns" the forest shouldn't go around a charm the monsters everyone else fears, he should make them fear him so hard they'd piss their fur every time he came running down the river screaming bonanza.

Pretty much I don't want the monsters on my side, they are just part of the ambiance, I want people to be more afraid of me/ any troops I might get then the monsters.

Then I say Ranger with Strength and Dexterity as focus.
Be a stalker or worse, a Belkar:belkar:.
Also, add 1 level of barbarian for the punch.

My point exactly.

Hard to do at 3rd level, especially since any truly horrific monster would eat a 3rd level character for lunch, but if you want to go that way, I suggest Ranger2/Barbarian1, and then stack up on ranger from then on. Maybe get into Horizon walker for the forest, or whatever, Terrain Mastery.

Barbarian is mostly for the extra combat capability, and the ability to rage. Nothing says scary jungleman as a raging madman. Plus, you'll move faster, which is always nice.

Edit: Yeah, I'd go for a strength based warrior type. Either hit up a composite longbow if you want to get the most from your speed, or TWF if you feel daring.

Just fluff Wild Empathy as being more like Intimidate. Done and done. You know , I am getting serious flashback to Popeye the Sailor Meets Sindbad the Sailor. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7gsWqW8EDk)

Here is the description of the place given by the Gm

Tavern Stories:
Aye, she be a pretty place, but them goblin attacks nearly wiped us out. Even took Ol' Captain Anderson, and he was twice the fighter any of us be!

The land be no place for the weak, there be these lizard critters with mouths full o' razor sharp teeth that can eat a grown man whole.

Sure, the land be fertile enough, but that be because of all the dead that must of been burried there.

Yeah, old Johnson, our Master-at-arms, Pelor rest his soul, and I seen this damn giant's head over the trees. That was all we saw of the durned beastie, it's back was to us. Lucky thing it was too, else I'm sure we would have been eaten. Guess lookin' back it didn't matter, old Johnson got ate by them durn trolls a couple of days later.

Also Any idea for the sorts of traps we should leave lying around for unfortunate adventurers to step in? Pit traps could be good, snares that drag them up to eye level for your average giant lizard. and something that explodes sounds good to me but anybody else have any ideas?

Hmm, my first though when I read Jungle Warfare:
Jungle (insert race) racial variant; Possibly Orc
Ranger 1 ACF Favored Terrain Jungle (U.A.)
BarB: 1 (Maybe favored enemy ACF, I'm not fond of rage)
Fighter 1 (For teh Feats)

Then he'll miss out on Combat Style, which really isn't so bad, unless he's going for TWF and wants to avoid pumping his dexterity to enormous levels.

See Eldariel's link.

Consider Barbarian 2/Ranger 4/Wolflord with a focus on flanking. It's sort of the poor man's BFC.

Like, roll seven million dice 4d6 times, then do it again, and pick the best possible array. :smallwink:

Soo I asked a similar question on the briliant gameologist min/max forum and this is what was produced on the third post.:smalleek:

These guys would probably do a pretty good job at it...

Through a combination of maneuverability through the jungle, stealth and use of poison you'll have a small force able to take out most predators/trespassers. It's also pretty easy to adjust the guy above to handle traps as well by switching some skill points around.

EDIT: It also helps if you listen to this as to get you in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=we9rHcFXsI0 the proper mindset.

lol, wow I suddenly remember the halflings from Dark Sun X3 master's of the jungle/forest, canibals, and great assassians.

Go with Jungle Halfling, scout (maybe multi-class rogue), and go from there. That character seems perfect Druid91. Very...dark Sun-ish Halfling.
