What feats would you suggest for a Warmage1/Wizard4/Ultimate Magus8/Mage of the Arcane Order7? Plan on making him the equivalent of 17 Wizard/11 Warmage spell-wise. Also, what race would you suggest?

I suggest a Krau-Sigil Illumian, race-wise (Races of Destiny). Along with Practiced Spellcaster, it should be able to nab an extra level into your Wizard casting.

Aside from that, generic Wizardy feats? Quicken Spell, Craft Wondrous Item, Sculpt Spell, Split Ray, Metamagic School Focus. Maybe a reserve feat if you're actually scared of running out of spells. Ocular Spell, Arcane Thesis and Residual Metamagic if you are so inclined.

Do you have any particular Wizard specializations or styles in mind?

Just seeing the Warmage bit:

Metamagic, specifically blasty metamagic, is going to go a long way.

I'd throw Sculpt, Cooperative, Empower and Quicken in as a base.

Then some fun feats like Born of Three Thunders, Explosive Spell, Energy Gestalt, Cloudy Conjuration, Lord of the Uttercold, Flash Frost Spell or Fell Drain. Not because any of them are earthshatteringly powerful, but because they're generally a good time.

The Residual Magic tactical feat (CM) is a great choice for an ultimate magus. When you use your Augmented Casting class feature to sacrifice a spell for free metamagic, the Lingering Metamagic feature of the feat gives you the same metamagic for free on a spell you cast in the next round, only without the cost of sacrificing a spell and without the restriction that no other metamagic can be applied to the spell.

By ECL 13 when you go as far as you intend to go in UM, you can sacrifice a 3rd level slot to cast, say, split ray enervation, then on the following round you can do it again at no cost.

Sudden metamagic feats are comparatively more valuable for you, because you lack the higher-level spell slots to cast level-appropriate metamagic effectively. Sudden Maximize stands out as a strong choice. It's worth noting that Residual Magic lets you get twice as much bang for your buck with sudden metamagic feats.

I would recommend using either Beguiler or Sorcerer over Warmage, due to the added options on spells. If you still want to blast, used UM to give the blasty spells to the secondary class. As for race, standard human is hard to beat, although something with an Int bonus may also fit your fancy.

Build should go Beguiler 1/wizard 4/UM10/Whatever else (MotAO, in this case) 5.

You'll need the entry requirements for MotAO, Practiced Spellcaster [Beguiler] (taken at level 1 or 3), a metamagic feat of your choice (Quicken or Extend). Outside of that, grab whichever metamagic you ignored previously, maybe picking up Practiced Spellcaster [Wizard].

Other than that, listen to these folks. (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?action=printpage;topic=431.0)
