Hey, I did say at the beginning that I was making up the story as I went along. But now it's time for me to start having some more fun with the game. SOHCAHTOA!

Let's Play Touhoumon - Chapter 4-1

Okay. I'm positive I'm not crazy. Am I? I don't know. All I do know is that today, I've had ample reason to start questioning my perception of this world. You know, as if a world where fiction is truer than reality isn't already reason enough.

It began as soon as I defeated the Vermilion City gym leader, Lt. Surge. After assuaging my fury at his ridiculous trash can puzzle, I managed to calm down enough to ask him a question that's been bugging me ever since I found out who he was. If his title is the Lightning American, what was he doing here in Gensokyo? Since when did Americans get to come here?

He seemed rather surprised when I asked him, but also strangely understanding, as if he were sizing me up. He didn't give me a straight answer, but rather, his reply was...most puzzling.

http://i49.tinypic.com/14mslf.jpg

When pressed further on the issue, he refused to give me any more information. Sensing that this was a dead end, I didn't press the issue any further. Although, I have to admit, I'm still wondering about just what he meant by all that.

With the Vermilion gym conquered, I could now fully enjoy myself in this city. Checking out the few remaining buildings that I haven't been to yet, I got to meet some interesting people. The first was a man obsessed with fishing.

http://i45.tinypic.com/e80a4j.jpg

The finest poetry...yeah, sure. I'm sure you can wring a lot of creativity out of a rod that can only catch a single species of Touhoumon.

The other location of interest was the Touhou fan club. That really puzzled me a bit, as I was starting to wonder if I really was in Gensokyo, or if I've just been wandering an anime convention this whole time.

http://i50.tinypic.com/s4uqhl.jpg

Thinking I could get some more information on this world from the president of such a prestigious fan club, I agreed to listen to what he had to say. Unfortunately...

http://i47.tinypic.com/2j2gfp3.jpg

...he said absolutely nothing of importance. If anything, he creeped me with his obsession...particularly the part about his sleeping habits. I did not need to hear that, thank you very much.

http://i47.tinypic.com/21vqms.jpg

At least he was gentlemanly enough to give me something useful for the time and brain bleach I spent on him. If this is what the club president is like, I don't think I'll be missing much if I just skipped town right now.

As I headed north back to Cerulean City, I took the time to help Asakura catch up a bit from missing out at the last gym.

http://i46.tinypic.com/2dlkgfk.jpg

The trainer blocking the insurmountable two-foot-high plant had moved aside by now, so entering the city proved a lot easier than before.

http://i46.tinypic.com/2vvupgy.jpg

One quick trip to the bike store, and I was now seated on a sweet new bicycle. The ride feels all the more smoother knowing that I never had to pay the outrageous price gouging shop for it.

http://i50.tinypic.com/1znol5t.jpg

Next stop: Route 9!

http://i46.tinypic.com/24ez2vl.jpg

As is par for the course, I was immediately assaulted by a kid who really should consider better choice of words.

http://i50.tinypic.com/lieyp.jpg

Deception? How so? Are you saying I'm a reverse trap? Wait a minute...

http://i46.tinypic.com/e8s576.jpg

I met quite a few mountain hikers in this area. I don't know why they were so eager to spend all their Touhoumon at me, but at least none of them called me a little kid...yet.

http://i45.tinypic.com/kbejbd.jpg

It's a really strange world when I feel more uncomfortable with what the little kids say to me than what the adult men say. I guess I could take that as a complement, but if this kid thinks he can hit on me or my beloved team, he's got another thing coming.

http://i45.tinypic.com/11kbnsz.jpg

Luckily, my partners knew just how to take care of them. Our newest teammate, Tachikoma, performed beyond my expectations.

http://i49.tinypic.com/295ag6c.jpg

Others may try to imitate our success, but they don't stand up to the original spider tank. Accept no substitutes.

http://i45.tinypic.com/2na46ko.jpg

You know, it puzzles me that I never get to see any other trainers battling each other. It's almost as if everyone were just waiting for me to pass by...

http://i45.tinypic.com/2e3plj9.jpg

Eh, I'm sure it's nothing. More experience for me!

Route 9 eventually lead into Route 10, which was a short and stubby route leading into the Rock Tunnel we've heard so much about. A river ran near a patch of tall grass, which was quite convenient, as I had wanted to try out my new fishing rod anyway.

http://i46.tinypic.com/2s9suft.jpg

There were only two new wild species available here, but I figured I'd find a few more once I got past the tunnel. Maybe I ought to pick up yet another member before taking on the next gym.

http://i47.tinypic.com/15nljj9.jpg

Even more convenient was the Eirin Center located just outside Rock Tunnel, allowing me to switch up my party. And good thing, too! Because as I soon found it...

http://i45.tinypic.com/i44t21.jpg

...it's not fun stumbling around blindly in the pitch black darkness. Why, oh why, wasn't the flashlight invented yet? Looks like it's finally time to bust out that HM05.

So here's what we'll do for the next team member vote: since there's only one new Touhoumon available in each upcoming area, I'll just list all the ones I expect to see in Chapter 4 together for this vote. And here they are:

A. Hina Kagiyama (Poison, annoyer/physical sweeper)
B. Cirno (Ice > Ice/Water, special sweeper)
C. Suika Ibuki (Fighting/Rock, physical sweeper)
D. Hong Meiling (Fighting > Fighting/Dragon, physical sweeper or physical tank)
E. Reisen II (Psychic, annoyer/special sweeper; do not confuse with Reisen Udongein Inaba)
F. Keine kamishirasawa (Several final forms each with different types; in general, her human forms lean towards special while her hakutaku form leans towards physical; can tank or sweep.)

Lots of crowd favorites here...so take your pick!

So Gensokyo is actually located in Shibuya? I didn't quite expect that...wonder what happened to Shibuya to make it so rural. I can understand why Maribel is getting worried about her sanity, really. Not nice of the kids to call her a reverse trap either, especially since she hardly looks like that.

And this is indeed sadistic. There is of course only one of these characters i can vote for, but it means giving up some of my favorites. It will be a shame to be without Cirno and Suika and i have also gotten more fond of Keine lately, but there is no way around it. The one and only Touhoumon i can vote for here is Meiling, even if you have no Sakuya to match her up with.

If what I found online was right, Mokou isn't available until after the E4...

so I'll vote for the next closest; Keine Kamishirasawa! Blarg, people to focused on Meiling & Suika. I'll change mine to Meiling.

C. Suika Ibuki (Fighting/Rock, physical sweeper)

I! But! You! Argh!

...Suika. "Ontherocks".

Gotta go with Suika! The oni are two of my favorite characters, and we already missed Yuugi. Maybe her power will kick in, and gather fans to vote for her :smallwink:

As for a nickname, I don't know. Preferably something that works with her being evolved into a Miko Miko Suika. Yes, that's in the game.

Meiling. I'd say Cirno, but you've already got a Water/Ice type.

As much as I wanted a Cirno nicknamed Suiseiseki, for the sake of team balance, I vote for Meiling, who is totally a dragon. Nickname: Ku Fei

As for a nickname for Suika, Demogirl, because she's drunk no one else here has an excuse.

A better suggestion than my first for Suika's nickname: Oniplane?

Although a Ku Fei Meiling is tempting...

Crap. I'm having flashbacks to the Best Female Character ITP competition, where votes where often filled with such terribly hard choices.

Suika. And I hate this game.

Terraoblivion

Meiling is a great deal smarter than Ku Fei, though. Not that it is a big feat, but still. Or at least she is usually smarter than Ku Fei, the Life of Maid portrayal has Meiling be even dumber than that other Chinese martial artist.

Yeah, this is one hard choice. Meiling or Suika? Arrgh. Can't vote against Meiling, can't vote against an Oni.

Meiling. And curse this stupid game.

Look at it this way. You vote against Meiling? Meiling suffers one more minor disappointment. She's used to it. She gets worse than that every day. We'll give her a consolation cookie and she'll go find comfort with Sakuya when the boss isn't watching.

Vote against Suika? You'll make Suika sad. That's like kicking forty puppies. That's as many as four tens.

That's like kicking forty puppies. That's as many as four tens.

And that's terrible!

I still say Meiling, though. She doesn't deserve further disappointments, poor girl is mistreated enough already. Also she gets to look pretty damn awesome at higher levels of evolution.

Suika. Call her Tsurupettan ("Don't call me flat chested! T_T").

A character too many, Cubey.

And you make a good point, Kami. However, Meiling deserves to go out and show that she can handle herself, though. How would she do that if she just stays at home with Sakuya? She needs to have success for once.

I'm pretty sure Suika is genetically incapable of being sad :smalltongue:.

Though on the other hand, when we get ahold of a Byakuren (I wonder where they appear, though?) we'll have well enough kungfu in the team anyway...

Though on the other hand, when we get ahold of a Byakuren (I wonder where they appear, though?) we'll have well enough kungfu in the team anyway...

Byakuren appears in the Safari Zone in Fuchsia City. She's Psychic/Fighting type.

Meiling is just barely ahead of Suika in votes. Since she won't appear until later, I might just start the next section soon, and continue to wait for any additional votes.

Looking at Meiling's moveset, I think she's better off as a physical wall, since she doesn't really get enough sweeping moves (unless you want the Advent Cirno version...). The hard part is deciding on a nickname, lol. Unless Suika manages to catch up by the time I reach Route 8.

(I'm surprised Cirno didn't garner any support. I had imagined this to be a 3-way contest between her, Suika, and Meiling, with Hina as the dark horse.)

Terraoblivion
2010-05-26, 03:43 PM
I guess that though everyone loves Cirno, everyone loves at least one of Suika and Meiling even more. Still, it surprises me too, but i don't mind much. As i am sure most of you know, Meiling is may favorite Touhou character, so the choice was easy, if painful to make. Cirno would have gotten my vote had Meiling not been here, though.

kamikasei
2010-05-26, 04:04 PM
Cirno gets enough love. I'd rather see one of the characters with less exposure.

Besides - for being a major character, an all-around awesome girl, and living with the main character for a few years, Suika gets surprisingly little doujin screentime.

Byakuren appears in the Safari Zone in Fuchsia City. She's Psychic/Fighting type.

Pretty late, but good to hear she's not post-E4 or anything. Though now I feel a bit bad, because getting anything in the Safari Zone is a nightmare and I really shouldn't be voting to force you to do that.

2010-05-26, 05:35 PM

I would have voted for Cirno, if Meiling wasn't accessible then because I would then vote for both Cirno and Meiling.

Let's Play Touhoumon - Chapter 4-2

After adding a few more pages to the Ayanote...

http://i46.tinypic.com/2dka8uc.jpg

...it was back to business as usual. First off, I needed something to light up Rock Tunnel. Looking through the other Touhoumon I've collected over my journey, I decided upon a certain doll.

http://i50.tinypic.com/k4t9bs.jpg

With the lights on, the whole place became a lot more manageable. Now I can see potential attackers before I'm forced into mandatory fights with them! (Too bad the darkness seems to have no effect on other people's ability to see me, eh?)

http://i50.tinypic.com/wlx2ir.jpg

So, tell me again what a bunch of fanatical Touhou fans are doing inside of this cave? Is there suppose to be a convention here, or did they just get gapped on over?

http://i50.tinypic.com/10f2avk.jpg

Yeah, you and a few thousand other people. By the way, got a deviantART account?

http://i49.tinypic.com/p9lzm.jpg

You don't say. Yes, the small-chested ones are cuter than the large-chested ones.

http://i45.tinypic.com/2vihug7.jpg

Ugh...if there's anything worse than a cosplayer, it's a male cosplayer trying to pass himself off as female. At least come up with something a little more fitting (http://i49.tinypic.com/2ihs009.jpg).

http://i49.tinypic.com/o8yn93.jpg

At this point, I think I've blow up over the whole "kid" issue that I'm starting to lose my steam over it. Give me a sec, I still need to recharge before exploding again.

http://i48.tinypic.com/6yli6h.jpg

Yeah, interesting how a giant sleeping turtle can divert an entire squad of trainers through a pitch-black cave with no flashlights, eh? Could that thing have picked a worse spot for a nap? Think of all the kids that could wind up getting lost forever in this place because of some stupid turtle.

http://i47.tinypic.com/vhuid5.jpg

Like this kid over here. I tried to comfort her and offered to lead her back out of the cave, but she just refused and said she didn't mean that kind of home. Weird. I wonder where she was from, then?

http://i47.tinypic.com/2eqch9x.jpg

The reactions and puzzling things said by a few of the people I've met so far makes me really wonder if there's more going on here than meets the eye. After all, I know from first-hand experience that some things from the real world can accidentally end up here in Gensokyo. Perhaps it's worth keeping that in mind from now on.

http://i46.tinypic.com/2ur35mc.jpg

I wonder, could it be that many more people really are from elsewhere, yet have already fully adjusted to this world? I'd imagine guys like him would probably consider it a dream come true to find themselves in a fantasy world surrounded by cute little girls.

Just what happened to the Gensokyo I used to know, anyway?

http://i45.tinypic.com/2dw8fuh.jpg

Of course, any meaningful pondering of mine always gets interrupted by an unreasonable little kid who thinks it clever to walk up to me and accost me for touching them in the dark. Yup, makes perfect sense right there.

http://i50.tinypic.com/6fqfls.jpg

Why is it that half the pre-pubescent girls I run into here sound like they're trying to flirt with me?

http://i50.tinypic.com/mm8nx1.jpg

Case in point.

What immense creepiness I felt about the whole thing was ameliorated by my finally getting out of that dank, dark cave. How precious fresh air is!

http://i47.tinypic.com/33l154g.jpg

I'm feeling so good about exiting the tunnel that I don't even have any quips for the first trainer to confront me the moment I stepped out!

http://i47.tinypic.com/adyi4y.jpg

On the other hand, this guy was making it too easy. I think I'll pass.

http://i48.tinypic.com/6th6s2.jpg

Funny, I feel perfectly fine after just biking through a dark mountain pass. I don't know where you're getting this whole hay fever mountain air excuse from. Maybe you ought to consider a less physically demanding hobby, like chess? I bet this nerd over here plays.

http://i46.tinypic.com/mrqmb9.jpg

Although I wouldn't consider him to be a good partner to play with, given that reaction. Jerk.

Ah well. I'm in a forgiving mood, given that I finally reached the next town.

http://i47.tinypic.com/of96hk.jpg

Or maybe I should reconsider my mood. This place is positively creepy. Sure, it's more colorful than I imagined it to be, which does help reduce the creepiness, but that change in background music? It sends the shivers down my spine. And a looming tower dedicated to the departed? Yeah, that just screams kid-friendly to me.

http://i50.tinypic.com/v75iqc.jpg

And the residents? They aren't helping at all.

http://i49.tinypic.com/54vehj.jpg

How odd. Why is a grave site necessary? I thought no one ever died in Gensokyo. Well, except for that one normal crow that one time. This IS Gensokyo we're talking about right?

You know, now I'm no longer so sure.

http://i45.tinypic.com/59wlk6.jpg

OK, now this is REALLY starting to creep me out. We're talking about dead Touhoumon here? This just completely shatters any and all conceptions I've had about this world. You know what? I don't even care about whatever problem or side quest you're offering, I'm out of here.

I swear, I am never coming back to this tower ever again.

You can still vote for the current chapter's new member if you want, although I will be recruiting the new member in the next segment.

Don't expect me to keep up this pace for updates. I just happen to have a lot of free time at the moment.

Let's Play Touhoumon - Chapter 4-3

As a last farewell to this downright creepy town of Lavender, I stopped by the infamous Name Rater's house. Apparently, this man holds the unique power of being able to change a Touhoumon's name. How did such an insignificant man gain such unimaginable power? The world is better off not knowing the answer to that question.

http://i46.tinypic.com/s5d8ra.jpg

With that, it was time to once again hit the road. With the southern route blocked off by the sleeping turtle, I decided to venture west instead onto another trainer-infested route.

http://i50.tinypic.com/4vmyas.jpg

I'm sad to admit that I've grown so accustomed to their inane challenges that it no longer phazes me. Sort of.

http://i45.tinypic.com/2uruknr.jpg

Excuse me? Did you mean to say "gambling" instead of "gaming"? Because that would have made a lot more sense with the whole "rambling" rhyme you've got going on there. What, is there some sort of clandestine organization in this world hellbent on censoring everyone?

http://i46.tinypic.com/5o6pmv.jpg

And just who do you think you are, lecturing me about strategy? At least I attempt to EV train my team.

Now here's something I haven't seen before:

http://i50.tinypic.com/2vxkry0.jpg

A double battle? How unexpected! We really ought to do more of those. I applaud your dedication to the sisters theme as well.

Further down the line, I ran into a peculiar sight: a bunch of students standing in a line in the road.

http://i49.tinypic.com/25gtco8.jpg

No, what was strange about the sight wasn't why they were just standing in the road. It was how a nerd like this guy ended up with three cute girls by his side.

http://i45.tinypic.com/35lvvdf.jpg

Gensokyo: where the impossible becomes possible.

http://i45.tinypic.com/vmsq6f.jpg

I have to admit, it's very theraputic to mercilessly crush the rude trainers like this. Especially ones that call me "kid". (Do I need a grey hair wig or something just to get them to stop calling me that?)

http://i45.tinypic.com/161gt91.jpg

Heal Bell can't come fast enough.

http://i50.tinypic.com/25667pc.jpg

Tell me, does the game involve any sort of betting? You know, like...gambling? Just getting you to admit your problem.

Oh, cool, I still get money for winning. Yup, it's gambling, all right. Touhoumon: teaching kids to gamble since 2008.

http://i48.tinypic.com/vfzgcn.jpg

I'm sure you are. Incidentally, I happened to do quite well in my Freshman Chemistry course.

http://i49.tinypic.com/1055yyw.jpg

You know, maybe if I were actually paying attention to what the trainers were saying to me instead of tuning them out like I've grown accustomed to doing, I might have already realized that the gate to Saffron City was closed. I wonder what happened to make them barracade an entire city? Ah well...looks like it's yet another detour for me.

http://i49.tinypic.com/27x34pl.jpg

Just as well, anyway. Celadon City was an amazing city, filled with lots of buildings, including this one big department store! That means lots of shopping!

On my way, I also found a new species of Touhoumon. I think it'd go well on my team, don't you agree?

http://i47.tinypic.com/2ynh4yq.jpg

Of course, being the obsessive compulsive person that I am, I just had to spend a bit of time training everyone up to par first.

http://i45.tinypic.com/2ed9t3b.jpg

Now, back to the wonderful city of Celadon. This was my kind of place: big buildings, colorful people, and lots to see and do.

http://i48.tinypic.com/usemg.jpg

Of course, the #1 place to check out just had to be the department store. From what I've heard it carries pretty much all the Touhoumon supplies and merchandise fit to be bought. How could I resist making it my first stop?

http://i47.tinypic.com/200fz9g.jpg

And how lucky is that? It seems the department store was having a special promotion today, handing out these free red pins courtesy of the city's Game Corner (See? Promotion of gambling!). I was able to pick one up myself. It looked something like this:

http://i49.tinypic.com/2z9mjw3.jpg

Apparently, these pins were all the rage right now in Celadon City, as several of the store's patrons could attest to. Guess I was fortunate to have gotten one for free.

http://i48.tinypic.com/10nuqe1.jpg

I have to admit, this is such a great city. I got quite a bit of shopping done, thanks to the excellent selection available.

http://i49.tinypic.com/e84l1e.jpg

I almost didn't even want to leave. But there's still a whole city left for me to check out. I wonder what my next destination should be?

Where to next?

A) Celadon City Gym. Hey, we still have to collect those badges.
B) Rocket Game Corner. Because with a name like that, how can we ignore it?

I vote the Game Corner. The "don't call me a kid" running gag can only get funnier when you start spending ludicrous amounts of time at a casino and nobody bats an eye.

Incidentally, don't forget to include VIVIT on the next vote list, since I'm pretty sure she can be picked up in there. Of course, since the next vote list will probably also include the Tower Ghosts, she's a long shot. (One might say she doesn't stand... a ghost of a chance. YEEEAAAH!)

Also, what are the pins for? I think I missed that detail when I played through.

Ack, I totally forgot about VIVIT! Yeah, she's at the Game Corner, I believe. Thanks for reminding me.

The pins aren't in the original Pokemon game, of course. I'm just taking a few...liberties with the storyline. You'll see more soon enough, lol.

I see that Mikoto's lame marketing slogans took off. I wonder when Giovanni will trigger the red pins, though. It would have weird effects to say the least, but i guess it would free the Touhoumons.

And the casino works for me, i think.

Also it is easy to explain the nerd hanging out with three girls, he was the lead character of a harem anime.

You mean Makoto, Terra. Mikoto is a girl's name.

Additional comments on the update:
-You can never be too mean to Tewi
-Shizuha and Minoriko as a first dual battle? How fitting. Rather than Patchy and Alice, should've sent Patchy and Marisa though. Or Marisa and Alice. Okay - anyone and Marisa.

Go to Rocket Game Corner. It sounds hilarious.

Let's Play Touhoumon - Chapter 4-4

Everyone in town is talking about the Game Corner. And since I'm a legal adult, it's no problem for me to go check it out, right? Of course.

http://i50.tinypic.com/4v5ti0.jpg

I don't know why random people come up to me and tell me about things I don't know about, if I'm not suppose to know about them. I guess no one can keep a secret in this world, eh?

Regardless, all signs seemed to point to the Game Corner as my next stop. Time to spin the wheel and see what I get!

http://i48.tinypic.com/2hgtkdd.jpg

Oddly enough, I found a scientist pacing around nervously outside the Game Corner, muttering something about a "Silph Scope". Sounds like he ought to take better care of his possessions, rather than blowing it all on the slots. They're probably rigged, anyway.

http://i50.tinypic.com/107vshu.jpg

The people there were quite nice though. I think I might actually have to re-evaluate my opinion of gambling addicts. They were just handing out coins like water, which was mighty nice of them. Perhaps they're just so used to losing their money to someone else that they don't feel anything wrong about it. The world could use more people like that.

Curious as to just what made this silly game of twirling wheels and flashing lights so addictive, I gave the slots a spin. Before me spun a blur of symbols I had never seen before.

http://i46.tinypic.com/9lkd4y.jpg

And soon received confirmation that this game is so totally rigged. They let you win enough of the small ones just to whet your appetite, but constantly deny you the thrill of the big catch. How can anyone have the patience to withstand this? Unless there's some sort of hidden mind control hypnosis effect going on behind the wheels, I don't see how this is catching on. Actually, maybe that's it. Maybe this place is really just trying to mind-control everyone. If so...I think I'll back away now.

To vent out my frustration over the crooked game, I tried to ask an employee about the slots. Hey, the guy was wearing a shirt that said "Rocket", and this was the Rocket Game Corner, so he should have been available to help me out, right? Well, all I have to say is that this is the worst customer service I've ever seen.

http://i50.tinypic.com/33ct8ow.jpg

The man just stormed off to a seemingly empty corner after losing, muttering about some secret base. Way to keep a secret going there, dude. Thankfully, I didn't fail that listen check from the first batch of images, so I knew just what to do next.

http://i49.tinypic.com/9hknjl.jpg

You know, you'd think I'd be a lot more nervous about stepping in alone into a criminal hideout crawling with armed guards. I guess my past experiences with Team Rocket has made me rather jaded about their competence. The ones I met inside the base were a bit different from the ones I fought earlier, though. If only I could just put my finger on it...

http://i49.tinypic.com/3146mx0.jpg

It wasn't that they had better levels for their Touhoumon or some sort of super-deadly strategy, that's for sure.

http://i50.tinypic.com/312i694.jpg

And they were understandably very upset by my intrusion upon their hideout. If only they weren't so eager to talk about how no one ought to know this place existed.

http://i48.tinypic.com/21ad4t2.jpg

Come to think of it, I guess their speech was a bit harder for me to understand. I knew I should have paid more attention in Freshman Calculus.

http://i46.tinypic.com/246jtxd.jpg

What impressed me most about this batch of Team Rocket members, though, was that they sported some seriously dangerous attacks despite their relatively low levels. Destiny Bond? Double-Edge with STAB? Pretty deadly.

http://i49.tinypic.com/1hpjc5.jpg

The Team Rocket base was also one of the most absurd work environments I've ever seen. How was anyone suppose to get to where they needed to go when half the hallways were a maze of arrow-pushing...things. I feel like I'm about to throw up after all the spinning they made me do...

http://i50.tinypic.com/2ive0bt.jpg

Now, if I had been paying attention earlier, I might have remembered someone mentioning something about the Silph Scope. It's a pity I don't remember who it was.

http://i50.tinypic.com/9697c0.jpg

Speaking of lost items, it sure is convenient for these Rockets to tell me exactly what they dropped, rather than leaving me to figure it out on my own. I got to say, for a heartless criminal syndicate, they sure can be user-friendly at times.

http://i47.tinypic.com/4hts3o.jpg

And sometimes, they just aren't.

http://i47.tinypic.com/246lx10.jpg

As I fought my way deeper into the base, it occurred to me that I really didn't have much of a reason to be here. I mean, yeah, they're Team Rocket, so they're obviously Always Evil or something, which means I'm duty-bound to fight them...I think. Wait, what was their evil plan anyway, that I just had to stop them?

http://i50.tinypic.com/20f9i13.jpg

That's the thing that I found quite amazing abou these Rockets: they actually refrained from telling me their boss's secret plan for once. Villains that don't boast about their evil masterminded schemes? Unheard of!

http://i50.tinypic.com/1181w5t.jpg

Before being foolish enough to just stomp right in to the most heavily-guarded room, I made sure to secure an escape route using the elevator. Once I had that under control, it was time to go after their boss.

Gee, I sure am lucky they never thought of shutting down the elevator while I'm in it, eh?

http://i47.tinypic.com/63xf0h.jpg

In the deepest floor of the base was a single door, guarded by two Rockets.

http://i46.tinypic.com/2ez2vdg.jpg

No points for guessing what's behind door #1.

http://i46.tinypic.com/2u9h56o.jpg

And here's the big man, who introduced himself as Giovanni. I don't know what he means by protecting the world...but don't most villains claim to be saving the world through their tyrannical rule?

http://i46.tinypic.com/zmgyrp.jpg

Giovanni lead off with a dark chibi Chen, who went nuts with stat down effects thanks to Intimidate, Mud Sport, and Mud Shot. Even after she was defeated, her impact on the battle remained.

http://i48.tinypic.com/syp1jc.jpg

The weakened China-Li fared much worse against the dark Momiji, who had the opportunity to buff herself up immensely before delivering some punishing blows.

http://i48.tinypic.com/dep7nr.jpg

Believe it! stepped up to deliver the counterattack, but still had one last opponent to deal with. Giovanni's Suika saw fit to buff itself up significantly before beginning her assault with Rock Tomb and Rock Blast.

http://i46.tinypic.com/2n707e0.jpg

Thanks to our great typing for resistance, though, it was not difficult to triumph in this contest.

http://i50.tinypic.com/54i2yt.jpg

Giovanni actually took his loss quite well, saying that my victory was ultimately pointless, given that his plan is already in motion. As a gesture of the futility of my actions, he left behind the Silph Scope. Uh...what was I suppose to do with this again?

I mean, even after I got out the place, that guy who had lost it earlier was nowhere to be found. Instead, where he was standing was left a single letter, not even addressed to anyone. Of course I was curious enough to open it. Inside was just a single sentence: "Come to Celadon Mansion."

Celadon Mansion was a large building on the north side of the city. I didn't even know if that letter was meant for me, anyway, but I went regardless. Inside on the first floor, I just found an old lady having tea, with several Touhoumon around her. I was about to inquire if I should even be here, but she just told me to sit down and offered me some tea, acting like she was expecting me.

http://i49.tinypic.com/ke7oky.jpg

Back to Graze Tower? Oh, how I wish I hadn't heard those words. Hey, why do I even need to listen to this lady anyway?

Strangely enough, when I went back to the Mansion later to ask her just what she meant, I could find no trace of her, as if she was never there in the first place. Weird...

I've been watching this LP for some time, and I guess I finally decided to register so I could comment on it. Oh well.

So, a tip that some people may not know: if I'm not mistaken, bringing a Clefairy with you to the slots raises your chances to get a 777 a lot. And who's the Clefairy in Touhoumon? Yeah, Tewi. CTewi, to be more precise. It's either that, or...

The machine with the best odds is at the far left directly beneath the lady in that isle.
...but I'm sure that the last time I tried these machines with a CTewi with me, I got a lot of triple 7s. And I wasn't at that machine...

Also, useless tip #2:
http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/8/ballsd.png
The marked tiles? There are balls hidden there. Using the Itemfinder on Giovanni's spot also gets you something, I believe.

and oh god what was with all the Sho references has Giovanni been playing too much TWEWY or something

As for the new gym? I suggest getting a new girl at the Lo-- Graze Tower and using her there. A Youmu, perhaps? I actually don't know if there are Wild Youmus there so I used common sense

Rolaran

Good guess. There are Youmu in the tower, as well as Yuyuko and all three Prismriver sisters.

Also, TWEWY! I knew I was missing a reference there, but didn't know what it was referring to.

Also also, see what happens? You abandon Suika in favor of Meiling, and the poor thing turns to a life of crime.

Let's Play Touhoumon - Chapter 4-5

Before I leave for Graze Tower (because I SOOOO want to go there right now), there was still unfinished business waiting for me at the Celadon Gym. I think I'll appreciate not needing to understand not any math references this time around. I've got a whole new vendetta to chew on, though.

http://i45.tinypic.com/de4gwm.jpg

Apparently I've got more perverse stalkers to worry about. Excuse me for a moment while I report this man to the local author- oh, wait, I forgot. Police are useless here.

This may be an all-female gym, but I don't really think this place is indictive of my gender. Not all of us are flower-obsessed Yamato Nadeshikos-in-training. Some of us fit into alternate stereotypes, thank you very much. Where would I be without my snarkiness?

http://i49.tinypic.com/iqacjk.jpg

Wait...what are you trying to say about me? What nerve! Just because I do not fit into your specific brand of femininity! And to say nothing of any of the male trainers who may need to challenge this gym! What kind of idiotic rule is that?

http://i45.tinypic.com/1ggcwm.jpg

So you admit that this glass prison you've set up for yourself is boring, eh? How unsurprising. Maybe if you didn't confine yourself in such a stifling environment, and actually bothered to expand your horizons, you wouldn't be so bored.

http://i50.tinypic.com/ay9a10.jpg

So you deliberately chose the easy way to do things, do you? Maybe if you didn't always take the easy road, you wouldn't have gotten thrashed by me so badly.

And why do people keep mistaking me for a boy?! I mean, I know I don't exactly have the biggest...assets, but does my long hair and dress not give it away? I'm not even trying to hide my gender with an awesome feathered hat or anything. Or could it be...that you've been trapped in this feminine cage for so long that you're desperate for any form of male attention, even if you have to fabricate it? I don't even know whether I ought to berate you or pity you anymore.

http://i50.tinypic.com/27xp5co.jpg

Why do I keep feeling like "nice lady" is suppose to be an euphemism or something? Oh no...all female, desperate for male attention, "nice ladies"...don't tell me that this gym is secretly a brothel!

http://i45.tinypic.com/m76vj5.jpg

You poor things. There's so much more you could be doing with your life! Let me help set you free! Embrace your future with smiles rather than tears!

You there! You look like you're in charge. I've got a whole lot to say to you about how you're running your gym, and I hope you'd listen carefully. No, don't just go off staring out the window and talking about the weather! This is serious! Maybe you'll pay more attention once I arrange your flowers...the hard way! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tce6O-B5jPA)

Our team, as of the end of chapter 4:

http://i46.tinypic.com/28bbt6d.jpg

And one more question to ask:

So, Wriggle. Yeah, she was MVP of that last battle. Now you've seen her alternate evolution, Princess Wriggle. The question is: should I take her alternate evolution, or stick with her EX form?

EX Wriggle:
Only Bug type, so fewer weaknesses; the added STAB she'd otherwise get is fairly useless.
Statistically, gets higher defense but lower special defense and HP.
Learns fewer support moves, but better offensive attacks; not sure if we really need the offensive coverage, given Wriggle's more supportive nature for my team.

Princess Wriggle:
A whole mess of new weaknesses from adding the Grass type, including two different 4x weaknesses.
Slightly better stat bases; lower defense, but better HP and special defense, and very slightly higher speed.
Can learn more support moves like Sing and Sweet Kiss (but require move relearner to get).
Gets a better ability. (Infectious: same as Effect Spores)

And a 3rd option, although I'm not as eager for this one:

Beach Wriggle:
Has the unique Bug/Water type.
Has better offensive stats, but worse defensive stats (except for special defense). Sweeping ability is sadly hampered by lower speed.
Does get Yawn for support, but otherwise learns more sweeping-oriented moves (like Mana Charge).
Fanservice-y sprite (Wriggle in a swimsuit, and looks more mature somehow.)

If you want a manly version of Wriggle, don't go picking her EX mode, as that one's sprite also happens to be rather feminine (long haired Wriggle!). Gee, maybe naming her "Souseiseki" was a bit premature, eh? Although Souseiseki did look really cute in that dress in episode 7 of Rosen Maiden Träumend...

Personally, I like Princess Wriggle for the better support moves, ability, and slightly better stats, but the added Grass typing is more of a liability than an asset. Since her alternate forms evolve via stones, you can also choose whether to evolve her immediately, or wait until later.

Nope, not without some notable hacking on my part. Last Word Wriggle is pretty badass (as are all the Last Word forms), but that requires a Sun Stone, which I normally won't be able to get for a long time unless I feel like farming chibi Yukaris. All the Last Word forms are pretty much Game Breakers anyway, with stat distributions that match or surpass even Garchomp.

Gothic Mystia can be seen on the first post of this thread, in the second image I posted. She was one of my earlier team's physical sweepers, and she was awesome.

Let's Play Touhoumon - Chapter 5-1

A small distance west of Celadon City, I found a secluded little house in the woods. Apparently, it's been kept in total isolation from the outside world, because no one has ever been able to bypass the insurmountable two-foot-high plant that blocked the pathway to it. Until now, that is.

http://i49.tinypic.com/260fln4.jpg

To bribe me into keeping this place a secret, the girl there gave me another HM, this time to teach the art of flight. Because, you know, things with wings don't know how to unless a machine teaches them first.

http://i50.tinypic.com/9iquzq.jpg

With a quick flap, I was able to travel all the way from Celadon City to Lavender Town in but a moment. Not that I was all that eager to get here, but hey.

http://i49.tinypic.com/dm9zsx.jpg

Looks like I wasn't the only one to think of exploring this place either. Long time no see, Renko! I didn't even seen you at all last chapter! You're looking well, aren't you? Say, I wonder how you knew to check this place out?

http://i49.tinypic.com/aagp04.jpg

Renko once again led off with Aya, so I figured a mirror match was in order. However, she didn't seem to think so, and ended up doing something that I've never seen before: switching. Well, I've never seen anyone other than me do it, at any rate.

http://i48.tinypic.com/28srpn5.jpg

Given the poor matchup for me, I had to likewise switch out. Mukyue brought her starter to a quick end by exploiting her gaping weakness to fire.

http://i48.tinypic.com/ht7hqa.jpg

When Renko's Aya once again returned to the field, I had my own Asakura finish what she started. A quick sweep of Momiji followed, due to the latter's obsession with self-buffs at the expense of actually using it to hit us. Up next, though, was a new member of Renko's team that I've never seen before.

http://i45.tinypic.com/2mecww9.jpg

Youmu was quite a pain to hit, thanks to a plethora of immunities and resistances afforded to her by her unique type combination. Once again I was forced to spend a turn to switch out. (Curse you, Set Battle Mode!)

http://i50.tinypic.com/25jweq0.jpg

With Tachikoma fielding a better arsenal against the half-ghost, we were able to bring down Youmu and gain a valuable new skill as well. All that remained was to one-shot Renko's poor chibi Patchouli, and the battle was ours.

http://i46.tinypic.com/2cntxsz.jpg

Renko gave me a useful piece of information after the fight: namely, that Team Rocket was up to something in this tower. Gosh, I just keep running into them at every turn, don't I? It's like as if I were a protagonist in some video game and thus the only person capable of stopping the evildoers all the time. But of course that can't be true, right?

http://i48.tinypic.com/20kc3ly.jpg

With no choice but to go up (since thou must and all), I heaved a heavy sigh and climbed the stairs up to the creepier parts of Graze Tower. If someone had told me I'd be spending my vacation exploring a fog-filled haunted tower lined with tombstones, I would have had them committed to a mental institution. Instead, it looks like I'll be the one needing therapy after this.

What's this, a rope? Hmm, the end is already tied into a noose, which can fit snuggly over one's head...

And the people, the people here! I've never really thought mikos were all that creepy before, but these ones, well...

http://i49.tinypic.com/2rf3i1d.jpg

It didn't sound like they were all right in the head. Even after I had beaten her in battle, she still just kept staring blankly at me, repeating the same thing over and over again. Something about righting countless wrongs and stuff. I tried all I could to snap her out of it, but nothing worked. She just continued to recite that mysterious line in suspicious red-colored text.

http://i48.tinypic.com/2irs181.jpg

The other mikos in the tower were no different, stammering on about some cult-ish saying for cleansing the world. Oddly enough, beating them in battle still had no effect on their condition. Not what I was expecting, at any rate. What was the point of me even fighting them, then?

http://i45.tinypic.com/js20pw.jpg

Higher and higher I climbed, through more and more floors filled with this thick, damp fog. Lost in a graveyard, hounded by ghosts all around me, and fleeing from zombie mikos. Not exactly my idea of fun. I swear, I'm going to find Wes Craven after all this is done and introduce his face to my foot.

http://i49.tinypic.com/cpct4.jpg

At least someone was kind enough to set up a spot for me to rest. This purified field stuff is pretty nifty; any chance I can get a portable version going? Instant circle of protection, just add water! Would be a huge hit.

http://i46.tinypic.com/33dxsu9.jpg

Of course, I have no idea what these crazy possessed women even mean by creating a new paradise through shining a flashlight or something of that nature. How typical. Everyone talks about changing the world, but get fuzzy when it comes to the details, eh? Even if you're just a brainwashed zombie, you've still got no excuse for lacking a plan.

http://i45.tinypic.com/bydma.jpg

Although I've got to say, for a bunch of creepy mikos living in a foggy haunted graveyard tower, they sure were in touch with popular fashion trends. They even sported the same red pins that were all the rage in Celadon City.

http://i47.tinypic.com/rtma0l.jpg

Maybe if they spent less time shopping and reciting their ideological mantra, and more time hammering out the details of their salvation agenda, they'd actually make more of a difference in this world. But as is, I don't see how a zombie miko was going to take the world by storm.

http://i49.tinypic.com/244nv2q.jpg

Up and up I continued, growing more desensitized to the disturbing ramblings of zombie women that moaned all around me. This trip is really doing weird things to my psyche, eh? If I know my horror genre, then whatever's causing all this is probably at the very top of this tower. Just one more flight of stairs and-

Whoa. What's that?

http://i45.tinypic.com/bex1mc.jpg

Could this strange and unique ghost be the source of the brainwashed mikos? Then allow me to defeat it and...

Nope, they're still zombies. Great. What's the point of this thing, then? Oh well, one more floor to go...

http://i48.tinypic.com/21afxx.jpg

...and who did I find, but Team Rocket! Again! Are you stalking me, or am I stalking you?

The three Team Rocket members I found seemed to be busy abusing an old man, yelling at him about interrupting some important tests that they were ordered to carry out. Being the good moral citizen that I am, I was obligated to help the obviously innocent old man from the brutish math thugs.

Nah, I really had no clue who the old man was. I just needed a good excuse to fight the Rockets. Beating up math nerds is surprisingly therapeutic; I finally understand what all those middle school bullies were getting at.

http://i50.tinypic.com/34j4r2u.jpg

Hmm, both their leader Giovanni and the Team Rocket members here mentioned something about changing the world as well. Coincidence? Yeah, it's probably just a coincid- bwahahaha! Sorry, I just couldn't say that with a straight face. Come on, I'm not that dumb.

http://i50.tinypic.com/2lcxugj.jpg

The old man I rescued, Mr. Fuji, told me about his theory regarding the zombie mikos roaming the tower. The women started behaving this way shortly after Team Rocket arrived and handed out those red pins, so the two incidences were likely linked. Plenty of questions still remained, though. Why did they choose this place, and what's so special about the pins? I mean, I've got a pin just like it, yet I'm clearly not some possessed lunatic rambling about the judgment of the world. Well, as far as I know, anyway.

http://i48.tinypic.com/1sjbt5.jpg

Mr. Fuji charged me to get to the bottom of this mystery, because it's always wise to shift the responsibility onto a complete stranger in these matters. To aid me in my quest, he offered me a mysterious flute that has the power to awaken sleeping Touhoumon. He saw it as a way to help me get past the giant turtle blocking the roads. I saw it as an excuse to never spend any more money on Awakenings, only to remember that I've got a Heal Bell user on my side. And that I never use items in battle anyway.

With another unique tool tucked safely into my bag, I felt ready for more adventure. But where should my adventure take me? I could continue pursuing the Rockets and learn more about just what they're up to, but with my new flute opening the way south, there were many new lands for me to explore as well. Hmm, where should my priorities lie...

The rest of Chapter 5 is in your hands! Where to next?

Continue exploring South, to Fuchsia City!
> Covers Cycling Road, Routes 12-15, and Fuchsia Gym.
> Gives me earlier access to the Safari Zone, where tons of new characters can be found.

Check out the heart of this region and this incident: Saffron City!
> Covers the Fighting Dojo, Silph Company, and Saffron Gym.
> More Team Rocket math references, and battles with Renko and Giovanni.

Also...time for another potential new member! This will cover Graze Tower and the new routes opened by the flute.

A. Lunasa Prismriver (Ghost, bulky supporter: baton passes defensive buffs)
B. Merlin Prismriver (Ghost, offensive supporter: baton passes attack/special attack buffs)
C. Lyrica Prismriver (Ghost, fast supporter: baton passes speed buffs)
D. Youmu Konpaku (Ghost/Normal > Ghost/Steel, physical sweeper or physical wall)
E. Yuyuko Saigyouji (Ghost/Grass, extremely versatile movepool, can fill almost any role)
F. Yuka Kazami (Grass/Dark, very slow special/mixed sweeper or tank)
G. Genji (Rock/Flying, physical wall that can't do anything else)
H. None of the Above (Why do I still include this option? It's never going to win.)

Sorry Rolaran, but VIVIT will not be included in this list. Yes, she's available at the Game Corner, but costs an astounding 9,999 coins, which of course I won't be able to afford right now. Maybe once I get that kind of money, I'll add her to the next list of choices.

Advent Yuyuko. Guess which character from FF VII she's suppose to represent...

No, I'm not trying to sway the vote in the slightest. :smalltongue: Youmu's a fine character too, Shadowball and Petal Storm offer amazing type coverage for a sweeper.

Anyway, as I was saying earlier, you guys can also vote on where to go next: Fuchsia or Saffron City. Details were in my previous update.

Due to very few replies regarding where to go next, I just went ahead and reached Fuchsia City, mostly because the Safari Zone is awesome. Thing is, the Safari Zone in this game has TOO MANY characters to choose from. Nearly every single PC-98 character and everyone from UFO can be found there. So, I'm still working out how exactly to do this.

I'm thinking maybe we should hold two separate votes. The first vote will be just between the UFO characters (and Rin Satsuki, lol). Then, at a later time, we'll hold a vote among all the PC-98 characters (It's a large group, but realistically, I'm only expecting Mima, Shinki, or maybe Yumemi to stand a chance of winning. Prove me wrong!). What do you guys think about this plan?

(Oh, and as a head's up, I went and got Youmu. Her nickname is Miyazaki, because with a Naive nature, I just couldn't resist. Only Rash would have been funnier.)

Assassin89

Let's Play Touhoumon - Chapter 5-2

Bidding Mr. Fuji farewell, I ventured once more into Graze Tower, to see if the situation had improved. It hadn't. The mikos were still zombies, and even my attempts to remove their red pins were thwarted, as they stubbornly refused to part with them. Seeing that there was little else for me to do, I let them be for now.

Instead, I turned my attention to the many new species of Ghost Touhoumon that lurked in the tower. Renko showed off her new Youmu earlier, and I figured what's good enough for her is good enough for me as well (hey, I also had Aya and Patchy, didn't I?).

http://i46.tinypic.com/sgjvch.jpg

To round out my Ayanote, I recorded the remaining ghosts as well. You know, for a group of undead spirits haunting a graveyard, they sure are cute. Really, really cute. But I guess that's just par for course with this world.

http://i48.tinypic.com/30i7tk2.jpg

A swift training session later, and Miyazaki was caught up with the rest of my team. She seems remarkably eager to slay the forces of evil, so why wait? On with our adventure!

http://i46.tinypic.com/2jfd83s.jpg

To the west of Celadon City lay yet another giant sleeping turtle. I suppose now would be as good a time as any to try out the gift Mr. Fuji left me with.

http://i48.tinypic.com/5d2dlu.jpg

You know, if people had seen me attack a large sleeping turtle back in the real world, I'd probably be arrested for poaching an endangered species or something. And this thing is definitely endangered, because there's only like two in the whole world, or so I've been told. But then I remember that this is really no worse than capturing cute little girls and making them battle each other, so I ought to just shut up and roll with it for now.

http://i50.tinypic.com/34t8qvd.jpg

The turtle showed some stunning tenacity, constantly resting to recover back its health. It was even prepared to wake itself up with a held item! After a long and grueling battle, I was forced to break out the more expensive Touhou Orbs to capture it.

This thing was totally not worth it. It's not even a cute little girl!

http://i48.tinypic.com/dfasrd.jpg

Inside the guardtower that loomed just beyond where the sleeping turtle lay, I had a chance to run into another one of Professor Oak's aides. This would be the first one to have actually given me something practical and useful: an ante chip for demanding higher stakes and payouts when betting on Touhoumon battles. See? Gambling totally pays off in this world when you're good. Just make sure the house doesn't control the slots, and you can watch the dough roll right in.

Lo and behold! A great opportunity to try out this trinket!

http://i49.tinypic.com/24pc306.jpg

I exited the guardtower onto Cycling Road, which was crawling with rude gangsters on bikes. Not a single normal cyclist in sight, I was but a poor defenseless girl surrounded by gangs of hulking brutes demanding tribute.

Wait, did I say "defenseless"? Ooh, my bad.

http://i50.tinypic.com/25iordk.jpg

I must say, this vacation is doing wonders for my self-confidence. Miyazaki wasted no time as she cut down anyone standing in her way. I wonder where she gets it from?

http://i49.tinypic.com/2r5riur.jpg

It's amazing how safe I felt as I ran the gauntlet of nasty bikers. Truly, this world has been kind to me. I'll repay the favor by taking the lunch money from these ruffians. That's considered a good deed, right?

I realize that lately I've been spending less and less time discussing the specifics of these generic battles, and more and more time waxing philosophic on whatever happens to cross my mind. I suppose it's because battles are becoming second nature to me now, and already I'm acting as though these amateurs are not worth my words. Justified arrogance or not?

http://i49.tinypic.com/2cygpq0.jpg

You'd think they'd have learned their lesson from watching their friends kneel and grovel before me, but I suppose their IQ isn't quite high enough to make the connection. Instead, they just reveled in their obesity as they charged one after another into the gaping maw that is my Touhoumon team.

But really now, all credit should go to my worthy partners, who have displayed such immense strength and ability. They are the great equalizers of this world.

http://i50.tinypic.com/2a8mekj.jpg

Although, if Touhoumon really are the heart and soul of conflict resolution in this world, then such a power can be easily abused, can it not? I guess Team Rocket is already an example, but even these trainers wishing to pick a fight with me might be in a similar boat. (Hey, they challenged me, not the other way around!)

http://i48.tinypic.com/x1njps.jpg

Maybe I can do more during my trip. Maybe I can make a difference in this world, by taking a stand against the abuse and misuse of these wonderful creatures. Maybe I ought to make that a greater priority.

Or maybe I'm just a delusional idealist who doesn't know a thing about this world and is destined to crash and burn. Curse you, Philosophy 131A. Will I never escape your dark shadow?

http://i49.tinypic.com/2qa3ew0.jpg

At last I made it to the bottom of Cycling Road, and managed to venture forth to Fuchsia City. Prior to arriving, though, I stopped by in a grassy patch to chat with the locals.

http://i45.tinypic.com/9i9sup.jpg

Unfortunately, it seems the locals are certified cloudcuckoolanders, so that was rather a waste of time. If I wanted to see people shout gibberish at me, I might as well just head back to the university.

But Fuchsia City itself was great! Never before have I seen so many species of Touhoumon all found in a single place. A few could be seen around town...

http://i49.tinypic.com/11sgn5h.jpg

...but most lived in the Safari Zone. I suppose one can question the ethical nature of such a place, but the wardens assure me that this is akin to a reservation, except it allows a controlled form of adoption (careful not to use the word "poaching"). It's no worse than the wild regarding random people coming to beat them up and capture them, that's for sure.

http://i50.tinypic.com/f3gmzr.jpg

And what amazing variety was available! I spent what felt like hours here, yet I'm sure I still haven't yet seen all that this place has to offer. More trips are probably in order.

http://i47.tinypic.com/auf2fb.jpg

While I'm impressed with the place, I got to say: I'm not pleased with the competency of the staff here. Littering runs rampant, as I found all sorts of junk just lying around on the ground. The nerve of some people! It's like the park wardens aren't even trying! Posting a sign asking for a lost object, when the object in question was lying two feet away in plain sight? Looks like the warden is missing his glasses as well as his teeth.

http://i50.tinypic.com/2mpg8s3.jpg

I wonder how much I could sell these for?

And then there was the promotional giveaway being offered at the secret house...

http://i47.tinypic.com/257f5g3.jpg

Are we really to believe that no one has ever found this place before? It's like as if this park were a monument to incompetency. It's now my working theory that the entire population of Fuchsia is born with poor eyesight.

Thankfully, I happen to have a pair of perfectly functioning eyes. Which means I can take in the full glory of the variety of Touhoumon present in the Safari Zone.

http://i50.tinypic.com/2hmes6s.jpg

With so many choices, it's obviously quite hard to decide. Although, I have no idea who most of these girls are. I think they were before my time.

http://i47.tinypic.com/24oosvl.jpg

Out of time already? Oh, poo. Looks like this place will be getting plenty of my money as I make more trips here in the foreseeable future.

Aye, lots of choices here. Let's just start simple by dividing up the new characters between PC-98 and Windows. We'll begin with the Windows characters (I could say UFO characters, but I'm gonna cram Rin Satsuki here lol).

A. Kogasa Tatara (Ghost/Flying, tank)
B. Ichirin Kumoi and Unzan (Normal/Fighting, mixed sweeper)
C. Murasa Minamitsu (Ghost/Water, special sweeper)
D. Shou Toramaru (Electric/Ground, physical or mixed sweeper)
E. Byakuren Hijiri (Psychic/Fighting, physical, special, or mixed sweeper)
F. Nue Houjou (Dark/Flying, annoyer, of course)
G. Rin Satsuki (Grass/Flying, special sweeper)

Voting for the PC-98 characters will probably come next chapter, after I deal with Koga.

(For those of you playing along at home, you may have trouble finding Kogasa and Murasa, because both are missing from Aqua's list of Touhoumon locations. Murasa can be fished up in Area 1, Kogasa likewise is fished up in Area 2.)

(Yes, I'm still missing a few pictures because I haven't yet encountered everything in the Safari Zone. I think I'm missing Elly and Yuki. I'm not sure if Rika is even found here, though...I think she might be in Altering Cave)

The path between Lavender and Fuchsia, Routes 12-15, are very long and very boring, filled with tons and tons of random trainers. To stave off the boredom, I had to think of...something.

Let's Play Touhoumon - Chapter 5-3

A girl flying around on an umbrella? There could only be one name for this...

http://i48.tinypic.com/3c1ua.jpg

Given all the experiences spread among an ever-growing team, some training between sessions is often necessary. But this is when I get to exercise my munchkin tendencies, which permits me to do whatever when it really matters.

http://i46.tinypic.com/2yuzq4p.jpg

As awesome as getting a giant purple umbrella to join my team, something even greater happened today. Yes, something that made everything that this world has shown me just click together. While traveling back up the enormous route between Fuchsia City and Lavender Town, I had a lot of time to think as I mindless hacked my way through dozens of trainers. All this thinking made me realize just what was going on in this world. At last, everything is starting to make sense.

I believe I've finally figured out what world this is. It's not the Gensokyo I once thought it was. It may be something entirely different. I think it may actually be...the afterlife.

http://i47.tinypic.com/34rcck1.jpg

Now, OK, I know I sound absolutely insane right now, but bear with me for a moment here. I'm not saying it's the afterlife because I have definitive proof that everyone here is dead; far from it! No, I'm saying it because everything around me reminds me of something I've seen some time ago, back in the real world. In the real world, it was regarded merely as a piece of fiction, but here, it seems like fiction has taken on a life of its own. Which, if you think about it, makes perfect sense, given the nature of Gensokyo. Of course, it's not identical to what it was like back when I knew it; a whole ton of things have been changed. But many of the principles which governed the world appear to be the same, and from that I can extrapolate more.

http://i46.tinypic.com/a2rvdk.jpg

Earlier, I had said that this wasn't Gensokyo. Perhaps I should have clarified a bit: this isn't the main world that I knew as Gensokyo. Perhaps it's an afterlife that's connected to Gensokyo itself, and thus was able to manifest despite originally being fiction. Hey, Gensokyo already has like half a dozen different versions of the afterlife; what's one more? I'd venture to guess that when I was trying to enter Gensokyo, I just missed and accidentally stumbled upon one of its afterlives instead.

Allow me to present the reasons why I believe this world to be a fictionalized afterlife, as well as my own conjectures:

http://i46.tinypic.com/167juki.jpg

Exhibit A: The people appear to know, and even come from, specific areas of the real world (like Lt. Surge). However, they appear to be trapped here, as though this place were some sort of purgatory or limbo. In order to leave, so to speak, perhaps they have to accomplish a certain task of some sort.

http://i48.tinypic.com/34qtwt5.jpg

Exhibit B: Only some of the people in this world appear to be what I will now refer to as "Player Characters". The rest are all "Non-Player Characters", who have minimal interaction with PCs. They still serve to assist the PCs in a limited role, or possibly antagonize them at times. Older people seem to have a much greater likelyhood of being NPCs. This explains why law enforcement is so terrible here: they're all NPCs!

(Yes, I know I sound crazy using these silly terms here. Who knew the afterlife was an RPG?)

http://i47.tinypic.com/10ris20.jpg

Exhibit C: PCs have been given notable powers through tools, in the form of Touhoumon. This gives them the capacity for combat, should they desire so. This must be why there are so many children running around unattended: they have the means to protect themselves. (And, morbidly speaking, they're dead, so their parents aren't around.)

http://i50.tinypic.com/2ywuvz9.jpg

Exhibit D: I still have not heard of a single instance of anyone dying in this world anywhere, but all the way back at Lavender Town, I remember reading some sign about being "erased". Why the euphemism? Simply put: people can no longer die here, only disappear.

http://i46.tinypic.com/2btj5x.jpg

Exhibit E: There appears to be some sort of dark force capable of hypnotizing NPCs and brainwashing them into conformity zombies. I know just where I've seen this before.

http://i45.tinypic.com/20j23nm.jpg

Exhibit F: Sinister math nerds. That is all.

And here are a few more of my guesses, if the world operates according to what I'm envisioning:

http://i47.tinypic.com/2luz792.jpg

Conjecture #1: The arbiters of this world must follow specific rules in order for people to disappear. They can't just go making people vanish willy-nilly. The PCs thus have some degree of control over what happens to them.

http://i47.tinypic.com/hswbq9.jpg

Conjecture #2: The identity of the arbiters may be none other than the gym leaders, who attempt to enforce obedience to the rules of this afterlife game. PCs are allowed to challenge them for some reason.

http://i45.tinypic.com/x6kexl.jpg

Conjecture #3: I myself, since I am not dead yet, must serve a different purpose here in this world. It should be my duty, then, to help those who are playing in earnest.

Oh, wait, I still haven't mentioned what I think this place is yet? Isn't it obvious? There's only one possible fictional work that satisfies all of the observations I just mentioned. Sure, it's not identical, but I feel confident in my assumption that this world at least follows the same rules. All we're missing is the amnesiac protagonist, and then we'll be good to go! As for the work itself? Well, I suppose I should just come out and say it for those who haven't figured it out yet.

I'm in the world of Angel Beats!

http://i48.tinypic.com/nz51mq.jpg

Now all I have to do is find an emotionally repressed girl with awesome powers and team up with her to battle the evil forces of Haruhi Suzumiya those who refuse to play by the system while helping people move on to the next step of the afterlife. Whew, that's a mouthful. Well, that's anime for you.

If my hunches are correct, then I ought to start acting the part. If this world really is a limbo where those who die young get to live out their lives to the fullest before moving on, then I should help them out. All right, let's get started!

Hey, kid. What's your dream?

http://i45.tinypic.com/bex2s6.jpg

An admirable dream, to be sure. Let me give you some pointers, then. First off, when facing an opponent with superior levels, you can't just take the direct approach, even if you are using super-effective attacks. I'll have the advantage in a straightforward damage race. Instead, you should value making my Touhoumon skip turns with paralysis and other effects.

There you go! That was good. But remember, you can't just rest on those laurels. What if your opponent had a cleric on their side to heal away negative status effects? Now you're in trouble again! You need to prioritize eliminating key targets before cruising to victory. For example, say your opponent has a strong physical wall. You need to lure it out, maybe trap it, then defeat it first, before sending out your physical sweeper to clean up.

Chin up, you'll get it one day. Keep at it!

All right, who's next?

http://i45.tinypic.com/2r1zi1h.jpg

You want your Touhoumon to be happy? Well, happiness is something that's easily measurable with numbers! Remember that happiness gains diminish the higher your current happiness level is, and that much of it is gained through leveling up or walking around with the Touhoumon in your party, although grooming and vitamins also work. Contrary to popular belief, winning battles, giving hold items, getting status afflictions, or putting a Touhoumon in the PC all have no bearing on happiness values. Oh, and don't worry about the fact that I just caused your Touhoumon to faint. That only decreases the value by a mere 1 point.

And you say you want Carbos? It's great for raising speed EVs, but if you can't afford it there are a multitude of ways to get the same results. EV gains are independent of level, so defeating many weak wild Touhoumon will get you lots of EVs with relatively little experience gain or effort, raising your stats quickly. If you want speed EVs, the multitude of common chibi Chens and Mystias on Route 1 are a good target.

http://i47.tinypic.com/dpjyc6.jpg

You want a great big catch? Well, I don't really know much about fishing...I'll pass.

You want a Moon Stone? Well, I guess I do have one lying around somewhere, but...they're pretty valuable...eh...I think I'd rather keep it. Sorry.

(OK, so maybe I'm not so good at this "helping people move on" kind of thing.)

Oh, bother. Another one of these turtles blocking the way.

http://i47.tinypic.com/20rmw53.jpg

Thankfully, Magical Mary has just learned the perfect thing to send you packing. Eat super-effective 95 base power with STAB!

All right, back to helping people!

http://i47.tinypic.com/21n48yv.jpg

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to, I mean...oh, why do you have to make this so difficult? Marriage should be such a joyous thing, one that's certainly enough to make you both disappear and move on, and yet...a thousand apologies!

Wow, I'm really not very good at this, am I? OK, just one more time...

http://i49.tinypic.com/2u40dfk.jpg

Oh snap!

http://i49.tinypic.com/eqxqf6.jpg

Oh, wait, the fisherman dude. Ah, uh...what were we talking about again? Something about catching a big fish?

So, it looks like Magical Mary went from being one of my weaker characters to being death on a broomstick. Fun.

For the Fuchsia gym, Mukyue, Shinku, Miyazaki, Poppins, Tachikoma and Magic Mary. Several of them are resistant to poison type attacks, not to mention that there might be several bug or grass type touhoumon in Koga's gym.

Can we get a list of the Touhoumon you have at the moment? I'm liable to forget some otherwise and that would be a shame.

Also Maribel seems to have a rather large blind spot to miss which afterlife she has ended up in a variant of. But i guess even nerdy psychology students might not catch everything.

Here's what our current team looks like, in order of recruitment:

EX Marisa - Electric/Fire, special sweeper
Alice - Ice/Psychic, special sweeper
Ran - Ground/Psychic, physical sweeper
Wriggle - Bug, cleric
Aya - Normal/Flying, physical sweeper
Patchouli - Psychic, special sweeper
Yamame - Bug/Ground, tank
Meiling - Fighting, physical wall
Youmu - Ghost/Steel, physical sweeper
Kogasa - Ghost/Flying, tank

A few notes: Steel is no longer immune to Poison; it's now only resistant to it. Also, one of Koga's strongest Touhoumon (lvl 45 EX Hina) is very fast and packs Shadowball, which will probably OHKO a good number of our team.

Bonus! Yeah, I know it sucks that I was only able to pick one member of the UFO team, especially since they actually make a very balanced and strong team on their their own. Here's what might have been:

It might help you, I guess. Eventually.

And argh, EIchirin is Fighting/Normal? Fighting/Ghost would be a lot cooler. Damn. Also wow, Pure Power.

As for the next gym, I suggest CRUSHING PUNY LITTLE GIRLS WITH THE POWER OF CHINA. And firing beams at them with Marisa just because.

And argh, EIchirin is Fighting/Normal? Fighting/Ghost would be a lot cooler. Damn. Also wow, Pure Power.

I think Ichirin is Fighting/Normal because Unzan is Fighting and Ichirin is Normal (seriously, does she have any distinguishing features on her own?). And yes, Pure Power is ridiculous on that pair. 276 attack at level 55? Absolutely insane! (And I didn't even give her an attack-boosting nature! Can you imagine 300+ attack at that level?)

There is a Fighting/Ghost type in this game, though. It's actually one of the legendaries, which was name-dropped by a random trainer in the previous segment.

Also, I'll admit I chuckled at the visual pun with Kanade and Sonic.

Drascin
2010-06-08, 04:33 PM
...yeah, Shadowball spam is going to be a problem with our team. Make sure to bring Tachikoma to tank and whittle the HP down (she has good enough defenses to take it, right? I haven't actually played Touhoumon to know how good a tank Yamame is), and Asakura for a finisher (being Normal type, she's immune to Shadowball, which I think is likely the enemy's biggest offensive move, right?).

Miyazaki will make a great hitter for the whole gym, being double resistant to poison, but shouldn't be faced with Hina at all. Believe it! is also likely to come in handy - psychic means supereffectiveness, and Ground means extra resistance - but again, Shadowball is death. Then, if Mary already has fire attacks on hand, we can bring her to deal with the Grass types in the place. Sixth place is up to you, though I'd personally consider Wriggle.

This was probably my favorite gym challenge yet to do. I got to use everyone who received at least 2 votes as well.

Let's Play Touhoumon - Chapter 5-4

OK...I'm willing to admit when I'm wrong. It seems those assumptions I made last time about being in the afterlife of Angel Beats! wasn't quite on the mark. No matter what I try, no one seems to be disappearing when I make them happy. Or maybe I'm just really bad at this kind of thing.

I tried again when I got back to Fuchsia. This time, the good deed was to deliver those gold teeth I found to the Safari Zone warden. But rather than moving on to the next step of the afterlife, he just gave me another HM. Lame.

http://i45.tinypic.com/mw6rdz.jpg

Don't get me wrong; having China-Li kick boulders around like they were plushies is pretty fun. It's just that I thought I finally managed to figure this place out, but it looks like I'm way off the mark here.

http://i50.tinypic.com/293jewh.jpg

Ah well. Thinking that I somehow managed to gap myself into the afterlife is kind of stupid, anyway. Like that could ever happen!

So, to blow off some steam, I thought I'd go check out the local Fuchsia Gym. I think I still need those badges if I want to complete whatever it is I set off to accomplish (it's been so long, I kind of forgot). Wouldn't you know it, though, these gyms seem to be getting more and more complicated. What happened to the single mook mixing up his astronomical units? I miss those days.

http://i48.tinypic.com/2nb984m.jpg

Ha, Reapers? What is this, Soul Society? Nice try, pal, but I'm not buying the whole afterlife explanation anymore. I've learned my lesson by now!

The Fuchsia Gym looked like a large simple room, but obstructing my path were a multitude of invisible barriers. In order to get past them, it looks like I'll have to deal with these flunkies first.

http://i49.tinypic.com/r74ni8.jpg

The flunkies seemed to have the ability to lift the barriers, but they required me to complete a challenge of some sort first. Oftentimes it was just defeating them in battle, but there were a few weirder requests.

http://i48.tinypic.com/2j1k7yv.jpg

Personally, I don't like the idea of degrading myself in front of a glorified gatekeeper just to pass through. I don't mind the battles, as I'm used to them now, but there's no way I would put up with any more of the sillier requests.

http://i48.tinypic.com/32znotu.jpg

Case in point: this next guy wanted me to change in front of him. As if! Luckily, I found that regardless of the request, if I simply use brute force to beat him up, he'll have to eventually yield and let me through anyway.

http://i50.tinypic.com/2jbw18n.jpg

It seems like the rest of the gatekeepers got word of what I was doing, and became increasingly more lenient towards me anyway.

http://i48.tinypic.com/6z1qw1.jpg

Isn't it amazing just what the threat of violence can do to make people so much more agreeable?

http://i45.tinypic.com/rs4fwh.jpg

And speaking of gatekeepers...

http://i50.tinypic.com/15d3q8j.jpg

It looks like all the barriers have been cleared, and all the flunkies are now cowering before my feet. Excellent. Time to do in the main man himself. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Cx9qKsbqUY)

First post of this thread has been updated with pictures of our current team, by the way.

All right! Let's start Chapter 6 off early with another vote for a new character right away! This is the big one: nearly every PC-98 character, courtesy of the Safari Zone. Although realistically, I can already narrow down who'd win to 3 choices or so (prove me wrong!). In order of their appearance in the games:

A. Mima (Dark/Ghost, mixed sweeper)
B. Meira (Steel, physical sweeper)
C. Ellen (Psychic, special sweeper or screen pseudo-passer)
D. Kotohime (Normal, annoyer with gimmicky moves)
E. Kana Anaberal (Ghost, staller/tank)
F. Rikako Asakura (Psychic, special sweeper/support)
G. Yumemi Okazaki (Fire/Ice, special sweeper)
H. Orange (Normal, damage sponge)
I. Kurumi (Dark, annoyer)
J. Elly (Fighting, physical sweeper)
K. Mugetu (Normal, cleric/baton passer/support in general)
L. Gengetu (Dark/Flying, physical or mixed sweeper)
M. Sara (Fighting, physical wall)
N. Luize (Normal, annoyer)
O. Yuki (Fire, special sweeper)
P. Mai (Ice/Dark, special sweeper)
Q. Yumeko (Steel, physical sweeper)
R. Shinki (Dark/Psychic, special sweeper)

There...I think that's all of them from before. Hope I didn't miss anyone (Rika and Chiyuri aren't here, I think).

What bothers me somewhat is that even though it's supposed to be an all-female cast (after all, it is Touhou :V), you can still find Touhoumon that have a male insignia. I mean, I can understand if it's something that they missed during production/updates and whatnot, but that still kinda irks me nonetheless.

This is unimportant, but I had to get rid of the only Shinki that I was actually able to catch in the Safari Zone because it was male instead of female. (plus I needed the Ayanote data :smalltongue:) Don't ask me why I did it when I could have just raised it normally, I'm just crazy like that. :I

Pretty diverse voting going on here (more than I expected, for sure), but the initial assault was never toppled.

I stared at Orange for the longest time, struggling to figure out how to best use her. She's just a Blissey with worse stats and none of the supporting moves, I reasoned. Then I finally noticed her ability. Oh, OK, I could definitely use this.

Let's Play Touhoumon - Chapter 6-1

During one of my trips to the Safari Zone, I picked up a cute little girl who reminded me a lot of China-Li.

Anyway, according to my map, I still haven't been to the heart of the region: Saffron City. Originally, I had to take several detours due to those unreasonable guards who won't let anyone through. Why, I ought to head over there now and give them a piece of my-

http://i46.tinypic.com/2dlnlds.jpg

Huh. That was easy. What'd that old lady put in this tea? Hard liquor? Good thing I didn't drink it, I guess.

Upon entering Saffron City, I see now why this place had to be closed off: it was crawling with math nerds!

http://i49.tinypic.com/23rwtvr.jpg

They blockaded almost every building in town! All that was left was the Fighting Dojo. I wonder why that was left alone?

Oh well. I know when I'm being herded in a specific direction by the will of the plot, so I'll just take the bait.

http://i47.tinypic.com/293y4wg.jpg

Too bad it looks like I'm not welcome here. Actually, come to think of it, I wasn't really ever welcome at any of these gyms, now was I?

http://i47.tinypic.com/qrda2u.jpg

Right...you mysogynistic swine. Speaking of which, have you taken a good look at what gender your Touhoumon are?

Well, nothing gets me riled up like an insult directed at my gender (other than one directed at my age), so of course I'm not letting any of you muscle-brained pigs off the hook. Thankfully, it looks like my Touhoumon agree with me.

http://i45.tinypic.com/21kij49.jpg

All right, big boy! Let's see how tough you are after having your butt handed back to you on a platter by this little girl!

http://i49.tinypic.com/a4v0r5.jpg

http://i50.tinypic.com/sflcp4.jpg

OK, I've had just about enough with your attitude, mister! Your punishment shall be far worse than what your underlings experienced! I know just what to do with you, oh yes. It's not enough to simply beat you; I must also humiliate you like never before! And I happen to have something in my bag that I've been saving for just such an occasion.

http://i47.tinypic.com/4r6pua.jpg

Right now, I don't care about whether this place is Gensokyo or not. Either way, allow me to teach you firsthand about the #1 rule of Gensokyo:

http://i45.tinypic.com/rrs0ly.jpg

If it's a cute little girl, it WILL be able to obliterate you. No exceptions.

http://i49.tinypic.com/257pueq.jpg

Even without superior physical firepower, the magic of confusion hax is strong enough to overcome even the toughest of foes. True strength comes not from just muscles, but from strategy, tactics, and a little bit of luck. Take this to heart.

http://i49.tinypic.com/24gkks3.jpg

You lost because you underestimated your opponent. In Gensokyo, you would do well to never underestimate your challenger. Especially if she's a little girl with a silly hat or hair ornament.

http://i47.tinypic.com/167njww.jpg

What, you mean after all that, I don't even get a badge? What a ripoff! That's it, I'm not spending one more second in this mysogynistic rathole. This whole trip has been just a waste of time. Why, I bet there's absolutely nothing of value in here!

http://i48.tinypic.com/2aaacl3.jpg

I repeat: absolutely nothing of value.

I refuse to get the Watatsuki sisters, because 1) they are total Game Breakers, and 2) I just don't like them.

Next time: more math references! Debating on whether or not to do all of Silph Company in one segment or split it into two.

You won't even pick one up to fill out the Ayanote and then never use her?

Also i have to admit that i'm quite surprised that my motion for Orange got this much success. Though actually there are several of the PC-98 characters that i have only read short descriptions of that seem to be quite fun. Like Something-Hime who is a princess and also a police officer, seemingly just because.

They got the labeling for the Touhoumon wrong. Yorihime is the god mod sue and Toyohime is the spiteful scrappy.

Out of curiosity, is it possible to completely fill the Ayanote in this game? All three starters are catchable in the wild, but if you pick one of these, is the other one Lost Forever?

This choice is pretty important, you can get one here, but to get the other one, you'll need to get to the top of trainer tower I think.

The only real difference with these two are the stat spread, I think.

Edit: I didn't notice you weren't getting them.

Could you please explain that a bit?

Could you please explain that a bit?

Just like in Silent Sinner in Blue, the Watatsuki sisters are pretty overpowered. The only move they learn is Sketch, which they learn every 6 levels or so. Sketch lets them permanently copy any one move, so they can potentially learn almost every single move in the game. In the original Pokemon games, only Smeargle could get this move, and it was offset by the fact that Smeargle's stats were terrible (only 250). The Watatsuki sisters, on the other hand, each have a final stat total of 685, which is simply ridiculous. To give you an idea of how high that is, Mewtwo himself only has a stat total of 680. Admittedly, stat totals in Touhoumon are in general a bit better than in normal Pokemon, but the Watatsuki sisters just take it too far.

So in short, they have better stats than Mewtwo and can potentially learn nearly every move in the game. That's why they're broken.

The newer version makes them a bit weaker, lowering their stat spread to 620, which is still pretty dang good.

Who, SFlandre? In Aqua's current version, she's been toned down to a mere 605 total. Still very good, but nowhere near godly (she's actually similar to Attack Deoxys).

I'm now finding it hard to decide which Touhoumon to use in one team. I may have to re-do the Elite Four all over again with different combinations just for the hell of it. :3

Also, does Aqua's version have the Johto addition, or is it normal Kanto & Sevii Islands?

Just normal Kanto and Sevii islands. The Johto addition is Japanese only, as far as I know.

Let's Play Touhoumon - Chapter 6-2

Team Rocket's activity in Saffron City seems to be centered around Silph Co., the towering building at the heart of the city. If I'm to ever get into the Gym, I'd need some way to break their stranglehold on the city. But how could I break in to their base of operations?

Wait, I know! I've still got that red pin from earlier. If our earlier hunches are correct regarding Team Rocket and these pins, then maybe this'll work. I'll just wear it prominently and start pretending I'm a mindless zombie or something.

How did it go again?

"To right the countless wrongs of our day, we shine this, uh, flashlight of true redemption..."

http://i48.tinypic.com/t03ipu.jpg

Heh heh heh...sucker!

I don't really think this flimsy cover is going to hold for much longer once I'm inside, though. Might as well switch to the classic Plan B: beat up everyone in sight!

http://i48.tinypic.com/2z3uolf.jpg

Unfortunately, unlike most examples from the past, brute force alone won't get me through this ordeal. Silph Co. is practically a maze of locked rooms and ravenous employees. It's like an actual office building, except without the helpful directory map. What lousy customer service!

http://i47.tinypic.com/210zjwp.jpg

But the question I really want to know is why this place has teleportation pads that lead to random places installed? I didn't even realize such technology was available yet!

To avoid disorienting myself even further, I decided to refrain from using any teleportation pads for now, and just make my way up the building by the stairs.

http://i49.tinypic.com/if031u.jpg

As expected, each floor was crawling with more aggressive math nerds. You know, I really don't remember them being this cutthroat in real life. Well, except in regards to the grade curve in Calculus class.

http://i50.tinypic.com/2w68cjp.jpg

But for some reason, Team Rocket weren't the only enemy trainers present here. There were a few disgruntled Silph Co. scientists, disguised as docile employees, who seemed to have it in for me. Then there was this guy.

http://i50.tinypic.com/30jnyh5.jpg

...What? What's a clown doing here? Nevermind, I don't want to know.

Anyway, by the time I had fought my way up to the 5th floor, I realized this wasn't really getting me anywhere. Much of each floor remained inaccessible due to the locked electronic doors, and I can imagined it'd only get worse as I go further up. If I'm to successfully navigate this place, I'm going to need a way to get past them. Rather than search every nook and cranny for who-knows-what, I decided to try for the more direct approach: finding a rat to squeal for me.

http://i50.tinypic.com/96m6w3.jpg

It's amazing what just the threat of torture can accomplish. You don't even need to get your hands dirty!

The wayward scientist told me everything I needed to know to get the key for myself. All I had to do was take out the few Rockets guarding the hall where it was hidden...

http://i46.tinypic.com/o76kyc.jpg

...and soon I had unlimited access against this building's security. It's a good thing they didn't try for multiple levels of security clearance!

(Way to cut back on your security budget, Silph Co.!)

http://i46.tinypic.com/2j50wf5.jpg

As I had expected, several of the employees here have already become mindless zombies, sporting those fashionable red pins.

http://i45.tinypic.com/5pgzk0.jpg

On floor 6, I freed a bunch of employees from the Rockets guarding the conference room, but that didn't really help much, given that they were a bit too brainless to escape in their current condition. I couldn't really expect any different, considering how the door was already open and all. It might be wiser to just go for the source of this incident at this point. My gut tells me it's at the top of this building. (Isn't it always?)

http://i50.tinypic.com/34oudrp.jpg

So upwards I continued, laying waste to any Rockets that crossed my path. It eventually became clear to me that not all employees of Silph Co. had been captured and converted by the Rockets. Some were able to hide or lock themselves in and attempt to wait out the situation. It makes me shudder to think just what they planned on doing if this siege were to last for days or even weeks.

http://i50.tinypic.com/2zrepll.jpg

Actually, come to think of it, if I ever see any so-called "employee" standing out in the open and not locked in a room or hiding behind a potted plant, they're probably an enemy.

http://i45.tinypic.com/n2ojzc.jpg

I found one group of desperate survivors locked inside a small meeting room. After disposing of the Team Rocket grunt trying to break in, I was able to glean some useful information from the Silph employees. They informed me that Team Rocket was after their broadcasting equipment. As the tallest building in the region, they needed Silph Co. to broadcast the signal to activate the red pins that they've been passing out. Graze Tower had just been a test; Silph Co. was the real plan.

http://i48.tinypic.com/jsk9qu.jpg

Armed with this new piece of information, I fought my way up floors 8 and 9, thinking that my goal was in sight. Little did I know, this building still had more surprises in store for me.

http://i46.tinypic.com/11mg45s.jpg

Thankfully, I found a kind Silph employee who gave my Touhoumon and I a place to rest for a moment. This whole ordeal has been rather long and arduous thus far, and I must still humbly ask my companions to press on and endure.

http://i49.tinypic.com/14l0vuu.jpg

Oh! But I just realized that I'm leaving these security doors open, allowing even the Team Rocket members to come in after I've left. Ooh, I guess I'm putting these poor people in a grave situation, aren't I? How stupid of me.

I'm going to have to step it up and end their occupation as fast as I can, to bring an end to this at once.

http://i50.tinypic.com/313nli0.jpg

At last, I made it to the 11th and final floor! But something wasn't right: this was just a dead end with a lone grunt to keep me busy. It seems the stairs alone weren't enough; I'll need the teleportation pads to get to where I need to be.

After a frantic sweep of the building, I finally located the sole teleporter that took me to a new location. However, I certainly did not expect the person who greeted me upon my arrival.

http://i50.tinypic.com/2wgc22o.jpg

What was Renko doing here? She certainly doesn't sound like she's brainwashed. And even though she suggested a battle, I didn't get the feeling that she was hostile either. But that still doesn't answer my question. Maybe I'll get some answers after sparing a few moments to defeat her again.

http://i47.tinypic.com/2aeuwzd.jpg

As always, she started off with her Aya, only now she had evolved into her EX form. She was actually faring rather well, too, but Renko opted to switch out in order to challenge me and Miko Miyazaki to a mirror match. I think she's a bit too fond of mirror matches.

http://i48.tinypic.com/ebelnr.jpg

It was a poor choice on her part, though, as that allowed Miyazaki to sweep through both her Youmu and Patchouli with the ever-useful Shadow Ball. Our sweeping spree was stopped cold by the arrival of EX Sakuya, though, who quickly turned the tables on us.

http://i49.tinypic.com/14d1qio.jpg

Luckily, China-Li was there to pick up where Miyazaki left off, and continued to sweep the rest of Renko's team. A quick victory when I'm already admittedly pressed for time.

http://i50.tinypic.com/iqvw9w.jpg

Renko wouldn't tell me much even after I had won, though. She just told me she'd leave Team Rocket to me and that she'd be heading to the Indigo Plateau. Hmm, I guess everyone important that I meet seem to have a penchant for that place. I don't think I've mentioned the Plateau to her before, have I?

I wonder just what she has to do with the Elite Four? Come to think of it, she was the first person to tell me about the 8 gym badges and the Elite Four, at the very beginning of our journey. Hey, how'd she even know about that anyway? I feel like for the first time ever, I'm not quite sure what to make of my old friend.

http://i50.tinypic.com/34zlohh.jpg

One last Rocket stood between me and their boss, who was currently stationed in the Silph Co. President's office. Once he was taken care of, I had just one more task to accomplish: defeating Giovanni.

As usual, he had to announce his presence with such pomp. This time, though, it seemed like he was in a more talkative mood.

http://i48.tinypic.com/2rmrqfk.jpg

I was tempted to make an emo joke at his villain rant, but I realized that now probably wasn't a good time. His plan to brainwash the people of this world was to...create peace and eliminate evil? Wait, what? Maybe I should have paid more attention to what those zombie folk are saying.

There was no time for me to wax philosophic with him, though. It was clear that he wasn't interested in what I had to say, so there was only one way to answer him.

http://i47.tinypic.com/riwvx0.jpg

Playing for keeps, eh? Then I guess that means I'd better not hold back either.

I've been waiting for an opportunity to do this.

http://i46.tinypic.com/2njvcrb.jpg

Now, boss, we play for keeps!

http://i46.tinypic.com/2sb22qw.jpg

With her final evolution, Mukyue was statistically superior to Giovanni's Dark Rumia. Through her evolution, Mukyue traded in some of her offensive strength for a massive boost to her defenses, channeling her immense raw magic into a powerful protective aura. Knowing this, the Dark Rumia immediately sacrificed herself to cause some notable damage, even despite Mukyue's magical resistances.

http://i50.tinypic.com/28m0579.jpg
http://i46.tinypic.com/33erck2.jpg

And while she may be a bulwark of magic, Mukyue still woefully lacks in speed, letting pretty much anyone run circles around her. But for all their speed, it did them little good.

http://i49.tinypic.com/157jhb4.jpg

Giovanni's last Touhoumon was different, though. Rather than sacrificing herself to do some damage, his EX Suika spent ample time bolstering her evasion by shrinking her size over and over again. I think I lost count of the number of times our attacks missed. Eventually, the EX Suika turned to offense, and we were forced to beat a hasty retreat.

At this point, I was cursing myself for not healing up my team after the bout with Renko, as Miyazaki's Aerial Ace would be really nice right about now. Renko, what was that for?

http://i50.tinypic.com/2dbq7et.jpg

Believe it! tried in vain to break through Giovanni's strategy, and it all came down to a single timely attack from Shinku to end this surprisingly difficult final fight.

http://i50.tinypic.com/2ptyvxc.jpg

Giovanni seemed quite displeased, to say the least. With his entire team defeated and himself now hanging his head in shame, he was furious at me for not understanding his vision. I admit, even I began to have some doubts crop up regarding just what was going on here. I feel like I've been herded to this position by some unseen force, without spending the time to question everything that had taken place.

And who is this Conductor fellow? I think that's the second time someone's mentioned him.

An unexpected blackout soon followed, and when the lights came back on, Giovanni and all of his Rocket goons were nowhere to be seen.

http://i48.tinypic.com/2vmhahu.jpg

The president of Silph Co. commended me, as their hero in their darkest hour, for the defeat of Team Rocket. As a gift, he presented me with the Master Orb, which was guarenteed to catch any Touhoumon without fail. I thanked him for his abundant generosity and-

Hey, if you're so rich, why don't you go beef up the security in this place, especially after an incident such as this? For starters, you could have more levels of security clearance, and a better way of contacting the authorities for help, and-

Oh, wait, I forgot again. Law enforcement is useless in this world.

Whew, that was a long one! OK, next up on our agenda: who shall be the among the lucky 6 to take on Sabrina? I'd like to avoid using Patchy now, as Dark types make it a bit too easy.

To see who's available, just look at the group picture in the first post of this thread (updated at the end of each chapter). Remember that Orange is now part of the team, and that a few characters have evolved since.

I think Poppins, Miyazaki, Souseiseki, Tachikoma, Orange, and Believe it would work well, as Bug type moves and ghost type moves are effective against psychic types. I also anticipate that several of the touhoumon in the gym will have relatively low defenses.

Sabrina isn't as tough as Koga was, but she definitely isn't a pushover. High Special Defense stat will save your life this time around, so Poppins is a definite. Any with Bug/Ghost moves will also work. If you haven't taught any of your Touhoumon the Sonicboom TM yet, I recommend teaching it to someone who can use it, like Miyazaki.

Also, prepare for some massive Psychic spam. I was caught offguard and, well, it wasn't pretty. o_o

Would anyone happen to know what Final Marisa/Remilia/Sakuya are good at?

Also, assuming I have no other grass types, is it stupid/redundant of me to have both Kanako and (either Final or EX, as soon as I decide) Marisa? For the record, I have eight on the team now and try to keep them at the same level.

Anyways, any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Actually, it's nine, but I may ditch some since that's getting ridiculous. In fact, even if you don't know what the difference is, feel free to pick evolutions and so forth, since I'm indecisive :smalltongue: Thanks in advance for any input. Feel free to tell me to catch more stuff too, though the team's huge already.

Level 36 Yamame, caught in Yamame's tunnel at level 34, two more levels to EX.

Level 37 Parsee, caught in the tunnel at 37 (the place is a gold mine, I tell you), one more level to EX, never let out of the box and is presumably jealous of the ones that get to participate, intend to train this one soon now that everyone's caught up.

Final Patchouli, caught at level 12ish, level 37.

Remilia, either Final at some point with a moon stone or EX at level 44. Caught at level 17, now 37.

Yuyuko, going to go Advent here, level 37, caught at 15.

Marisa, caught at level 6 in Viridian Forest, now 36. Could go Final (forgot which stone, was it moon?) or EX. Advent isn't to my liking.

Kanako, level 36, caught at 14ish. Going EX at 44.

EX Wriggle, caught at 7ish, now 38.

Sakuya, my starter, now 36. Again, could go Final with a moon stone or EX next level. I've only got one moon stone, so please bear that in mind.

Oh, and there's a level 36 (EX at 44) Utsuho too. So that's ten. And I intend to level up a Toyohime (on a "seems like a waste not to" basis, though I have no idea who the character is) and a level five Nitori eventually. Yes I get carried away.

I feel I should triage the team at this point. If you think any need to be cut, let me know, I appreciate any help. Turbo mode can only ease the pain of grinding so much.

Mirrinus: I hope you use a map for Saffron Gym. For the sake of your sanity. That place... gah. So horrible. It'll be curbstomped by Final Patchouli and Remilia, not to mention Wriggle and Yamame. I just need to get past Renko at Silph Co. first (L41 Aya, L44 Reimu, raege).

All Final evolutions have stats designed for tanking (100+ in both defenses and HP).

Doesn't really matter. Marisa's fast, Kanako's slow. Marisa gets a bunch of unique electric moves like Blazing Star. 2 electric types is no big deal.

Thing is, pretty much every single character is usable in this game. Some are just better than others, but even the worst is still leagues ahead of the worst things you find in Pokemon. I can't really say much more beyond personal preference.

Are you using the Touhoudex wiki? Because that's outdated and only for the original Japanese version. If you're playing Aqua's version (same one I'm using), then Advent Yuyuko should only have a 580 stat total (which is still well above average, even for this game).

And yes, I did think so. Partly since Romhacks often take some... artistic license, partly because I don't second-guess anything in the actual dialogue boxes like Giovanni's sudden messianic delusions,, and partly because I know nothing of TWEWY.

Sorry, she doesn't get any super-unique moves that only she gets. She does share Occult Dance (lvl 55 Advent Yuyuko) with Mima and maybe one or two other characters (ghost-type Superpower move, good for mixed sweeping sets). There's also Petal Storm (lvl 50 AYuyuko), a steel-type 95 bp move that she shares with Youmu and Youki (I think it's suppose to be one of Youmu's spellcards from SWR). She's very versatile, so you can use her as a sweeper, cleric, annoyer, or even tank.

Good enough.

Also, I'm lacking in the subtlety department, so I only really deal in tanks and sweepers. Thanks, anyway. Advent time!

Edit: Honestly, I pretty much picked Yuyuko because she's one of the best boss fights in the entire series :smalltongue:

Mirrinus: I hope you use a map for Saffron Gym. For the sake of your sanity. That place... gah. So horrible. It'll be curbstomped by Final Patchouli and Remilia, not to mention Wriggle and Yamame. I just need to get past Renko at Silph Co. first (L41 Aya, L44 Reimu, raege).
It's been a long time since I last played this game (the official versions at least), but if I'm not mistaken... if you ALWAYS go to the same direction, you'll end up in all rooms and eventually in Sabrina's room. Or was it always going up/down? I don't remember how it was exactly, but it's easier than you think.

Let's Play Touhoumon - Chapter 6-3

Saffron Gym, eh? The mystical bastion of psychic powers in this region? Sounds like an exciting place to be spending my vacation! Ooh, I better take pictures and talk to the students and...I wonder if they allow flash photography?

http://i50.tinypic.com/4s1g12.jpg

Yeah, yeah, thanks for telling me what I already know. You'd think I'd have figured this out by now if I'm already on the 6th gym, huh?

You know, being a tourist is great, though. See, when you're a tourist, people give you these nifty maps and guides that show you where to go. Look: I've got an entire map of this gym's teleportation floor structure! Apparently, they're available from the Saffron travel agency. Kind of silly of them to have this obstacle for challenging trainers, isn't it?

Actually, just kidding. Everyone knows you're suppose to always take the teleporter directly above or below you each time.

http://i49.tinypic.com/2cwvfh3.jpg

Ooh, how suspenseful! I get to meet with a real-life psychic and all of her students! Hey, hey, are you an Esper? Show me your powers!

http://i50.tinypic.com/14jby55.jpg

Yeah, yeah, that's great that she beat up the mysogynistic pig next door, but what about your powers? Are you going to life a cup of coffee with telekinesis? Or light a stick on fire with your mind?

Don't tell me something lame like if your powers only worked in closed space or whatever!

http://i50.tinypic.com/2pzz9mb.jpg

...

That's it?

Of course I want to see Sabrina! Why would ANYONE ever come here if they didn't? To see you two-bit hacks?

Can you tell me what I'm thinking of right now?

(Hint: it involves my fist and your face.)

http://i47.tinypic.com/w9k9kl.jpg

Oh. Is that all I have to do beat her? No magic incantations, no unplugging controller ports, no praying several times? Just will it, and it'll happen?

I'm willing for a cheese sandwich, I'm willing for a cheese sandwich...

http://i50.tinypic.com/zminar.jpg

...

Your psychic powers are surprisingly lame. Even I foresaw this!

You know, I take back all my excitement over visiting this place. It seems like no one here has any mystical power worth mentioning. Why, I bet your leader Sabrina can't do a single thing to-

http://i48.tinypic.com/24l0v9i.jpg

...What? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UT8Wh-EpjvE)

Eh, that was a short chapter (even though Silph Co. took forever for me to do). Let's start the next character vote early! Here are the new characters I have access to, whether by surfing, fossil revival at Cinnabar Island, or other events:

A. Komachi Onozuka (Water/Ghost, physical sweeper with some annoyer options)
B. Letty Whiterock (Ice/Rock, tank or physical sweeper)
C. VIVIT (Fire, sunnybeaming special sweeper)
D. Layla Prismriver (Psychic/Ghost, glass cannon sweeper, like a weaker Attack Deoxys)
E. PC-98 Reimu Hakurei (Psychic/Fighting, very balanced mixed sweeper)
F. Dolls (Normal, very versatile as it can evolve into:)
>> Shanghai Doll (Normal/Fire, sweeper, baton passes Tailwind for physical sweeping)
>> Hourai Doll (Normal/Psychic, tank, cleric, baton passes Mana Charge or Calm Mind)

For now, vote for just the Dolls if you want either Shanghai or Hourai. If it wins, we'll vote for what to do with them next.

Look, I'm learning! I even remembered to get pictures this time!

France, Holland, Tibet, Kyoto, London, Russia, Orleans!

Wait, what was I going to say? Let me try that again.

I see the psychic gym leader likes to pull off some weird Metal Gear Solid stuff. Wonder how they coded that in. Other than actual psychic powers of course.

Now, on whom to vote...
I was going to say VIVIT but isn't that too much of a fanboy option? Nuclear robot maid apparently inspired by Nanoha character designs?

Let's go with VIVIT anyway.

Also, poor Kogasa. Her intimidate never works.

Do I vote for the robot maid who runs on Getter Rays Spiral Power Saboten Energy or do I vote for the lazy Shinigami?

I'm going with Komachi. Nickname her Rangiku, but beware of Shikieiki regardless of nickname.

As a side note, VIVIT does not run on nuclear power, that robot maid is Ruukoto from Phantasmagoria of Dimensional Dream.

Edit: Hakurei Miko ability is broken. It allows a move that works like curse in pokemon to give the benefits without lowering speed, when the Pokemon equivalent ability clear body or white smoke allows stat lose from a pokemon's own moves, but not from the opponent's. Was this a programing oversight or what?

I noticed that, as well.

It's quite intentional. I assume so, anyway, what with Sabrina using that curse-esque move over and over and over to devastating effect. Against me, anyway. I'm in awe of how well Mirrinus handled that boss, and he didn't have three dark pokemon like I did. I was level 46~47 (and a 43 Shinki) at the time, but still. Nice one

My vote is for Hakurei. Why? Not really a fan of any of the options and I find this the most interesting mechanically speaking.

Edit: Giovanni and the Renko fight shortly afterwards have been utterly stomped, courtesty of grinding to L51 beforehand. Glee. In Victory Road now.

Also also. Heart Break. Is it a physical or special move? That kinda dictates whether it goes to Shinki or Remi.

I think Heartbreak is special, given that it's a dark type move. Don't know why it'd be any different.

Regarding Hakurei Miko ability: if you think Focus Flight is bad, do take note that Hakurei can learn Psycho Boost. Yeah...

Shiva asori
2010-06-18, 12:48 PM
I don't think hakurei miko works with psycho boost, or at least it doesn't in the latest version.

What is nasty is that Hakurei also learns calm mind and extrasenseory naturally as well and can get brick break from a TM.

And a bit of advice if Mirrinus wants some...
Anyways, I suggest that Mirrinus makes a team of 6 marisa and start stealing the things that Ctewi (lucky egg), Creisen (moon stone) and Cyukari (sun stone) hold when Mirrinus has time (if Mirrinus wants to), Mirrinus won't regret it when it comes time to grind for E4 round 2 and wants some sunstones and extra moon stones for E4 round 1. Also since this is a firered hack, people can use gameshark codes to get things like shell bells and scope lenses.

Thanks. Only reason I thought otherwise was the clawing animation. Guess Shinki just got a replacement for Faint Attack, then.

Also, going through the power plant now. I forgot how much of a hellish experience catching Zapdos (or its replacement, as the case may be) was. I should get something with hypnosis or a move to that effect. Paralysis would work fine too. And it's definitely getting some sort of Majora's Mask reference :smalltongue:

I admit, I was tempted to name it after a certain spiteful non-fruit object in IWBTG as well.

Edit: Sevii finished (ohgodgrinding), legendaries caught, up to the Mewtwo replacement now. That was... embarrassing.

"Wriggle used Wriggle Kick! Spoiler fainted!" One shot. Kiiiinda sad. It is a sudden massive level drop from Sevii, mind. Oh, and Cerulean Cave is amazing. Full of Final, EX and Last Word forms of all kinds of characters, including Reimu/Marisa/Sakuya. And Suwako.

Incidentally, some of the sprites - final forms in particular - are absurdly awesome. I'd put them up here, but I'm worried that that would bug Mirrinus if he eventually wants to show it. All stuff that's been voted on already, anyway. So, Mirrinus, would that be okay with you?

Anyway, wouldn't be a post or edit from me without a call for help. Does anyone have a good name for a certain character? Spoilered in case anyone finds their very existence a spoiler, but I doubt that.

Sariel. Thoughts?

Naming's done, legendaries are all caught.

More pertinently, I finished round two of the Elite Four. My god, that was torturous. But also fun. Won on the first try, if only just, though I did use massive amounts of max potions and revives.

Team was about level 83 at the time. Massively outmatched. Consisted of EX Sakuya, EX Marisa, Final Patchouli, Advent Yuyuko (I may have been better off bringing EX Utsuho instead), EX Wriggle and Final Remilia. Had those since the start, Viridian forest, Cerulean, Lavender, Viridian forest and Cerulean respectively. Part of what made me rethink bringing legendaries, thought I'd use the old favourites

Anyway, that was tons of fun, so thanks for introducing me to the hack, Mirrinus. And now that it's finished, I'm free at last. Freeeeeeeeee.

Good luck with the rest of the run, and thanks for the thread so far

Let's Play Touhoumon - Chapter 7-1

Ah, I feel so refreshed and carefree! With that whole Team Rocket fiasco behind me, now would be a good time to finally enjoy this vacation and make it feel like, well, like a vacation. And what better place to do it than at the beach?

http://i47.tinypic.com/193t3t.jpg

Unfortunately, I didn't bring a swimsuit with me when I left for this trip. Hey, I expected to be in Gensokyo, and we all know that there are no beaches in Gensokyo! So now I feel rather disappointed in not preparing for this unforeseen circumstance. I mean, it would be such a pain to get this dress wet! Do you think I wear stuff like this to the beach on purpose?

Luckily, I had another idea in mind.

http://i49.tinypic.com/2qlv0he.jpg

By inverting Poppins' large umbrella, we could form a makeshift raft of some sort to navigate the seas. I sure hope she won't mind...

http://i48.tinypic.com/2417e6p.jpg

Ah, now this is the life. Lounging on a floating umbrella in the middle of the ocean, basking in the warm glow of the sun, not a care in the world...or at least, it would be relaxing, if it weren't for all the pesky trainers seeking to interrupt my time. How irritating. Next thing you know, there'll be people challenging me to a battle while I'm going to the bathroom.

http://i45.tinypic.com/2nte4p4.jpg

The high seas were teaming with swimmers frolicking in the water. Wouldn't it be dangerous to have people swimming so far from shore, without a lifeguard nearby? Oh, look. Once again I'm expecting to see some form of supervision in a world that clearly lacks any notion of reasonable authority figures. All right, scratch what I just said.

Okay, young people. Enjoy swimming in your deathtrap of an ocean. Try not to drown or get cut by the many sharp objects floating around. (Where do you think the chibi Komachis get their scythes?)

http://i48.tinypic.com/2lo3axs.jpg

Of course I can swim. I just choose not to swim in your ocean of treachery. That and if you splash my dress, you're footing the dry cleaning bill.

http://i49.tinypic.com/redv.jpg

So, this is the infamous Seafoam Island? Given all the talk surrounding it, I had expected some sort of luxurious seaside resort. How lame.

http://i46.tinypic.com/2wnnz37.jpg

Instead, I get a damp, musky cave with a rushing river flowing through its lower portions. Take one misstep, and you can drop into the raging rapids in an instant. Luckily, I managed to release Poppins and her umbrella as I fell, saving my dress just in the nick of time. It was really quite epic, and the low-quality sprite images you're seeing just can't do it justice.

This is so not a choice vacation spot. The travel brochures lied to me!

http://i45.tinypic.com/2q3cjkm.jpg

After having been swept into an unfamiliar chamber in the cave, I was able to bust my way back thanks to the strength of China-Li, who blocked off the flowing waters with large stones. As I floated in the now calm waters, I chanced upon something ancient. Something majestic. I chose to leave it be.

Well, Seafoam Island was a flop. Isn't there anywhere else I could go? Why yes, yes there is. I could head south from where this journey all started: Pallet Town. I hear there are more islands to visit over there.

Riding around on an umbrella is cumbersome though, to say the least. I figured if I'm going beachhopping again, I'm going to need something else.

http://i49.tinypic.com/2zsslyw.jpg

As for how I'm surfing with Shinku? Uh...magic. Yes, magic. Let's just go with that explanation and never speak of this topic again.

http://i46.tinypic.com/14tab9t.jpg

Apparently, this particular sea route was more of a fishing hotspot than anything else. I ran into many fishermen who sought to pass the time by battling with me, which confuses me greatly. Fishing is such an interesting hobby that...you have to resort to Touhoumon battles and other means to stave off boredom while fishing? Why not just pick up a more exciting hobby, like paint drying or grass growing?

http://i45.tinypic.com/259cy9h.jpg

Aw...how cute. Telling your sister that she needs to lose weight. Most little brothers I know who did that usually end up with a concussion instead. Bravo to you, you brave soul!

(Land of the impossible, etc.)

http://i48.tinypic.com/11j0rch.jpg

See? More bored fishermen. I just can't fathom why they would spend their time doing something so boring. Maybe it's sort of an addiction, like those gambling maniacs I met a while back? Hmm...must remember to make note of this. Could be an interesting idea for my next psychology thesis paper.

http://i46.tinypic.com/308hzxz.jpg

I kept on surfing, passing by Cinnabar island, and continued east a while longer. This stretch of seaways held a more diverse group of residents, rather than just the typical swimmers and fishermen. Why, there was even a bird keeper! How random! Maybe they're also on vacation? I guess even bird keepers need a break now and then from their job of...hey...wait a minute, what kind of job is bird keeper anyway?

http://i47.tinypic.com/23uwvv4.jpg

...

Yes. Yes, I am on vacation. Thank you for reminding me just how boring my vacation has become. I mean, what kind of vacation is it when I spend half my time relieving fishermen of their boredom? Wait, don't answer that.

And Seafoam Island again? Okay, this is now officially a complete waste of time. Let's just get back to Cinnabar and resume beating people up for badges.

But first, a souvenir. No vacation, no matter how bad, is complete without one.

Nice job keeping your sanity throughout Seafoam, by the way. While not as annoying as Lugia's island, I really hate that place. Cerulean Cave, too, if it wasn't a good place to catch some awesome additions to the team that I never used. But really, Seafoam. Gah. It's no Rock Tunnel, but still.

For some reason, Victory Road confused me enough when I was younger (about 6~7) that it took me several hours to figure out how to make it through, and that was basically an accident. This is also when I made some wise decisions to the effect of "railroad me, will you? Bah! Who needs Flash, anyway? I'll clear the Rock Tunnel without it!" Success ensued, after way too long, but it cost me what little mental health I may have had.

To be honest, I'm actually debating right now whether to do the Sevii Islands endgame or just complete this LP at the Elite Four round 1. The story I had planned for this LP ends at Indigo Plateau, and I haven't really come up with many good ideas for continuing beyond to the Sevii Islands. That and there's the fact that I've already started making plans with my next LP (I've narrowed it down to 3 games so far).

The big draw to going beyond is to do the Elite Four round 2, where they have pretty ridiculous teams in this hack. It'll take a lot of grinding to take them on, though (we're talking level 80+).

Let's Play Touhoumon - Chapter 7-2

It's amazing just how fast these girls grow when under my tutelage. No one gets left behind under my watch!

http://i48.tinypic.com/143i91f.jpg

So, ahem, back to business: just two more badges to go! Unfortunately, it's never as simple as just waltzing into a gym and demanding a battle, now is it? This time around, I don't even have the option, because for some reason the gym leader forgot to unlock his front door today. Why is he doing this? I don't know. It's never explained.

http://i46.tinypic.com/2e3zs09.jpg

In fact, I'm not even sure if anyone ever so much as hints that I have to find the key myself in order to unlock the door. Is this some kind of challenge? Or does the gym leader just really hate girl scouts who try to sell him cookies? Hmm...maybe if I pretended to be a pizza delivery person, I could trick him into opening the door?

"Uh, excuse me? I've got three extra large pizzas with pepperoni and sausage toppings. Could you open the door?"

"Huh? Pizza? Awesome! Hey guys, Blaine must have ordered us some pizza! All right, just a minute, let me open the- ohsnapI'monfire!"

Hmm. The door appears to have been booby-trapped as well. So much for breaking in and entering.

So I guess I'm stuck looking for the key to the gym. And just where is this mystical key of mystery? I don't know. All the people standing by the gym won't tell me a thing about it. Apparently, I had to go all the way back to the Eirin Center before I can even find a single clue about where it's located. Of course, I didn't bother to do that. I'm genre savvy enough to know that it's probably the only other notable building here on this island: the big mansion with a familiar-sounding name.

http://i47.tinypic.com/256wj7b.jpg

Scarlet Devil Mansion? Where have I heard that name before?

Anyway, as you would expect from this world, I found little kids playing around in the dark, decrepit mansion filled with collapsing walls and creepy statues with glowing eyes that sealed off rooms and corridors. Because nothing says fun like mortal danger, am I right?

http://i50.tinypic.com/rssivo.jpg

Yup, it's absolutely the best place in the world to go have some fun. Look, there's even a Flandre stalking the halls! How charming! You know, if everyone has to go through this ordeal just to get Blaine to open up his front door, I'd love to see how many girl scouts made it out of this alive.

But what could be more ominous than wild psychotic girls patrolling the floors? Why, what about the apocalyptic logs scattered throughout the rooms? Those are always fun to discover, aren't they?

http://i48.tinypic.com/xqc291.jpg

Actually...it's not quite accurate to call them apocalyptic logs. They seem to be detailing something else entirely. Something about the creation of this world, the barriers that sustain it, and other meta-physical research that I can't really understand. Weird. I hope this isn't going to come back and bite me in some sort of heavy-handed plot device kind of way.

http://i45.tinypic.com/epk6q0.jpg

Plunging myself deeper into the maze-like mansion, I was stopped by some scientists who still made use of the facilities here. They gave me some vague hints as to the nature of their research concerning the creation of this world, which once again just flew over my head. I don't think even they know what they're talking about. I just hope they won't say something absurd, like how this world was created by a single Touhoumon that I would one day be able to capture and carry around with me in a convenient little orb. I mean, how ridiculous would that be?

http://i49.tinypic.com/35hoil3.jpg

Huh, who's this Composer they have mentioned here? You know, I really hate how these tattered logs give so little information that I can hardly glean a thing from them. It's almost as if someone deliberately tore them to pieces and left just enough for me to find that I'd become curious, but not enough as to actually answer any of my questions. It's as if some sadistic force is in control of the entire situation, and revels in the fact that I am still unaware of some vital piece of information that would change my outlook on this entire world if it were revealed to me.

Or maybe I'm just unduly paranoid. I get that sometimes. Psychology major and all, right?

Oh well, who cares. It's hard to feel sorry for yourself when you're walking side-by-side with pint-sized creatures capable of befriending anyone with superior firepower. This must be how Nanoha Takamachi feels every single day.

Maybe I'm just getting drunk off the power rush of commanding a squad of cute little death machines, but I'm feeling like I can take whatever this world plans on throwing at me. Bring it on, you nonsensical world of failure law enforcement and no adult supervision of children! I'm ready for you!

Just as soon as I find that stupid key...

Oh, there it is, just lying on the floor of the mansion's basement. How convenient. Well, that was easier than I thought. For a minute there I was afraid I had to-

Wait, what was that? It sounded like someone was whispering just now.

"...and then there were none?"

You know, what I don't like about this part of the game is this: if you're going to make an SDM-themed dungeon and even have the entire stage 3+ cast of EoSD catchable here, why is the music for the place "Satori Maiden - 3rd Eye"? Granted, I love that song, and both "U.N. Owen was Her" and "Septette for the Dead Princess" were taken for other tracks in the game, but why couldn't they at least have gone with "Voile Magic Library" or "Locked Girl" or something? Oh well...

I think I might do a music montage of this game near the end of the LP, to showcase most of the remixed songs.

Voting for who to use against Blaine will now commence. Who will withstand his mighty bald head of awesomeness?

In other news, I've been considering another Let's Play following the conclusion of this one (which hopefully won't be that far off), and I've narrowed it down to 3 choices. I still haven't decided which of the three games to play, though, and may end up opening it up to a vote soon. I regret to say that none of the three are related to Touhou Project in any way, and neither do they have anything to do with Pokemon as well. But they do all have something in common: They are each part of a popular and well-known video game series, but each of the three games I have picked out sadly never saw an official release outside of Japan. I'll be working off of fan translation patches (of varying completeness) and my own ability to make up stuff in place of what I can't read. I'm still working out the logistics on how I would LP some of them, but I hope to get this started soon.

Oh yeah, and I did say a few months ago that I would do the Plus Disk content for Labyrinth of Touhou, didn't I? Well...I still might. A new updated version of Labyrinth of Touhou was just released this past weekend. Very little new content was added, but several adjustments and fixes were made that would hopefully make the endgame more tolerable. I still might pick that up eventually and continue from where I left off at the story's conclusion.

I think i'll refrain from voting since i cannot watch youtube videos here, i can't see the result and it would be unfair to keep influencing who is used in a battle that only others get to enjoy. I do agree that it is weird to have an SDM dungeon and then use music from SA for it. Hopefully the next version of the mod will fix that oversight.

And it sounds interesting with those three games. And i will not-quite entirely arbitrarily guess that they are Shin Megami Tensei, Shin Megami Tensei II and Megami Ibunroki: Persona 2: Innocent Sin and that is my belief until you prove otherwise. And any of those three would be awesome.

Hmm...should have clarified that the three games are each from a different series. And sorry, it's not Megami Tensei.

One is an action RPG, one is a strategy RPG, and the last is...um...a mix of the two?

Terraoblivion

A large part of the guess came based on the fact that it was the only series big enough to be both well-known and popular and have three full untranslated games. So i probably wouldn't have begun guessing at it if i had known it was from three different series. This does make it harder though. Action RPG could be the Seiken Densetsu that is famous but never got translated, i can't remember the number though. Strategy RPG could be a lot of different things, though one of the early Fire Emblem games sound likely. No clue about the last one, though. Can't think of any hybrids between those two genres.

For the battle against Blaine, you should take Magic Mary, Poppins, China-li, Believe it, Shinku, and Mukyue. Several of them know rock, water, or ground type attacks, so the fire types in the gym will not be much of a problem. China should also have some resistance to the attacks due to being a dragon type.

No real input on the gym. Just realized that a water/psychic is basically a quick way to make Bruno cry.

Where do you think TF2 gets its hats from? They're exporting their hats.

By the time they reach their final evolution they are powerful and confident enough that they aren't afraid to break social mores, so they live out their nudist fantasies!

I though those fantasies were those of Ran, or so the Tenko meme says.

What? She's not a nudist normally, she keeps her cap on! Unlike that pervert Kaguya. Just look at her, indecently prancing around with nothing to decorate her head, not even a pair of animal ears making such decorations impractical. Yet, when they reach their final evolution so many of these girls rebel against social mores by dropping their headgear and prancing around like a group of nudists!

That's because in the original Japanese version (which inspired all hacks in English, I believe), the Pokémon Mansion was supposed to be a homage to the Palace of the Earth Spirits, with the music and the fact that Rin and Satori were only found there. Seeing the SDM mentioned on the title of the most recent chapter surprise me and left me a bit clueless until I remembered where's the mansion in the game.

By the way, what sets BAlice apart from EAlice?

You know, I actually played the original Japanese hack when it first came out, and I still forgot about that. Thanks for reminding me.

By the way, what sets BAlice apart from EAlice?

Different stat distribution (trades some attack and a lot of defense for more speed and special), different typing (Ice/Water), and different learned movepool.

Ah, not water/psychic? Pity. Here I was hoping for a Starmie-esque team member that would hate Bruno and everything he stands for.

Also, does anything top EX-Utsuho in terms of special attack? It was a bit like that even pre-evolution, but by the EX stage, the sheer amount of special attack is absolutely horrifying.

Nope, don't think so. With 160 base special attack, she just barely tops EX Patchouli, Last Word Yuyuko, Last Word Marisa, and Super Flandre.

Let's Play Touhoumon - Chapter 7-3

I had thought I'd seen enough of annoying gym puzzles. Invisible barriers, teleportation pads, that awful trash can puzzle, and the like. However, at least those were all doable. But today, I came across a challenge that I simply cannot overcome.

Trivia quizzes.

No, it's not that I'm stupid or anything. After all, I'm maintaining a pretty decent GPA in my college curriculum. Rather, this quiz is asking me things that I simply learned about. If you ask me, that's downright unfair. Observe.

http://i48.tinypic.com/302c5jm.jpg

Oh come on, how was I suppose to know that?! I mean, she lives in a lovely shrine, and is friends with a wealthy aristocratic vampire, a mage that can make it literally rain gold, and a shinigami who throws money around like confetti! And I should have assumed that she was poor? I'm not sure if they ever even talked about that in Labyrinth of Touhou!

http://i48.tinypic.com/2d1l1s1.jpg

At least I can make up for my deficiencies with good old-fashioned bullying of nerds! Actually, come to think of it, that doesn't sound very appealing. It's like Academic Decathlon all over again...

Anyway, moving on now...

http://i45.tinypic.com/oat8c8.jpg

Well, come to think of it, how am even I suppose to know this one? It's not like I get to routinely chat with Marisa, you know. And are the PC-98 games even considered the same continuity as the Windows games? I don't know; actually, I don't know how I'm even expected to know the difference between the two.

http://i48.tinypic.com/125no5c.jpg

See? Totally unfair. Not all of us get to spend our lives studying Touhou Project, despite how awesome that sounds. Some of us have to make do with analytical psychology.

http://i50.tinypic.com/28mpahh.jpg

Oh, how am I suppose to know this? I haven't even appeared in any of the Touhou games! From my point of view, I'm not even suppose to know the difference between danmaku and fighting games! As if the numbering system weren't screwed up enough!

(Just watch, this question will be so incorrect in a little over a year's time.)

http://i47.tinypic.com/bim9w6.jpg

Incidentally, I'm not the only one who overlooked Marisa's penchant for stealing things.

http://i48.tinypic.com/25ow9k4.jpg

Okay, this one I'd better have gotten right. I mean, it's not like I just spent the entire previous dungeon listening to this theme or anything. And it's not like it's this LPer's favorite Touhou song or anything. And it's not like I just broke the fourth wall or anything.

Although...that felt a bit unfulfilling. I just can't justify stepping out of this room without first beating up the trainer standing here. Oh no...I'm finally beginning to understand why trainers challenge everyone in sight! I've become the very thing I despise! I have been infected with the hate plague!

http://i49.tinypic.com/bx941.jpg

Yeah...who's ZUN again? That guy I met just north of Cerulean City? Hmm, I didn't realize he was so important. Just what's so special about him?

And no, I am NOT getting these wrong on purpose. I guess I'm just dumb like that.

Or am I? Could it be that I'm just using these quizzes as an excuse to challenge trainers without making myself the aggressor, and thus circumventing the effects of the hate plague? I don't know, I just enjoy messing with you all. It's true, psychology majors enjoy trolling humanity like that. One day, I hope to join the majestic ranks of Frederica Bernkastel, Izaya Orihara, and Kyoto Animation.

Okay, enough screwing around. Let's just end this with the direct approach.

http://i45.tinypic.com/1zptoq8.jpg

Hey, Blaine! I've got a riddle for you! Why don't need the Secret Key yourself?

Because you've lost your locks! Hahahaha! Get it?

Er...or we could just cut to the fight sequence. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqMZ03s8XJw)

So Maribel wants to join the ranks of Trollkastle... She better watch out for Battler and Beatroll.

Now all that is left for gyms is Giovanni. Considering the number of ground types, a team similar to the one used against Blaine might suffice , but then again there might something I am not aware of, like fan characters or variations of regular characters.

On a side note, how many swimsuit touhou are there? I saw Okuu in a school swimsuit, and then there's Alice in a bikini.

Six. They're all part water-type, with each a different secondary type. They all have stats that lean towards special sweeping.
