Ok, so this started with me trying to create a pyromancer prestige class. It ended up turning into a pyromancer base class, and then I decided to turn it into this- a class that branches into pyromancy, cryomancy, et cetera. So here it is.

Class features:
Elemental Path
Choose a path- Pyromancy, Cryomancy, Electromancy, Sonomancy, or Acetomancy. This governs a number of things:

*Casting stat. Cryo- and Aceto- are intelligence, Sono- is wisdom, Electro- and Pyro- are charisma.

*Spells. An Elemage's spell list is made up of all spells with the descriptor relevant to the elemage's path and/or deal the relevant damage.
(Cantrips are exempt from this rule.) Also, see the spell lists.

Pyro: Fire
Cryo: Water/cold
Electro: Electric/air (necessary; the electromancer's spell list is small w/o air)
Aceto: Acid
Sono: Sonic
In addition, when you cast spells that deal damage of the relevant type, you gain the following bonuses.
Pyro: +2 damage per die.
Cryo: +1 damage per die, save is fortitude OR reflex (whichever is more likely to succeed).
Electro: +2 DC, +2 to overcome SR.
Sono: Pushes all targets 5ft from the origin square of the spell (no save). Also, ignores objects' hardness. A creature knocked into a solid, stable object takes 1d4 damage and falls prone.
Aceto: Deals secondary damage equal to 1/8 the original damage on the next turn.

*Alignment. None of them have an alignment requirement, but Int-based paths and Wis-based paths tend towards neutrality OR law, and Cha-based ones tend towards chaos.
Level 2:
Level 3:Path Spellshift: You gain the feats Energy Substitution and Subdual Substitution for the damage appropriate to your path. This allows you to learn and use spells that Energy Substitution could apply to, but you may only cast it with this feat applied.
Level 4:
Level 5:Improved Path: The effects of the bonuses of your path double. Sono- pushes 10ft, deals +1 per die.
Level 6:
Level 7:
Level 8:
Level 9:
Level 10:Path Intertwine: You may cast 1 extra spell per day of each level that you can cast. These spells, and ONLY these spells, may be of any path that has the same casting stat. Sonomancer's extra spells can be force spells instead because it is the only one based off of Wisdom.
Level 11:
Level 12:Greater Path: You cast all spells from your main path at +1 caster level. (Is this too weak?)
Level 13:
Level 14:
Level 15:
Level 16:
Level 17:
Level 18:
Level 19:
Level 20: Capstone. Haven't got one yet.

This is my first homebrew class, so please PEACH. Also, could I have some suggestions about how to fill the dead levels?

Edit: Sonomancer redone. Did I manage to fix it? If not, how?
Edit: Spells fixed, spell lists added. Surprisingly, the Sonomancer has plenty of spells, but the Acetomancer is sorely lacking.

...I know. I'm still putting it up. Waitaminnit.

Edit: I know, ok?!?! This is my first homebrew, I'm still figuring out how to get the table to work! I copied this table from another thread, now I'm turning it into the class!
Ya know what? Screw the table.

*Edit snip*

The fighter? You should probably post the class you gave a preview of.

As well, you probably should have posted the class before posting at all.

EDIT: Oh. That's all? :smalltongue:

{table=head]Level|Base Attack Bonus|Fort Save|Ref Save|Will Save|Special
1|+0|+0|+0|+2|...[/table]

Just fill that table with whatever else you need. You might also need another table for spells per day or spells known (spells per day can be fit if you don't have class features with long names).

Don't worry about it. Use (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10313&highlight=Guide+Homebrewing), use (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=137641), and use (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=8386564&posted=1#post8386564).

The first one contains all the formatting necessary, along with the codes for each class type.

The second is a less refined version of the third--that is, a homebrew theory thread.

Your homebrewing skills astounding me. It both so much and so little at the same time. You are the pioneer of Modern Homebrew Art!

On a more serious note, This Site (http://pifro.com/dnd/NEW/) is an excellent way to make a table w/o all the stupid copy-pasting.

I believe there was a Wizards article available free online that gave alternate versions of the Pyrokineticist. My school blocks the Wizards site, but I know it gave names for all five 'elements'.

Aceto? Makes sense.

Yeah, this class started as a non-psion pyrokineticist that actually cast spells, but then I realized that to get the kind of spellcasting I wanted I needed a base class.

It would be nice to have an actual spell list.

The Sonomancer's path ability is actually a hindrance; normally spells ignore DR but if their sonic damage now counts as bludgeoning it is affected by DR. It should let them bypass resistance and immunity to sonic, but that's vanishingly rare.

There's not a lot here, I don't see why this class needs to exist when there are already warmages and wizards and such.

Do the Prismatic spells count as fire, cold, and acid because they sometimes deal those kinds of damage? What about Rainbow Beam from Spell Compendium?

I would be concerned about the small amount of spells that a Sonomancer gets; the Holy Word line is nice and Wail of the Banshee is very showy, but the distinct lack of first level spells in core and the spell list being only 11 spells in core, 4 of which are nearly the same thing, is worrisome.

I don't know all the spells that they could possibly have. I would if I could, but I can't.

Spells bypass DR? I didn't know that. All DR?
Anyway, I had some trouble coming up with the Sonomancer's abilities. Should I just cut them from the class and have done with it?
There's not a lot here, I don't see why this class needs to exist when there are already warmages and wizards and such.
Well, I was trying to make something that works a little like an evoker, only more specialized. I really made this for a campaign WITHOUT wizards- I wanted a focused version of a sorcerer. It won't be as strong as a wizard, but wizards are gamebreakingly powerful- I'm going for tier 2-3, but I'm not very good at homebrewing yet. As for not a lot here, that's why I put it on the forum- for help filling out the class and stuff.

I know, that's what Spellshift is for. Still, again, maybe Sonomancer should be cut...

Also, I know the class kinda sucks right now. I'm still hashing class features. The meat of the class is out. Now comes the potatoes.

Boo! (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20040625e)

Acid: Aceto
This makes acetic acid (vinegar) a lot funnier... Yay for acid-acid!

Anyway, point of interest - I made a class by the same name a bit ago. It's sort of incomplete and totally different, but figured I'd mention it. Hardly a name I can claim as my own, though, so don't worry about it.

Urgh... bump.

That's frowned upon. If people don't want to post, you can't make them.

If I were you, I'd work on filling out the spell list, starting with the core spells.

I don't know what you want us to say. You wanted an honest critique then ok: the class is only half done, you still haven't fixed it suddenly forgetting all it's 9th level spells at level 20, it's a primary spellcaster that doesn't have a spell list. You aren't supposed to build the foundation for a class and then tell people who might use it "sorry, you have to go find your own spells".

As it stands it's unusable and until you finish it can't be judged properly because at the moment it doesn't do anything.

Also, I'm guessing he's spontaneous, and casts like a Beguiler or Dread Necromancer (picks spells when needed, automatically knows all spells on his list)

For the capstone, how about a transformation-style one? You know, have the Elemental type with whatever subtype is appropiate. So, for example, a Pyromancer would become an Elemental (fire). However, not too sure what Sonic would get...

No, he casts spontaneously like a sorcerer, but can change his spells known every morning.

Yeah, I thought about that, but like you said. Also, how do I reconcile it with intertwined path?

Also, an apology to everyone: This is a work in progress. I'm sorry that I didn't make that clear, but I'm new at this. As for the spell list, I'm sorry, but to make one for this class would require the equivalent of 5 spell lists. I just don't have that kind of time or commitment. I gave moderately specific guidelines to the spell lists.
As it is, I know it's unusable. That's why I put it on the forums in the first place- for some help to build it into a working class.

@V: YES. PLEASE. This thing needs as much input as it can get.

-I suppose the Air subype could work

-Hehe, that's true. I started to write one up for you just with PHB spells, but ran out of steam at about E/F.

-No worries. If you need help, just let me know.

The spell filter (http://www.penpaperpixel.org/tools/d20spellfilter/) is a good start. Then you can page through the entire Spell Compendium, because I don't think it has an index broken down by elemental types of spell. That should be enough spells.

Oh yeah, spell filers. I prefer this one (http://imarvintpa.com/dndLive/FindSpell.php) though, as it does non-core stuff too.

I didn't know there was such a thing as spell filters!
I'll put in spell lists now, but they're in no way comprehensive.
