You are standing in a grand hallway just outside of Marde. An armorclad impressive person is standing in front of you smiling while he scans the crowd. On his back is a greatsword and his armor is outfitted with armorspikes. On his right arm a crossbow is mounted. (knowledge local if you have it please)

Hereby I call you all worthy of the test to become initiates of the Enforcers. You will get a mission which you will need to fulfill. My name is Grendar and I will be your liaison from here on. That means that I need to okay the missions you want to go on, and I need to permit special things like going into town to booze yourself up. We do not permit any member to be drunk inside the building, nor do we look kindly on those that drink a lot. Gambling is something we try to shun, but we know there are members that play those games. Try to let those games be friendly and the prices low. While working here you will get a room, one per team, with six beds in it, you will get food, two square meals a day and you are entitled to rations if you will go into the field. Luckily your test is not in the field and you will stay for this in the relatively safe area. As soon as I have all of your agreements I will give you your mission. Do you all understand?

@ Koury

You remember something you heard about Grendar. He was one of the first Enforcers. He did some great things like destroying the phylactery of a lich and taking in a group of 25 bandits all alone in his first three years. He should be now around 60 years old and works as some kind of mentor for new recruits.

A small Kobold approaches...

"I understand, sir," he says. "I have no need of alcohol, and distain gambling with dice and cards. The only potential problem is that some of a team may mistake me for a common Kobold. And I must forwarn you that eventually I will want to take some time off for... personal enterprises..."

The Kobold is wearing a Monk's outfit and carries a light backpack.

Nep does not have Knowledge (Local). Relating to the "personal enterprises," Nep means mining. Profession (Mining).

"I understand."

Strange, we never had a kobold before. But you are marked as a potential initiate so you must have the skills to back it up. What monastery are you from if I may ask. Grendar looksat Nep.
And what the personal enterprises are, you get every month as an initiate a half day off. Further are there in between misions also times where there are not that many jobs. Does this answer your question a little.

Eternal Drifter

"A fogotten monestary in a forgotten cave," the Kobold replies. "It was ruined by a few adventurers a year back. They killed almost everyone there. Only myself and a beginer goblin made it out alive."

"The enterprises are mining," The Kobold says. "I'll need some paper and writing materials to mark ideal locations on my travels. Also, my inherit skill at trapmaking will capture some people without us running into them first."

You all hear a small knock on the door. After a second or ten waiting Grendar pushes the door open and walks in. He has five scrolls in his hand and looks at all of you.

Well I see you are all settled here. Because you all agreed to work for the Enforcers you only need to sign these scrolls. The scrolls are there for getting your consent, making a bankingaccount for every one of you where the rewards of your work will be sended to and last but not least for acces to the armory. Without having signed this you won't get acces to the armory, which means you need to buy from merchants whose prices are mostly a lot steeper that here. After everything is signed (I think that after so much searching you will sign the contract) Grendar takes the scrolls back, puts them in a bag and nods.
Luckily some of you read the contract before signing. You never know what some organizations make you do. On the other hand, we try to be fear towards you and we hope you will be fair towards us. Your first mission is finding a rogue. She stole from a jewelsmith. We don't know at the moment where she is, but we need someone little less known than the average employee here. There's where you come in sight. She is a small fish with the name Veronica. You can best start your search at the Salty Fish. The inn where they say she comes sometimes.

Eternal Drifter
2010-05-15, 11:14 AM
After reading through the contract a few times, the Kobold signs his name...
"I'm glad you understand my paranoia," Nep says. "I think that the founder of my old monestary signed a contract with a devil many years back... of all the bodies left at the monestary, his was one I never found..."

"So... a target: A female rouge... human I assume? And a prime location: the Salty Fish... I think I can rule traps out of the question... And you want her alive, I assume? And I assume you'll give me a map to the location."

Duskranger
2010-05-15, 12:02 PM
The problem is that most of the information we have doesn't tells us much. We know she's a rogue, a thief. Further her name. But anything else. It's a mystery. And for a map. Just ask for the Salty Fish to people and they will point you in the right direction. And Mister Kobold, take it easy, the only demons here are those in your mind.

Koury
2010-05-15, 02:12 PM
Well now, how do we want to go about this? We can't all go out and look for this rogue together, that'll draw attention. Is anyone among us more skilled at gathering information then myself? Perhaps we can all go out, learn what we can, then meet up at the Salty Fish inn?

"That may be best..." Nep muses. "Making traps will not be useful. She knows all about them, and would likely disable any quick traps I make. Also, the target location is a public place, so even if she wasn't skilled with traps, we could accidentally get someone we aren't getting paid for."

Critical
2010-05-15, 06:20 PM

Well i cant gather info but maybe we can draw her out by me encroaching on her territory??

Eternal Drifter
2010-05-15, 10:34 PM
"Drawing her out might work..." Nep muses. "Perhaps we can use my skills as a trapmaker after all... First, our most agreeable face goes to her in the Salty Fish with a job offer to slay Kobolds in a nearby area. This will be partly true: there will be A Kobold in the area, me, along with the rest of the party. I set up some traps, she falls for one of them, and then we strike! This may work!"

"Assuming that no other plans come up," Nep says, "We will need to work out the details of the plan. I'm personally for trap holes in the wilderness, near to the Salty Fish. Corretha, right? You may be best served as our 'face' to our target, as in promicing gold to deal with this Kobold problem. While trying to find her, you, and the rest of the group, should be trying to gather more information about the target, but not too often or too quickly, or we'd raise suspisions. Any whom are not good with talking, or might blow the cover, or is good with their hands, are to meanwhile set up the location of the traps. I will be directing the trapbuilding, since I'm trained in traps and in particular trap holes. Then, once the target takes the bait of gold and goes to the desired area, where we all hide. Then we wait until she falls into one of the trap holes or disables over half of them, and THEN we strike, aiming to knock her out... I assume one of us has rope? Because I'm not sure how else otherwise we would get her back to here..."

"Again, all this is assuming there are no other ideas..." Nep finishes.

Critical
2010-05-16, 03:41 PM
"No." - Morph says, after listening to Nep. - "Besides, do you think she'd be up for killing a lot of kobolds on her own? I don't think so. I say - we find, at least, some rogues. And get info from them. They usually know each other, you know. Or, they might know someone who does."

Eternal Drifter
2010-05-16, 05:24 PM
"We just need to spin the story the right way," Nep says. "Speaking to other rouges would get us more information about her... I'd say we go with my plan... for now... and then if we find some piece of information that changes things, then we make a different plan."

"Okay with everyone?" Nep asks.

Koury
2010-05-16, 11:27 PM
If we can get face to face with her, we should have already won. I'm not keen on finding her only to have her get away. I say if we find her, in whatever way, we move quickly to apprehend. A Color Spray or Wall of Smoke to the face should suffice.

As for me being our face... I'm not sure thats such a good idea, really.

Critical
2010-05-17, 08:12 AM
"Your plan fails, trap-man. You have to think like a rogue. What does a rogue want? Money. Quick, easy money. So, what do we do? That's right, we get a huge wallet, fill it with something money-like and profit. Perhaps, the armory has something similar that we could use?"

Eternal Drifter
2010-05-17, 09:03 PM
"...I'm out of ideas," the kobold admits. "The most reasonable thing to do would be to try to bait her with some gold... but I can't do it. Most villages these days run out Kobolds without a second thought. If the plan involves action at the Salty Fish, I'm afraid I won't be much help; I'll get kicked out of there as soon as I'm spotted, and I would blow your cover. I'm too small for a 'civilized' Halfling disguise."

"But if the target makes a run for it, and passes by me while waiting, THEN I'll do what I can to help out... just don't expect me to stick around waiting for the guard to find me and the knocked out body."

Grendar scrapes his throat:
Whatever you do, you have from now till tomorrow to finish this job. If not ended by tomorrownight at precisely when the night strikes 12 you will fail the mission. Failing means most of the time paying a fine. In your case maybe doing even smaller jobs. And off course a negative mark on the board, because after this mission you will be boardmarked. Is that all you want. Catch. Roderick says while throwing you a purse.
There are around 40 copper pieces in it. With magic made so that they look gold, as long as you don't test them, or look at them too carefully. What you're disguise considers. I can only make you look like a halfling for only two hours or less if you speak the command word. If you want that that is.

"Thank you for the bait," Nep says, bowing. "So... two hours? You know, I think it may be all right to go out right now, now that I can see the setting sun out the window. I may need your disguise tomorrow, though, when the sun comes up. If you're still around here, that is."

"If all goes well, I shall try to return the 'gold' to you later."

Nep is sticking around for a little longer, awaiting for what else Roderick has to say, if anything. If not, he'll head out under the cover of the setting sun.

You're welcome. I always like to see you starters struggle, but with this kind of little stuff I can help you. And yes for only two hours you will look exactly like a halfling. The codeword by the way is spitswindler. That way you know that no one will say the word and makes your bed look like an halfling for 2 hours long. Once putted out the item will fall apart, so it's really only one use. And you can pay me by if you ever come high enough to not knock me from first place okay Roderick adds joking.

(So... I'm assuming that Nep has a small item that changes his appearance for two hours once activated? Correct me if I'm wrong.)

"Many thanks," Nep says. "Now, I've got limited moonlight, so I must get going. Later, sir."

Assuming that he isn't stopped, Nep will leave and head into the city, hiding and moving silently.

In the alley lays a small female halfling. She looks hurt, on her head is a small wound and the persons you saw coming out of the inn are just leaving the alley on the other side (long alley of about 300')

Nep dives behind a stack of apples in a market, dodging the sight of a passing city guard.

Advantages to being small... Nep thinks. But Kobolds are not accepted as 'civilized' folk. I need to have that changed... but how?

Nep peeks out from behind the apples, and then, seeing that the coast is clear, rushes off towards the direction of the Salty Fish.

Gaining fame as a hero would start the revolution... but are the rest of the race ready to- Not another!

Nep dives behind a box of... things... and then sneakily slides next to a box of potions.

If this is the halfling we are after then we should bring her in. The muggers aren't our objective. You got any rope?

"So ye be an ex-associate of her too." A dirty man beside you says, his breath smells like stale beer and things you do not even want to imagine.
"I can tell you, where she's going to be, out of spite, so you can kick her ass, she also stole from us, yes she did. She took all our shares with her. We should've gotten more than she gave us.
