Hi guys!
I just have to share this with you. A few minutes ago, I had an argument with a guy who flamed about a friend of mine. I asked him to stop it, but needless to say, he started picking on me. Well, the argument went on and though I don't want to brag, it didn't went well for him. Finally, he actually compared my friend to a Nazi. It rofled a while...

So, did you ever witness or participate in a discussion that was ended by Godwin's Law?

Nope, I'm not on UVA's Usenet.

There have been a couple on these forums, though I haven't seen one here in a couple of months, at least.

Now, given that Godwin's Law typically states that once Hitler or the Nazi's are mentioned in a thread, that thread is then over and should be closed, how does this interact with a thread ABOUT Godwin's Law? It seems a bit... confusing, honestly.

It's null and void then. Only if Nazis aren't the topic of the thread is Godwin's Law in effect.

Ah, I see. So, Godwin's Law excludes itself. This is good knowledge to have.

Yeah... It was a discussion about which topic is better at ending conversations, Hitler or male lactation. I brought up lactating Hitler, which was the obvious conclusion, and that ended that topic instantly.

I have a feeling we're going to experience it in this thread.

Yes. I have. On Roleplayer Guild. But, when you take another look at what the thread name was, it seems kind of obvious that Godwin's Law was inevitable.

I don't want to talk about it.

Was it something hillaribad like "Robo-Zombie-Nazis versus Bionic-Dinosaurs-With-Rockets-For-Arms?"

I believe it may violate forum rules to say, so I'll keep quiet about it. But yes, it was fairly hillaribad.

DUDE BEST THREAD POSSIBLE. If it so totally wasn't anti-forum rules, I'd go make it.

I can't decide whether to add that to my quote collection, or not touch that. :smallsigh:

Nope, I'm not on UVA's Usenet.+100 points for disliking Charlottesville almost as much as I do. Furthermore: Every Medic joke in TF2 that does not involve his relationship with the Heavy.

Yeah, sigh...

I actually try to avoid this in real life as well as online. Maybe it's just a forum reflex, but whenever I find a comparison to Hitler creeping into my brain (even an apt one), I think "no, no, don't Godwin yourself, come on."

Precisely! It's too potent. More potent than Godwin's Law on it's own.

Hitler!

I've been accused of being a Nazi for saying that even Nazis had the right to free speech. Clearly anyone who believes that must sympathize with them...

Maybe World War I ? Unfortunately, the Germans weren't Nazis yet, so I don't think it counts.

Actually I experienced it yesterday IRL. Me and a friend met up with some of her friends at a pub and we started talking. One of them asked what we're going to vote, and from there it all went downhill. I can't keep serious when talking politics, because people react so strongly sometimes. To me everything can be joked about. He didn't agree, and after about ten minutes called me a nazi and said that i was purely evil.

Awesome.

I draw your attention to the French Resistance, and also this (http://www.cracked.com/article_18409_the-5-most-statistically-full-****-national-stereotypes.html).

What that cracked-article fails to point out was that Germany was on the other side of the trenches, and they lost a higher percentage of their adult population than France did (15,1% compared to 10,5% acording to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ww1#Aftermath)), so losses during the WWI couldn't be the main issue. The most important reason to why France fell, however, is that Germany (for the second time) decided that it would be easier to march around the Maginot line through Belgium and the Netherlands, where the border wasn't as well-defended and that the Germans used their blitzkrieg strategies while the French mostly used their not-that-bad-for-the-time tanks in the pretty inefficient role as infantry support.

What's wrong with Charlottesville....

Maybe it's just that much better than where I come from. On a second note, I find it kinda cool that there's more people from UVA here. Everyone enjoying finals?

I can't seem to find the example that cited it as coming from UVA, but look here (http://www.jargon.net/jargonfile/g/GodwinsLaw.html).

Also, I don't go to UVA. :P I'm @ VCU.
