I just noticed that they finally added some spice with the newish summoning dailies. The combination of symbiosis which boosts your powers, along with not using your monster punishing you, and the summon rampaging about if you don't control it.
But, is it worth not dishing out massive auto-damaging aoe spells or crippling status effects? Are any of the summoning spells any good?

You mean the one in a recent Dragon magazine, yes?

The succubus is very good, and one of the few ways for any class to get dominate at heroic tier. The hell hound can potentially do a lot of damage when combined with push effects (the push deals extra damage, then the enemy takes damage for entering its aura, then again from the hound's attack, then again for starting in the aura).

I'm not convinced yet as to the rest of them. Note that as of the recent errata, the Rimetongue Caller has become much better.
