Every time I go to a new page, and sometimes more often then that, my browser(IE) prompts me, asking:
Do you want to allow softwar such as ActiveX controls and plugins to run?

This doesn't really cause any harm, but is rather annoying, and I would like to know how to stop it.

Thanks in advance.

More seriously, there's likely a checkbox hidden away in the Options for IE that allows you to always allow ActiveX, etc to run unhindered. If it's not present on the alert itself (likely under a "more options" or "advanced" button), then someone more familiar with IE (which I haven't personally used since several years ago) will have to help you find the proper menus to navigate.

Can't you just tell it that you do want to allow it?

EDIT: Ah, Ninja'd.

WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS!

It's a huge security risk. Don't allow it by default.

Here is a long explanation (http://everything2.com/title/Microsoft%2527s+ActiveX+idea%252C+it+must+now+be+c onceded%252C+is+a+bad+thing.) about why ActiveX is bad, and it is much more informative than my warnings.

Active X is not something you want running on its own - it's been widely criticised for being insecure, and this is Microsoft's response.

Setting it to "always allow" is certainly not a good move.

Microsoft allows you to configure a set of different security profiles for different sites - I'd recommend you have a look at it. If you don't want to be prompted on a particular site, then listing it as a trusted site should let it run content without prompting you.

Internet Explorer isn't the best thing on the planet - if you've looked at other browsers already and settled on MSIE, that's your decision. If you haven't, then I'd suggest looking at Opera (http://www.opera.com/browser), Firefox (http://www.getfirefox.com), and Safari (http://www.apple.com/safari), all of which are solid web browsers that are generally a little bit more competent than Internet Explorer.
