Augumented animals?

The titel might be qute a bit off... But I have seen quite a few threads about people playing stuff like a Rogue Cat, Barbarian Toad etc.
And every time it is called an Augumented (pick a random animal) and I would like to hear where you find this template

There are two possibilities
Awakened (as per the spell) or Anthropomorphic (Savage Species). Augmented simply means that a creature has a template or has had it HD increased.

These are references to creatures enhanced by the 5th level druid spell, Awaken.

The key portion of the spell gives the affected animal (or tree) an Int score of at least 3, allowing it to take class levels. It also gives the Magical Beast type with the Augmented Animal subtype.
