View Full Version : Building a new computer advice

Yes, I know about the other similar threads already on here, but I have some constraints that makes the advice in those threads rather less useful.

The most major of these constraints is that I would like to buy everything and put it together today or tonight if possible, which makes ordering delivery from an online seller not an option.

So, requirements:
1) Available at a brick-and-mortar store near my home. My zip code is 30071.
2) Fairly high end. I want to be able to play new games on high settings for at least a few years to come with no problems.
3) Quiet, and not too hot.
4) Blue-ray player and a second CD/DVD drive.

I've done some searching on my own, but I'm not an expert on computer hardware and I haven't been keeping up with new stuff. Here's what I've got right now:
Case (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Antec+-+Three+Hundred+Computer+Case/9254656.p?id=1218069452235&skuId=9254656)
Extra/replacement case fans (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Rocketfish%26%23153%3B+-+120mm+Case+Fan/9462654.p?id=1218108988841&skuId=9462654) (highly variable reviews, but it's the only 120mm case fan Best Buy seems to have)
Hard drive (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Western+Digital+-+Caviar+GP+1TB+Internal+Hard+Drive/8492026.p?id=1186003685416&skuId=8492026) (apparently I'll have to buy a SATA cable separately, but that should be trivial)
Video card (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/XFX+-+ATI+Radeon+HD+5750+1GB+GDDR5+PCI+Express+Graphics +Card/9715789.p?id=1218156773765&skuId=9715789)
Blue-ray drive (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/LG+-+10x+Internal+Blu-ray+Disc+Double-Layer+DVD%26%23177%3BRW/CD-RW+Drive/9713663.p?id=1218156775128&skuId=9713663)
extra CD/DVD drive (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+-+24x+Internal+Double-Layer+DVD%26%23177%3BRW/CD-RW+Drive/9402247.p?id=1218099651274&skuId=9402247)
Power supply (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Corsair+-+850W+ATX+CPU+Power+Supply/9358287.p?id=1218090909495&skuId=9358287)

What do the more knowledgeable denizens of these boards think of these choices, and do you have any alternative recommendations? I can afford to spend significantly more than the prices for these components if I have to, but I'm not so rich that price doesn't matter.

I'm planning to keep my current keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, and operating system. Ideally I would like to copy the entire contents of my current hard drive to my new one instead of reinstalling everything.
