View Full Version : Getting rid of ACP?

Is there any mundane (i.e. no magical enchantment or property) to reduce the ACP of armor, in addition to mithril?

Specifically, if you wanted to get the ACP of a breastplate to 0, how can you do it?

Be a fighter in Pathfinder?

For heavy armor, there's also Heavy Armor Optimization and Greater Heavy Armor Optimization, which HAO gives you +1 AC and -1 ACP, and GHAO gives you +1 AC and -2 ACP, for a total of +2 and -3.

Thanks... but I note that the question is particularly in relation to a breastplate.

I should note that I'm also referring to 3.5 D&D. Thanks

I think Feycraft in the DMG II does this, but I can't remember and I don't feel like checking ATM (sorry).

Breastplate has a penalty of 4, masterwork lowers it by 1 and mithril an additional 3, so no penalty.

Levels in the Dread Commando PrC (HoB) reduces ACP.

Hellforged reduces the ACP by 1, and can cause it to be reduced below zero to -1, but reduces max dex, and gives a situational +1 AC.

Mythril is considered masterwork, so the -3 of mythril overrides the -1 of masterwork.

Or rather, the -1 of Masterwork is included in the Mithral.

Either way, it's only -3.

I seem to recall Bronze Breastplates have reduced ACP, but also reduced AC.

Close one there, the Hellforged template can't reduce the ACP beyond -1, which I don't read quite the same as you, as there is no such thing as a negative ACP anywhere else - I assume that means the lowest it can take the ACP is 1... nothing else really makes sense, unless of course, the template adds +1 to all your Armor Check skills... which no DM I play with would ever interpret. :)

And yes on the mithril including masterwork qualities, so no go there.

Dread Commando is interesting in general, but not for this character (neat class though), so that's out too.

Dang, thought there must be a way to do it non-magically.

Now, how about magically? I seem to recall a property in the MIC, Nimble Armor or something like that which would reduce ACP. Can anyone confirm that?

Well, that's the ticket then I suppose. Dang... +1 enhancement. Oh well.
