Gareth's Base Class Challenge Voting Thread - closed

Well, seeing as Gareth didn't have time to, I took the liberty of making the voting thread.

As was suggested in the contest chat thread, voting is going to be a little bit complex for this. With 15 entrants, we want to make sure that everyone gets some votes and they aren't all concentrated on one contestant, as well as making sure that people's general viewpoint of all of the entries are better expressed.

Make sure at some point in your post, you have something along the lines of:


1. Favorite Class
2. Runner-up
3. Third Place

I'm assuming we can't vote for ourselves? If that's the case, I'll vote as follows:
1. Twilight Caster. Owrtho has done such an amazing amount of work, he should be commended for it.
2. Illuminator. Realms always produces quality works, and this is no exception.
3. Torchbearer. Zom B had a good premise, and executed it well. I was impressed.

Also, this needs a time limit. I propose 1 week.

Also, once this is done I'll try to make some more mist forms to help round out the class (and also make the mentioned ethercaster that is for the most part just taking out all the shadowmagic and gaining a mist form every level).

Shouldn't it be 5 points? Two 2nd place votes = +4 and one 3rd place vote = +1, so +5 (from zero)?

Actually, I only have one vote for 2nd place, so that's what's wrong. The points are correct.

It's nice that I've got votes as seeing as though i never got PEACHed I was concerned that there may be big issues that I hadn't seen. I'll definately give it it's own thread once this is finished.

Well, we had a lot of really good pieces of work here so it wasdifficult, but here we go:

1st: Twighlight Caster: As the others have said, totally wawesome. I love ethercasting and it gives support to shadowcasting to which is nice.
2nd: Synergist: An interesting martial class that uses incarnum and some new, interesting mechanics. What's not to love?
3rd: Extinguisher: A nice, creepy class with cool class features.

1. Twilight caster by Owrthro -- Gosh. This is one of those classes I'd love to play, no questions asked.
2. Torchbearer by Zom B -- When I first read the class, I didn't really catch on to its appeal, to be honest. Then I read it again just now and I am excited to play it. Arr. Another one.
3. Illuminator by Realms of Chaos -- Yet another interesting and excellently made class from Realms. Sweetness.

There were so many cool concepts there, it was hard to decide who to put in. Twilight caster was a must for me, but the others were fairly close.

The illuminator and the torchbearer are about equal to me, so deciding where to put each was difficult.

The synergist has a pretty cool concept behind it. At first, it was hard to grasp the sketchy grammar in places, but I got over it pretty quickly when I looked through the class features. When a class is cool enough that it can overcome grammar errors, that's a success in my book. :smalltongue:

The solar adept was pretty fun to read, as well, I'll admit. The extinguisher had the discs, which are new and interesting.

I have so many more comments on everything, but overall, excellent work, everybody. I'll be using these in the future.

Well, I finally looked over the entries, and I've decided on my votes:
1. Edgewalker - I particularly liked the way its powers worked with the two pools. It seems like it would make for an interesting character to play.
2. Glowherd - I tend to prefer field control like classes, and the orbs of light remind me of will'o wisps.
3. Solar Adept - I liked the two different styles of how this class could be played. It was however the hardest choice to make. The Extinguisher and Harshlight Warrior were close behind, the harshlight was just somewhat less appealing to me, while the extinguisher had some fluff issues that didn't quite fork for me.

As for if the voting time should be extended, I'd say I could go either way. Mind I might be somewhat biased due to the current votes, so my opinion may not be the best to listen to.

Such as? I'm curious on how to improve it.

We discussed it in the chat thread. It was things like how by absorbing all the light in an area and condensing it you got a disk of shadow, as well as a few things that seemed to not quite make sense due to your changing it from just destroying light to power its moves to the class having ties to the Plane of Shadows (while still maintaining the previous part).

I think that might moreso be that it has never come to that. I believe he actually reserves his vote in case of the need for a tiebreaker (as with the Vorpal Tribble and the monster contests). However, I think that is also more as the contests creator rather than the person maintaining the voting thread (though he is both). Either way though it is up to you.

Honestly, I hope that doesn't happen. The Twilight Caster was an excellent piece of work, and well deserves the victory.

I'm glad that people are moving these to their own threads as there was some excelent work here and I'd love to include many of these as part of my own setting. My own class now has a thread here.

@Creed: Don't feel disheartened. You had a lot of serious competition. I don't think that your class was bad. Merely overly specific even for a prestige class.
