So what is your favorite use for a dagger, besides as a weapon?
A dagger is among the mos ceraitile tools that one can use.

I would say mine is as a make-shift pry bar. You can pry gems out of any worked sculpture or throne! It's a fun way to make it rich!

If adamantine, it's uses increase many-fold.

Probably, though, for making marks on walls or trees to mark one's path; or for drawing on the ground or on an etchable surface.

Masterwork tool for Diplomacy/Intimidate/Gather Information/Sense Motive/Survival/Sleight of Hand/Heal/Craft.

Also, it's easier to hide a wand by putting it inside a wand chamber in a dagger (and hiding the dagger) than it is to just hide the wand.

Are there, in fact, any skills a dagger isn't useful for?

Climb, disable device, escape artist, open lock, perform (juggling), lots of professions, search, survival (there are daggers named for it!), use rope.

Also, it allows entry into the tent camp of the enemy warlord in places where no guards are posted.

Well, I doubt a dagger is useful for truenaming. Or decipher script.

You could, however, use it to dig small holes.

Eldan, a dagger makes a very effective paperweight.

Sure it is!

For decipher script? You find a guy who can read it, and stab 'im if he doesn't help.

Truenaming?

Even easier. Stab yourself for trying such a dumb idea.

BoVD, the dagger is actually a very poor torture device compared to pretty much the entire list of tools given. It deals too much damage, so it limits how long of a session you can use to work someone over.
Stairs and a desk drawer would be more effective.

Alternatively, Stilts, depending on your size or the daggers.. and a hilt/guard.

The author of that part of BoVD exhibits little imagination. Think slicing the ham.

Also my vote goes to that guy from the police academy "I know how to do an emergency tracheotomy with a steak knife".

That sounds like a waste of butter to me. Something would probably come eat your melting butter and then you'd be out of butter. :smallfrown:

For me, a dagger makes an interesting alternative for a lock pick, especially if it's a stiletto and even more so if an adamantine stiletto.

With a knife you have the following tools:

Stabbing tool
Cutting tool
Sawing tool (if serrated)
Chopping tool
Prying tool
Tooth pick
Hammer (back end)
digging tool
Lever
Fulcrum (not at the same time as the lever obviously)
Ice pick
Ice climbing tool
Can opener
Bottle opener
Fork
Kabob skewer
Self grooming kit (includes the following: Finger nail clippers, Finger nail cleaner, Beard trimmer, Razor, Hair cutter, beard trimmer)

That's a fairly exhaustive list, though given enough time I'm sure I can come up with a few more to add.

Bit of rope, make shift polearm.

Bored? Stab the fighter and pound the dagger into the ground so its firmly wedged in. Wait for carnivore to wander by. Carnivore licks dagger and bleeds to death from shredded tongue. Send fighter to get carcass. Cast fireball when he picks it up. Enjoy your steaks.

A harassment tool.
My current character is using one that once belonged to the party's wizard. The DM rolled a nat 1 for the NPC wizard and his dagger hit my character in the back but luckily it just bounced off the armor. I repeatably remind the wizard of his flub and wave the dagger in the wizard's face.

Dwarves don't use daggers.

They dismember with axes, hammers, crossbows, and mining picks

And lava. Sweet, sweet lava. To quote a famous dwarf expression:

Lava solves everything. Fire just ruins the booze.

If it's a spell storing dagger, it becomes even more useful. Put a cure spell in it and stab your wounded friend. Sure it's a common trick now, but still fun and effective.

Just remind your friend that he or she will feel worse before he or she feels better. I suppose you could just touch him or her with the flat of the blade or slice a finger, but if you forget, your friend should understand.
