One of my players is planning on getting Chain Spell for his Sorcerer. He intends to use with his Scorching Ray spell (for which he has Arcane Thesis).
However, Chain Spell needs a spell that 'specifies a single target'. Scorching Ray has no Target line, just an Effect line.
Can Chain Spell be applied to Scorching Ray?
Thanks.

No, it cannot. Even if rays in general were valid for Chain Spell (which is debatable but I think leans towards "no"), Scorching Ray is not due to the fact that it can be used against multiple targets simultaneously by default.

My investigation into this issue about a year ago:

Chain-a-Ray (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112408)

Chain-a-Ray Volume 2: Electric Bugaboo (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112907)

General consensus seemed to be "RAW: No" "Would DMs allow it? Yes"

YMMV

Oh, thanks a lot.
I don't think I will allow it in this case since the character can already deal major damage to multiple opponents with Wings of Flurry anyway, allowing him to avoid the Reflex save would make his character outshine the others, I believe.
