Why does her head take up roughly half her height?

I only see a height score of "7", with no reference to actual height (or weight).

And her weight is 1. Pound, that is.

She's a baby. A very light baby...

And can do fractions, oddly enough.

Because she's zero. Babies are like that.

And that is one attractive baby. 250 BA?!

And her earliest memory is four years into the future.
She's the Kwisatz Haderach! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kwisatz_Haderach) :smalleek:

OK, technically that's a Male Only class, but c'mon!

She's a baby. A very light baby...

Um... if she's 7 inches tall and has a head circumference of 12.5875...

Either she has an extreme version of the Stewie Griffin Head syndrom, or she's non-euclidian, because her head is taller than her overall height... :smalleek:

Ethical and Immoral? Does that count as an oxymoron?

Apparently in an attempt to be "different" and "original" the creators changed the Law/Chaos and Good/Evil axis with Ethical/non-Ethical and Moral/Immoral. They don't seem to have any idea what Ethical and Moral actually mean and go way out of their way to twist the meanings to fit law/chaos and good/evil.

(I got this info from the RPGnet review, not quite insane enought to have actually read enough of the rules to get to the alignment section.)

You're allergic to yourself? :smallconfused:

EDIT: An allergy to "mammaries" would be much more amusing.

As would "manatees" but that's just because they're inherently funny

Yeah, LE is not Ethical. At all. But I suppose that's minor compared to the other problems.

So I just rolled someone with around -1.7 billion siblings. I'm not sure how to take that.
That's almost certainly a number-wrapping bug in the code, not an issue with FATAL's rules.

Though it might imply that you rolled several billion siblings and it wrapped... That would imply that you had 2,147,483,647 + (2,147,483,648 - 1,717,986,920) = 2,576,980,375 siblings (assuming they used long variables), though, so more likely it's a glitch that came up with the number.

But birds and bras actually exist! That would mean the game had any foundation in reality whatsoever, which clearly goes against its design principles!

And that is one attractive baby. 250 BA?!

This is because of FATAL's use of BMI for attractiveness (for females). I think it's something like +10 BA for every 0.1 under... 16, maybe? 18? Regardless, babies have huge reductions in weight, and much smaller reductions in height, leading to very low BMIs.

Anyone who knows even the basics of any kind of programming language and how to use a randomizer-function should be able to create a D&D random character generator without much of a problem.

Thing is, what for? The character generated would most likely be useless, as you randomly assign stat scores and then randomly choose a class that most likely won't fit those scores at all.

So I used the character generator I rolled Subterrenian troll and opened the PDF to check out the race. Basically the males are fat hairy pigs and the females are large hot green women that sleep around with large men from more attractive races. Wow, the mental images this gives me are hilarious so I had to roll up a female despite the outrageous negatives though the troll bonuses still make a typical female troll much larger and stronger than a male human. I ended up with stats that seem (I have very little context) high overall except for a low dexterity with an abysmal agility. I ended up with a mental illness that makes me a rapist which is kinda funny with the whole being a giant hot green woman attracted to human/humanlike men.

So I opened the book to roll for proffession subterranean trolls only seem to be able to take twenty or so classes and a good portion of them sound like they’ll be decent. I rolled pick-pocket first, trolls can’t be pick-pockets, rolled again got assassin which my poor hand-eye-coordination disqualified me from too bad a giant green assassin that takes sexual advantage of her targets would have been hilarious. Oops rolled assassin a second time man if somebody across the table from me rolled a soap maker they’d be hating me now. OK, this is getting silly I just rolled pickpocket again.

So, I just looked over the Assassin class wow it gains AP =Victims LP(human averages about 20) times sp their paid so you could easily level quick and level 2 assassin gives you an ability where you instantly kill on an unmodified attack roll of 30 and it goes down a bit every assassin level regardless of your normal damage or your victims life points.

Anyway time for a fifth roll for occupation of course a better system would have a subterranean troll table since I’m estimating I can take 1/10nth of the classes on the serf table.

323 healer pretty sure that’s off limits. . . No trolls can take it but, I can’t despite a high intelligence I have a below average analytical intelligence baring me from healer, it sucks anyway 1 AP per patient and only 1 skill.

Judging by the list in the sub-troll section I should have close to a 50% chance of getting something that could make an adventurer.

953 Whore, huh you know that’d be ok if it wasn’t for the mental illness I rolled.

So my two crap stats effect a lot of my skills (as well as every combat skill) if you look at my skills those are all things with a racial or occupational bonus I put all my free points into wrestling (it uses the average of strengh and agility I still have a large negative but it’s much smaller) so I can have a small chance of doing something in a fight.

Another thing I noticed a lot of occupations say it’s rare for a race or gender to be in them but, I didn’t find any mention of being able to reroll in those cases since you have the same chance as anyone else of rolling them.

Anyway assuming I can find sufficient work even with some minor negatives from a low kinetic charisma she can level in under a week.

So somebody was talking about a pbp? I can't stop rolling up characters with this random generator!

Jarawara

OK, I see kinda an odd pattern here...

From Yuki Akuma's character:

"Perceived as a waster of money, generous"
"Social class: Slave"

From SaintRidley's character:

"Perceived as financially stable"
"Social class: Slave"

From Volthawks's character:

"Perceived as prone to financial losses, difficult to conserve wealth
Social class: Slave"

:smallconfused:

OK, so the three of you come to your supervisor's office to discuss your weekly paychecks. Volthawk says: "Sir, do you suppose I could get a raise, I'm a little shorthanded this month." SaintRidley says to Volthawk: "If you need a loan, I've got money to spare and could get it to you at a low interest rate." Yuki Akuma interrupts and says: "Hey boss, why don't you just give my paycheck to Volthawk. He needs it more than me. I'll get by just fine without it."

The supervisor rises with a bufuddled look on his face, then gets angry, grabs his whip, and shouts out: "GET BACK TO WORK, SLAVES, BEFORE I FLAY THE HIDE OFF YOUR BACKS!!!"

Three cheers for FATAL, the most realistic RPG evah!

*~*~*

Honorable mention goes to Tonberrian's character:

"Perceived as having a low mental capacity
Social class: Serf"

He wasn't smart enough to get in on this lucrative 'slave' gig.

So I checked the FATAL pdf, average Dark Elf height is aprox 4'. He's... 8 inches tall, and weighs 2 pounds. His nipples must form some sort of supernipple, seeing as how he's roughly a short stick. A young adult age Zero'd stick. His earliest memory is in the future. The reason that most characters wind up slaves is because slaves are about 60 % IIRC, 22 % are serfs (which is FATAL's HISTORICALLY AND MYTHOLOGICALLY's equivalent of a middle class). Only 8% are nobility, and from that there are only 1 % royalty. The process of rolling these percentages is very convoluted though, so better be a slave than try to figure it out and make sense of it (LOL common FATAL sense).

Hall is an idiot, basically. In his mind, Slaves are at the bottom, then Peasants (what anyone else would call serfs, but, again, he's an idiot), then Serfs (which anyone else would call the middle class; i.e. artisans, merchants, yeomen), then the Nobility and finally the Royalty.

Did I mention Byron Hall is an idiot?

Hand_of_Vecna
2010-05-28, 05:33 PM
I rolled up another character today a male cliff ogre named "Bystandard Forcer" seriously that's what the generater named him. Crazily strong low charisma and agility (I believe that's normal for an ogre) but his rhetoric is really high despite a significant racial penalty. I was pretty excited about him until I rolled begger for an occupation so I just have my racial skills, haggle and 2 skill points which I put into haggle and intimidate. I think he can get by pretty well on those two skills plus wrestling he has big bonuses in intimidate and wrestling from his huge strengh score and size. I picture him as giant version of badger from firefly including a bowler hat and working to create a underworld organization from the ground up.

I also noticed that begger gives 1 AP per 100 sp recieved, ok what's with the crazy exchange rate anyway it says recieved and not "recieved from begging" so maybe anykind of income counts. Considering that it's F.A.T.A.L I'm pretty sure favorable RAW interpretations are kosher.

Well, its not my favorite age to be lived, but IMO there's quite a bunch that can be learned from it. I've heard that 'dark age' is misnomer that slapped on it (or period after medieval, not sure here) to contrast the 'light' of the renaissance. Anyway, Serf indeed are not free. And there's no slave in the medieval, as far as I know.

But, but, the middle ages were a thousand year era of very differing characteristics of of which only the first part can be termed "the dark ages" with revolutionary changes that shaped modern European society towards the end.

That however just makes FATAL's confusion of the ancient world slavery and a high- and late middle age serfdom even worse. Not to mention towns ruled by the middle class where where people went to stop being serfs.

It might not have improved it's realism but the game would also at least have been less harmful to ones sanity if the creators had used a book on medieval cooking instead of prostitution as it's sole historical reference.

Looking through this thread, I see a pretty obvious solution to at least one glaring problem in the game that would likely appeal to Mr. Hall's apparent desire for both realism and overcomplication.

What if instead of being forced to gain XP according to your class, you instead gained separate XP totals for each class that you meet the prerequisites to join. In short, a clerk could become a bandit (the class) by actually acting like a bandit and earning XP that way. Similarly, a mage who idiotically starts cutting people's hair for too long would become a barber.

Instead of making the XP system extremely stingy, you'd get XP for practically every big action you take but it would still take awhile before the XP you gain towards any single class is enough to level. It even seems a bit realistic as a clerk typically doesn't become a bandit by continuing his work as a clerk for 83 years.

This does nothing to remedy the other numerous problems but would make it possible for almost any group in existance to actually PLAY the game and level up in time, facing off against the challenges put forth against them rather than the difficulties put forth by a few unlucky rolls at the start of the game. It might require a few rule rewrites (such as magical scrolls the literate could use to gain XP as a mage) but it might make the game a bit more bearable.

I appreciate the utter brokenness of the XP system. It helps keep the foolhardy from attempting to play the game, which would inevitably lead to a string of failed SAN checks, sane class progression or no.

Seriously, the character rolling and new game needs its own thread, instead of just hijacking Dust's.

I don't think making another thread about FATAL is a good idea.

Dust can still post his campaign log in here and we'll all enjoy it, you know...

huh. I thought they only had played 2 sessions with another character-gen session before that and we'd already heard all he wanted/found interesting of those two sessions. Or at least we got the highlights of what happened in the first one.

Or was that story just how they all ended up together before the game began?

You forgot sanity.

Sanity is not required. Maybe for writing up the posts for here, but not for playing the game.

You funny man, there is no sanity here.

But on a more serious note, this system makes you roll 6d10 to see if your a freak of nature? That seems somewhat realistic, or something pretending to be realistic.
Yet on the other hand we have all these outrageous statistic for all sorts of things with the characters.
does not compute?

Yes, because it's just broken. That's like saying a broken string will cause a logic fault in a computer rather than a reading error.

Did you just try to homebrew a fix for FATAL?

If you fixed all the flaws in FATAL, then you wouldn't be playing the same game. At all. The copious, egregious, odious errors are the game's defining trait. It's like D&D without combat, M&M without superheroes, CoC without horror, or WoD without angst.

I remember at least someone describing a pretty pulpy, up-beat WoD campaign on these forums, actually.

But yeah, there wouldn't be much left. And have fun redoing the statistics.

Hey, I just found a fixed version of FATAL.

It's called Burning Wheel (http://www.burningwheel.org/) :smalltongue:

I never got this "WoD=wangst" angle. Even in case of Vampire: The Masquerade, a transformation from a weak, squishy human into an immortal predator with supernatural powers is a step up in my books. Other systems are even better in this regard.

It's the morality system.

The Humanity System means spending every waking moment fighting against your inner Beast while watching your morality trickle down the tubes every time you feed. Whenever you successfully pass a Humanity Check, you are literally angsting about your life; when you fail you just say "screw it, I'm evil."

Werewolf & Mage had much less of this. Wraith had much, much more :smalltongue:

Yeah, I know where it comes from. I was joking because even with this sort of thing being the hunter instead of the hunted has its perks.

Actually I had a friend who applied xp rules like that in 2ED&D back when the big four all had ways to get extra xp. I actually used it in a 0-level 3rd ed game. I based it on type rather than class so fighter means fighter, barbarian, ranger etc.

Monster killing and Story Awards: Apply to any class the player wants.

Fighter: Gains normal xp for any monsters they kill themselves (required some judgement calls on what constituted killing it themselves when casters are involved) in addition to their share xp from the fight as a whole.

Casters: Got xp for casting (we eventualy had to put some additional limitations on this. Wizards got xp for learning spells.

Rouges: got xp for sneaking and based on value of things stolen.

There was more than this but it was kinda involved and got heavily reworked over time as abuses were found but, it was heavily enjoyed by all involved. The game was also a limited gestalt where you advanced seperately in differant classes based on the xp you earned and treated multiclassing like gestalt.

WMG theory: The Exalted Games of Divinity are actually a game of FATAL, and all the Incarnae had the bad luck of rolling Clerks as their class.
