Since Mystra banned 10th+ level spells (but not 10th+ level slots). Does this mean that if any scrolls of 10th+ level spells were created before the ban and survive to the present, would they still function?

I could see it working since they were "cast" before the ban.

Just curious.

The spell was prepared before the ban, not cast before it. If it had been cast, the scroll would just be a mundane roll of parchment again. Remember, spells of 10th LVL and above simply cannot function anymore, and written rules loopholes aside, in-game, Mystra simply wouldn't allow it. Now Epic spells, on the other hand...

But aren't Epic spells treated, for all purposes that require a spell level, as 10th level spells?

yes, yes they are...
but as written, epic spells are more powerful then all the gods combined...

Which is a big problem... lets say you DO find a working loophole, what do you think the GOD who created said ban would do to you? if you manage to cast a 10th level spell it better be one that kills mystra and makes you the next god of magic.

No, that one's 12th level. It's also the reason the ban exists.

I meant that shouldn't they also be covered by the ban?

No. The ban doesn't work that way. See, back in the day, there was both Epic magic and normal magic that advanced past level 9 spells. The latter was problematic, since it gave rise to spells like Karsus' Avatar, which directly killed Mystral (the first god of magic). When Mystra was born, she banned the latter, not the former, which already had limitations on it.
