Question about Uncanny Trickster

At each level after 1st, you gain class features (including spellcasting ability) and an increase in effective level as if you had also gained a level in a class to which you belonged before adding the prestige class level. You do not, however, gain the benefit of your previous class’s Hit Dice, attack progression, skill points, or saving throws. If you had more than one class before becoming an uncanny trickster, you must decide to which class to add each level for the purpose of determining class features.

So say a character takes 8 levels of Rogue, then 3 levels of UT....what happens if they go back to rogue? Do they just get their HP, skill points, BAB, and saves for 2 levels (10 & 11) and then start getting the abilities again when they reach character level 12?

Breakdown:
Levels 1-8: 8 levels of rogue: through a rogue's 8th level abilities
Levels 9-11: 3 levels of Uncanny Trickster: through a rogue's 10th level abilities
Level 12: ???? Rogue level 9 BAB/Saves/Skills/HP only?

At Rogue 8/ UT 3 you would have the HD, skills, BAB, and base saves as a multiclass Rogue 8/ UT 3. Adding more Rogue levels will pick up everything where it left off, i.e. you'll start with the 9th level Rogue HD, skills, BAB, and base save bonuses, but you'll get all the other class features as though you were 11th level in the class.

The 'and an increase in effective level' clarifies that your rogue level is counted as two higher for determining which class features you gain.

So for all purposes it's as if you had gained two levels of rogue without gaining the HD, Saves and BAB.

I don't think you quite understand how it works. :smallbiggrin:

Uncanny trickster is a 3 level long Prestige Class which increases everything except HD, BAB, saves, and skill points of a previous class by 2 over three levels. This means that a rogue 8/Uncanny Trickster3 has all the class features of a level 10 rogue.
